Want to start shooting, anyone care to get me started?

Good choice for a Non R rifle. It takes 5.56 which you can buy in bulk fairly cheap. You can also run .223 in it which is more avalable at places like Canadian tire etc.

They also take the 10 rnd LAR mags.

There are two up at Elwood Epps right now.

How much is the ammo cost? I'm not even sure what type of .223 it needs as there are so many options. I used the .223 in the rifle for sure as they looked small compared to the glock ammo.

Is this the correct one?

Roughly 50 Cents per round, pricy.

if it was smaller than glock ammo that would probably be a .22

Looked a lot like the .22.

.22's are pretty cheap o.O Under $100 for 2000+ rounds =O.

You can get .223 Rem for less.. Under 30c a pop https://www.canadaammo.com/product/detail/379/norinco-223-rem-5-56-ammo-crate-of-1600/ or 40c a pop for non-Chinese stuff https://www.canadaammo.com/product/detail/557/federal-tactical-223-55gr-fmj/ Centrefire rifle ammo isn't cheap.

You can always shoot corrosive 7.62x39, which can be had for $200 for a crate of 1300rds with a different firearm.. An SKS is a cheap starter at $200
300px-SKS_-_Ryssland_-_AM.045810.jpg

Or you can go for a bit of quality with a CZ 858 at about $700ish

Both are non-restricted. The only issue is that cleaning after shooting corrosive surplus ammo is a bit of a hassle.

If you wanna look tactical and shoot on the cheap, you can always tacticool a .22 like getting an Archangel Marauder stock for a 10/22

$25ish for a brick of 500 rds can't be beat for cheap fun ;)

This is a good option. Same price as a handgun, is non restricted. and is 9mm bullets so cheaper then .223
rounds.

You should start out with a rimfire as they are the cheapest to shoot. They will help you to get a handle on proper holding, breathing and sighting techniques. If you like the tacticle look you could get a mossberg tacticle .22LR. They are non restricted and go for approx $225.00. That will include the 10 round mag as well as the 25 round one. There are many other choices depending on your price range and style.

You can get 5250 rounds of .22LR for $189.00

500 rounds of 9mm FMJ is around $100.00

Thanks, looks like i'll probably start with .22LR rounds since they seem the cheapest to get started.

I guess this is what they call "plinking"?

What's the total outlay for this? License, range fees, gun safe, trigger lock and ammo? Did I miss anything? I used to shoot years ago in the UK, mainly .22 rifles but some .303 lee enfield too. Contrary to what people think from my comments in the other thread I actually enjoy it. I've been clay shooting a bunch of times here and to a range for a few hours. I should get around to getting licensed.

I tried shooting years ago, have an RAF marksmans qualification somewhere actually. Been shooting clays here off and on for the past few years and run a group trip out to a range for 12 people for instruction and a bit of experience trying different weapons. My ONLY beef with guns is the concealed carry thing and really only in Canada.

So...how much am I looking at spending?

There is no license that enables you to carry a gun. Regardless if its restricted or not.

Well the course + license your looking at about $200+, + cost of guns and ammo, and club membership fee (anywhere from 200-800 from what i've been reading).

What do you guys think about the Mauser C96 w/ Stock? Was thinking about getting one once I got my RPAL.

i have an M48. Yugo built Mauser K98 in 8x57. the C96 was the older version, no experience with them

8mm mauser ammo is up there in cost, Surplus stuff comes around but even then its close to buck a round.

I reload 8mm for my rifle, only way i can shoot it economically. 223 i reload not for the price but for the increased accuracy of a load that was tailored to what the gun likes.

Cost, $115 for course, $60 for application and three months later you have a licence. At that point you can go nuts and build a gun room. Most people get a CT gun safe for about $200 and call it a day.

I thought it was a 7.63×25mm or 9mm Parabellum? If ammo cost is up there, I might give up on it.

Depends on what you want. license and courses involved in getting licenses will be approx 400.00. Will be cheaper if your just getting a PAL instead of an RPAL. Trigger locks are only required for restricted firearms. Range fees will depend on the range/membership. Safe is only required for restricted. You can get a cheap stackon from canadian tire for 150.00 on sale. There is also protective equipment such as, safety eye wear and hearing protection.

Nothing beats getting a Mosin-Nagant and watching "Behind Enemy Lines". They can be had for $140 when they go on sale. The only problem is its a 7.62, lol.

The 7.62 isn't so much of a problem.. The combination of the "x54" part and bolt action will leave some bruises on the shoulder; fun to shoot though and pretty accurate

$200ish for the course if you do both restricted and non restricted (AR is restricted and a great range rifle). $60 for non-restricted application or $80 for restricted+non restricted. A cabinet can be had for $100 when it REALLY goes on sale. That's where all your restricteds have to be trigger-locked. A decent safe can be had for $350ish and restricteds don't have to be trigger locked in it. Most outdoor ranges are in the $200 ballpark and you need a membership to purchase any restricteds - stupid CFO regs as we have ranges that will let you come and shoot for a fee without getting a membership. Invest $70-100 in a good set of electronic muffs so you can hear range commands better. I double up with Surefire EP4 plugs - cost the same as 100 pairs of foamies, get the same amount of use outta them, they block the BANG better and I can also hear normal speech better with'em in.

Please note that you don't need a safe to keep your restricteds. You can keep them in a locking cabinet but then they have to be trigger-locked and the ammo has to be in a different container. The safe allows me to keep restricteds without a trigger lock and ammo in the same container.

i just googled the C96, thats a pistol, and a rare on at that....they called it the broomhandle due to the gun handle look.

Thats a collectors gun and rare in good shape...chances are, you wouldnt want to shoot it if you had it.
