The bent logic, and I am not saying I agree.... two points below.
- No personnel handguns means less handguns to be stolen and fall into the hands of the bad guys.
- No personnel handguns means they cannot be used in domestic disputes, accidental shootings and mass/school shooting incidents.
On the first one the bigger problem is the border IMO, not guns stolen in Canada, the legislation does nothing to prevent this. Not sure on our full stats here but in the US the stats do show that robbery and street crimes are a high percentage committed (very high) with illegal guns (not legally owned/obtained), I am sure that is the same here. Nothing shocking here, I think most people know this.
Domestic disputes, accidental, school and general mass shootings are a high percentage legally owned/obtained in the US (by perp or family). While NS skews us on mass (they were illegal) I would not be surprised if we do not trend somewhat like the US with the exceptions it is already much harder to get them here and we have actual storage laws and a different culture for the most part.
So less of these events (thankfully) and a shift in illegal (gang) vs legal messed up kid for schools.
US street crimes and mass shootings touched on here by FoxNews, as a reference:
On average, just under 40,000 people each year die across the country in a gun-related death. So where do criminals typically buy their guns? And do most criminals seek out their weapons of choice through means, not above board?

BTW, I never saw it in the local news to link it but my kid's Toronto high school was locked down a few months back as one of the messed up kids said he was coming to shoot the place up on social media on the weekend. He was arrested at home Monday morning beforehand, he had accessed the family guns at the time but no handguns AFAIK. No shooting, white kid, not news I guess.
Most of the kids knew about it beforehand and stayed home, ours did and we told any parent we knew and theirs did. Teachers showed up, apparently no one bothered to tell them....
