Tmp thurs may 2

That's your scraper, not your seal, so you can worry a lot less!! ;)

For fear of ridicule I'll not comment on forks vs. shock and what each does to the feel of the bike.

-Jamie M.

Yeah, there's no sense of freedom of speech on the internet these days...

John will be getting my forks sometime next week. Anyone not afraid to share their opinion about the effects of having good front suspension and crappy OEM rear shock?

EDIT: actually, still having second thoughts if that's the right thing to do right now. Or add more preload and just ride it... fork work will set me back both on funds and time---will miss bunch of trackday opportunities. :-|

Nonsense...

So when are you finally gonna come to the track and start having some fun?

the paradoxal "don't go wide, omg, i'm going wide because i can see it and think it!"

Not really. The front slipped and I simply didn't have enough real estate to do the turn. I don't give up on corners anymore and didn't surrender this one until the last second. My error was turning in late and too agressively, I think. And I should have pitted in straight after and reset. That was another error.

All in all though, it was a great day at TMP. And I'm gonna try to get back more than once again this season.

Hoping to get out there this month, within the next couple of weeks.
Aiming for the 23rd with Rider's Choice @ Shannonville, are you going to be there?

If the shock is worn out, in need of rebuild, or in need of being thrown in a dumpster, your efforts to improve your riding are kinda pointless. As your pace increases you'll discover problems that you can't tune around. Then what? Ride around it? Keep throwing tires at it?

I know you're new to the track and eager to get in some seat time but if you're bike is not working properly that will slow down your riding improvement.

I'll go to Shannonville this summer at least once, but on the 23rd I'll be most probably at TMP, it's close to home and I like the 1pm-9pm day. Enjoy your day there!

Ehhh.. thanks, this makes sense. It's always a trade-off between seat time and upgrades when there is no unlimited funds.

A little late to this but I totally agree that many people were in intermediate when they should have been in green. When you come up on a group of 3+ people after turn 2 you either end up spooking someone with a pass on the infield or you have to wait until the straight. I agree that being consistent is just as important as lap times but some people have such an ego that they don't want to run in "beginner" group. My day was cut short due to not putting locktite on a shifter bolt and it felt off in the third session.

I was extremely disappointed with how the event itself was ran. First they changed the times last minute, I rushed to make it for 830am so I could make the first session only to be told it wasn't starting until 10am and I don't think we even got on track until 1030. Then Uli said his same useless crap at the riders meeting. If you know nothing about motorcycles you should not be running a track day. Then we get to the corner marshalls who essentially sat in their posts not paying attention to what's going on. When my shifter failed I went off at the end of the second straight and waited 5 minutes for the marshall at corner 2 to acknowledge me. He didn't even stand up out of his lawn chair or tell me the truck was coming. I ended up pushing my bike halfway down the return road with the bike stuck in gear and finally after the session finished the truck came. To make things even worse they had no trailer and they're so cheap they couldn't even get a bike ramp for $100 from Canadian tire to load it into the truck bed. I ended up pushing the bike myself all the way back to put out.

I really wish the Racer5 guys were running the Thursdays like normal.

FWIW.Few years back an old fart got 3rd in superbike.First and only race at cayuga with a totally stock 750 (ok slightly modded),$500 pipe,no oil in left fork(seeping on brakes :angry7:)broken subframe,clip-on on the right-rashed stock bar on the left(WTF),stock springs/shock.How this thing passed tech,i have no idea.Running sub 1:15's all day.

He's not crazy, just really cheap.:agave: And has loads of seat time(and falling off seat time).

If your reading this, get your own dam generator :protest:

Point taken! I'll be there on the 23rd.

Out of curiosity---I notice you're in 3rd gear on the infield, is this a 600 or a 1000?
600.

I remembered and thought about your reply a couple of times today. If anything, I would have assumed a 600 will be in lower gear in the infield. The mystery is exaggerated by the fact I'm in 2nd on a 1000 all the way through the inside of the track. I don't know how fast you are by professional standards, but you are much faster than me, so I am wondering whether it would work better for me if I'm in 3rd as well (even 4th by your standards?!). Do you think being in 2nd is costing me smoothness?

Try running mostly in 3rd, down to 2nd in some corners and 4th on the front straight, but mostly in 3rd.

I will definitely try and experiment with that. Never occurred to me to upshift in the infield before, because by the time I'm close to redline, it's time to hit the brakes.

If I go back toh TMP this season I will play with a combo of 2nd and 3rd thru the infield. For my bike, style and gearing it will probably be a bit of both.

If you want to learn to change gears, get a smaller bike ... On my 400, at TMP, I am using 2nd through 6th, and it sure lets me know if I'm ever in the wrong gear.

3 4 5 6 .... (front straight) ... 5 4 (corner 1) 5 (second straight) 4 3 (esses) buzz the engine hard to redline then 2 (hairpin) 3 (chicane) 2 (hard left) 3 2 (hard right) 3 (sweeper left and corners coming onto the front straight) ... repeat.

If I get hung up in traffic in the double-apex corners leading to the front straight, I'll use 2nd to get a better drive, but normally that corner is too fast for 2nd gear on my bike.

Heres my 4th session of the day...already gasped and tired hahahah
Red group, some one created a caution running off in the left hairpin

Downloaded your video to watch for inspiration before my next TMP day.

You and your mates 750 are on there somewhere. And a bit of off roading by me.

I noticed you're shifting at redline. Gsxr 600 make max Hp about 14500 which drops to 11500 when shifted which gives the most drive. Easily knock off a second. Or 3 at bogie:)
