Tmp thurs may 2

You'll note I mentioned that I pulled those time numbers from my posterior regions, specifically as an arguable point.
Each track organizer would have to look at each rider on an individual basis -- again, this takes extra people and therefore money. Any group time numbers would also be on a sliding scale. If there are a whack of people in green, and some are obviously being held up; and there's room IF there's room in yellow, move them up . If Red is sparsely populated, maybe move some of the better yellows up.

This would really take a lot of manpower/logistics from any track organizer. As mentioned earlier, the marshals at TMP May 2 really seemed more interested in their tan than anything else. I popped a rather excessive wheelie coming to the station at turn 6(?) by due to a bit of ham fisted throttle manipulation exiting turn 5 - the marshal didn't even turn their head my way. Using the way TMP ran the day, this idea of times/groups would never work.

I'm a slower yellow rider or upper green. I was thinking about a bump until I counted the numbers. 19 in Yellow? I'll gladly stay in a 9 rider green group.

Agree with all above about marshals.

Like i said If I'd known they weren't enforcing passing rules I would have gone down for some good battles with you and Corsara. ;)

^ Not just a noob perspective ...

For someone with a smaller bike, if there is a "pass only on straightaways" rule, you will ALWAYS end up stuck behind a questionably ridden liter bike.

I know that some track day organizers say "Just pull into the pits and go back out" - Doesn't work on a busier day; you'll just get stuck behind *another* questionably ridden liter bike. Or maybe even the same one.

The only way I can overtake said questionably ridden liter bike with my 400, is to out-brake it and pretty much stuff the other rider on the entrance to a corner. That's against the rules on most track days but many times is the only way that a smaller bike can overtake a bigger one.

I seldom do track days any more. The quality of riding at a racing event is better - and I'm not up against bikes that are substantially different in performance - and any overtaking move that can be done safely is fair game ...

I don't think lap times are the main indicators of which group a person should be. I strongly believe each one of us knows in which group we belong to, but a lot of people ignore themselves due to ego

Here's a video I took, I was in green on a zx6rr with the bondo fuel tank haha.

It was an amazing day for first trackday of the season but was very disappointed with the "marshals". The one marshal on the last marshal post, at one point, had his hands together with his head down as if he was on a phone. During the entire day, I only had one situation where someone passed me between turn 9 & 10 that I was not expecting. I was pointed and going for the entry pylon for turn 10 when I got spooked by the other rider passing me on my right side. The rider could have waited 12 seconds and would have had a long straight to get ahead of me. Otherwise, it was a blast!!

It's great following faster riders, you learn a lot about your bike and what it"s capable of by braking deeper and accelerating sooner out of the corner. I already went faster than at the end of last season! :p

Yeeeah, I'm on video! Passed you at 1:20, love the video how I saw myself coming from behind on your rear camera, then showing up in front :) Oh wait, but it's you!!! I pit right next to you, gave you my email :) Didn't know you were on my tail almost the whole time, hehehe :) The guy who pit next to you on the 900 was right in front of me, I was never able to pass that guy. Do you have videos of the later sessions, or this was one of the later ones? Also, towards the beginning of the video, notice that guy totally crossed up with the bike.... There's at least one good lap on this video, so me happy :)

EDIT: before all the haters speak up, obviously the last lap on the video we were just cruising

Well you all laugh at the laptimers, but mine does a great job showing me I'm not moving as fast as I think I am, thus keeping me in the right group, which should be of benefit to everyone.

Great day. I didn't beat my PB today. It was a bit slippery for my SV when I got down to 1:23's so I didn't want to push it. I got to go out in green as a control rider to help some friends of mine, that was really fun actually. No pressure to be on it the whole time. LOL dirty Took out my friend's GSXR750 for one red session, awesome bike. Holy crap it eats the straights fast! For the other red guys, that was me on it with the orange vest to warn you I wasn't bookin' it all that hard. Exited after maybe 6 laps when I started sliding the front around (Q2's on). Good times!

You and your mates 750 are on there somewhere. And a bit of off roading by me.

This video is great, you're very fast and obviously feel comfortable on the track. Out of curiosity---I notice you're in 3rd gear on the infield, is this a 600 or a 1000?

I on the other hand feel very unfortunate, found a small tear on one of the fork seals (http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum/showthread.php?170882-Nicked-fork-seal), looks like I can't postpone suspension work anymore and will send them off to Sharrard to do the basic package (smooth, revalve, springs for my bodyweight), and also change the seals. Don't know the turn around time, but looks like I'll miss the rest of the month. At least my bottoming out problem will disappear, although I don't understand how it will work with better front but stock rear. Can't afford both now :(

I've never felt slow in red at TMP, and Fiery and Brian nailed it. I'll gladly let big bikes past on the straights and catch them by the hairpin. Thursday I made a few passes and was only passed once except when I was taking it easy on my friends gixxer. So it was perfect.

Fiery, just curious, what happened at the 9:25 mark?
Too wide?

I think I turned in late and the front pushed on me (around 9.21 the bike appears to wobble) which in turn meant I couldn't complete the turn. So I stood it up, gave myself a mental kick and carried on.

600.

So, if you're not trying to improve your lines and technique, what the hell are you gonna do at a trackday?! You said it---it's not a race, so what is it? Since it's not a school, the only way to get feedback for how you're doing is by analyzing your data (lap times, split times, tire wear). Otherwise it's just making circles. I can do that around the block as well, lol.. Go, do a trackday, then I'll be here waiting to see your posts about your new laptimer, I promise you.

As for the faster people here on the forum---I'm sure, no, I KNOW there are many many many of them! It's not hard to look around at the track and differentiate between the fast and the slow. The fast ones don't need to talk for days on end, because they know what they're doing. Those who don't---they ask. That's what I do.

See you at the track.

I respectfully disagree with this.

The fast ones don't need to talk about it for days on end, they need to think about it all the time. I don't think about it for days, I think about it for weeks and months. The fast ones aren't chasing 2-3 seconds, they're chasing 2-3 tenths but I'm sure they obsess about it more than you, they just don't talk about it here. There used to be a good group of really fast guys on this site that could offer some really good info but for the most part they're gone. I find that for the most part the people on GTAM that are discussing tuning the most aren't qualified to do so, the blind leading the blind. Sure, GPS is great, it will tell you how consistent your lines are but it won't tell you if your lines are consistently wrong. Do you have a plan to get your 2-3 seconds? Where are you slow? What are your weak points? What are your strong points? Where can you improve your lines? I don't think you'll find the answers to any of these questions on GTAM, nor do I think you'll really get much useful feedback from other Yellow riders.

If you want good feedback, you should be asking people at the track. Fast people at the track.

IMO there isn't much need to fiddle that much with the bike until you start running sub 1:18s or so at TMP (unless perhaps you're riding an SV with 12hp.... but I digress). A basic suspension setup from a qualified tuner and decent tires with decent pressures should be sufficient to get you to that 1:18ish mark. The biggest hurdles you'll face getting there aren't going to be chasing the perfect suspension settings or chassis geometry, they will be between your ears.

That's your scraper, not your seal, so you can worry a lot less!! ;)

For fear of ridicule I'll not comment on forks vs. shock and what each does to the feel of the bike.

Hey now, easy... Haha
I've taken care of the 12hp problem. See you at GBM on the 12th ;)
