How much does that gun cost in Canada? It retails for $1000USD south of the border, just wondering if there is a premium here.

Cheap aluminum cased ammo vs brass.For those that know more than I, what's going on with the silver cases? Nothing improves firearm accuracy more than randomly switching types of rounds in a stack.

Less than that surprisingly. It just got discontinued so I got a decent deal. The upgraded model has a few changes that didn’t matter much to me.
At the bottom of Dixie Rd at Lakeshore in LongBranch was a munitions and armoury owned by CIL , made all kinds of shells in WW2 and made Sten guns . After the war they made shotguns ect for the home and farm market. To protect CDN business there were pretty stiff tariffs on US guns coming into Canada , rebuilding industry ect . So US manuf leased space and made guns here . H&R made a topper 12g with made in LongBranch Ontario stamped in the reciever so they were quite obvious from the HR made in Maine .
I lived briefly in Long Branch so had to have one , and just found one on gun post for sale , it will be my new office decoration .

Thanks. Didnt know aluminum cases were a thing. Seems like a bad idea.
Its usually always cheaper than the brass and many people don’t have issues with it. I won’t use it in any of my firearms though. You can’t reload it safely either.
I forgot to say that whatever it costs my wife thinks it’s a lot less.

You can also find steel cased ammunition.
As mentioned, cases made from metals other than brass means lower cost.
I've seen steel but the colour looked wrong. I didnt know about aluminum.
I still maintain the guy would have had trouble hitting a barn with every shot being different. At least load the brass rounds and then the aluminum ones.

I agree but presumably, if you are carrying a loaded firearm you would like to be able to hit something. If you just want it to make scary noises, you can probably come up with something else that is legally less problematic (assuming you aren't using it in the commission of crimes). We are all lucky that so many bad guys are so dumb.

At handgun distances I doubt there's any measurable/meaningful difference.
What we don't know from that picture is the bullet weight(s), which in my experience will have an effect on differentials in performance.
9mm pills are commonly 115gr, 124/25gr and 147gr.
At least the ammo pictured is all the same caliber.

Do they still do short/tall brass? I haven't reloaded for decades. Can you reload the tin shells?
It’s almost all short brass , and you can reload the plastic hulls about 5 times before they just don’t crimp . There are some specialty loads with high brass but that’s just looks really .
There is only one paper mill left in North America making the paper for shell casings and one ammo manufacturer keeping that paper line open. The Olympic and national class guys swear by paper hulls . I could not tell you why. I takes about 4 days to make paper shells and about 20 minutes to make plastic hulls so you can guess the cost differential. Trying to reform paper shells and using a curling iron to get the resin paper to lay flat , not much fun

Friend of mine has a 1942 Mosin (and a few other arms now). Had the chance to shoot it on Crown Land last summer - was quite intimidated by it, but we went out again a few weeks back, and I had an absolute blast (pun not intended), despite knee high snow and -25 all day long. Something so cool about trying out the rifle that my great grandparents fought with - really visceral experience with the bolt action and recoil and everything.
Bit the bullet and signed up for my CFSC, which is at the end of June. I hear wait times are insane for getting your PAL, so I am not expecting to get my license until 2023 or end of 2022, but nevertheless I am now constantly researching these things and looking for a decent example that isn't too pitted so I can do some meaningful target shooting with it.
Seems there aren't really any ranges in the GTA anymore, right? I feel like I'll just end up going out with friends when they are driving up north to Crown Land. Would be cool to have a local option, but alas. Hunting is something I want to try sometime too - though reading about field dressing made me realize I have a long way to go until I have either the experience or stomach to do it, and do it safely.

GTA has tons. Toronto proper I think may be at zero.
Now, any of the gta ones i know have waiting lists and entrance rules.
