Tmp thurs may 2

Just spoke to TMP on the phone, for Thursday May 2, TMP will make up the lost time by running a short lunch and extending past 5:00, still starts at 10:00 am for the full amount of time, they said it was "an oversight on their part", but would not elaborate more

I'm happy with that. I also got the call :)

hey Toys for boys, are you coming tomorrow? Did you have a chance to test your GPS lap timer? If yes, where do you set the start point, so it won't trigger a lap everytime you pass by the start in the pit lanes? I'm seeing big cloud, thinking about setting it at the visible line in the middle of the straight: http://goo.gl/maps/x2eCS
I tried really hard to make it for tomorrow but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Sucks cause the weather looks so awesome!! My car has been in the shop for the last week with a problem with the front brakes activating all by themselves :( Just picked it up today and didn't even get it home and the brakes locked up again :( So it's back in the shop, I figure I better save the $$ for whatever that's going to cost. I also found out it uses super rare dual piston front calipers, only used by GM for like 4 months, so hopefully if it's those they'll just need rebuilding :(

I've been playing lots with my GPS lap timer but haven't actually recorded "laps" with it. It has TMP already in it as a pre-loaded track, with all the start/stop and sector points already set up :) I've just been using it to do things like record my 507 runs with realtime video GPS and accelleration/braking overlays (found out "handling G's" doesn't work cause the motorcycle leans into the corners, lol). Can't wait to try it on the track :D

I don't usually park/pit in pit lane so didn't pay attention to where the start/stop line actually is, I'll see if there's a way I can pull up the sectors on my iPod and post a pic :(

I'm shooting for Shannonville on the 8th now...

Thanks TAFB. I guess I'll enter those in mine AFTER the track day when I'm analyizing the gathered data.

Good luck with your car brakes, locking up---that's crazy! Sorry you'll miss the trackday. Maybe on the 23rd you'll be functional again!

I'm already pre-signed up for may 23, 1-9pm ;)

I'll hopefully have my GP shift and quickshifter all set up by then. Gonna need some serious brain training :D

See ya there, ride safe tomorrow.

Great day gentlemen, and ladies.
Perfect way to open the season!

More details. Did they run three groups? Was it well run? How was the track surface? Any accidents? Did anyone need to use a fire extinguisher or a condom?

Yes
Pretty much
Getting worse but acceptable
1 low side and 2-3 run offs
No and no

;)

3 groups none where over crowded
Everyone seemed to be in the right group.
Didn't really see anybody doing anything stupid, nobody black flagged, would have started on time but the event first aid was a bit late.

I ran out of gas and energy before the end of the day so I felt I for my money's worth.

It would be nice if they repaved, it's bumpy, but I'm not going to complain about the only track within an hour from home.

The one low side was in Red. No injuries. Good day for bikes and bones.

I counted 21 riders at one time in Intermediate. Green was no more than 6-7 bikes at any one time, perfect for hot laps. I even passed a few times in the infield and nobody said anything.

There was a blue bike in intermediate, I think a 600----was watching him, definitely not in the right group, seemed like a fast Red!

I saw the black flag being waived a couple of times.

Personally, I had big problems in the morning---the -1/+3 gearing sucked, the bike lifted front in 4th gear, I found it impossible to be smooth in the corners with this gearing. So I changed the sprocket and missed a session (@Doozerdave---thank you for the torque wrench!). Back to -1/0, I had to address my clutch issues. Tightened it a little bit, and everything was great from thereon....well, except for the damn slick tires sliding all over the place (temps and pressures where right). Maybe I couldn't keep the heat in them, I don't know.

I will never reveal my lap times from the morning, let's just say the difference between the 1 & 2nd session times and the rest of the sessions was in the magnitude of 9 seconds! However, I didn't reach my best from end of last season though...and i was on street tires back then, and they weren't sliding so much under power... don't know what's wrong with these slicks---temps were fine, pressures fine (even a bit lower to generate more heat)...

I almost catapulted at the bump at the Turn 1 exit at some point, I must have been still in lean position and the front up...didn't feel good.

Put a zip-tie on my fork at the end of the day---I found out I've been completely bottoming out the forks. Time to lose weight or send them to Sharrard for stiffer springs..

Did the same thing with zip-ties.
Bottoming out front and rear. That's what you get for being 50lbs heavier than stock springs.

Fun day! Hit a new personal best today, feel much better on the late braking, I took 2 seconds off my lap time running a 1:19 consistently, then we ran outta gas lol
went home with a sunburn and in crashed r1 , I'm happy

Great day. I didn't beat my PB today. It was a bit slippery for my SV when I got down to 1:23's so I didn't want to push it. I got to go out in green as a control rider to help some friends of mine, that was really fun actually. No pressure to be on it the whole time. LOL dirty Took out my friend's GSXR750 for one red session, awesome bike. Holy crap it eats the straights fast! For the other red guys, that was me on it with the orange vest to warn you I wasn't bookin' it all that hard. Exited after maybe 6 laps when I started sliding the front around (Q2's on). Good times!

Other then some minor issues, great day.

Need to get in shape, my body quit on me after 330 :( lol

REMINDER : May 12th there is another tmp run lapping day and if you register before may 8th you will get a second track day half off!

From the slight bit of knowledge passed on to me by John it's not just the springs that will help your bottoming, but more so the valving, so you can get the perfect compression setting for your weight. The stock compression adjusters are like on/off, so not easy to dial in at all.

How did the lap timer work? GPS points good? Start/stop all automatic?!?

With that aggressive gearing you had you will feel the engine braking a lot more, perhaps that's why it was so hard to keep it smooth in the corners. I have 30% of my engine braking taken out (with the ECU flash) and will probably take another 20% out for the next track day.

Sucks your tires weren't working well :( I'd hope with slicks they'd be so damn sticky you would lose your courage before they would feel like they weren't sticking :(

Glad everyone came home with a shiny bike :)

I can't understand why you would want no engine brake, the r1 needs it on the straight, stop messing with the electronics, get out there and learn how to ride that thing!

Yesterday I saw a guy with a wicked camera snapping pics of a lot of us. Anyone know who he was? I'd like to see if he got some nice HD shots if my bike? Thx

Because he hasn't got a scooby.

On a similar note; I was amazed by the mount of people in beginner and intermediate with quick shifters. It's like new riders want to go from zero to Moto GP without really learning the basics of riding.
