The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Big surprise /s. Driver had a suspended license already. 24 yo from North York. Hopefully they cut his leg off so he can remember daily what an ass he is.

Knee jerk reaction but totally understandable. If it wasn’t for unintended consequences I’d be okay with adapting a variant of the caste system. He wouldn’t be allowed in restaurants, bars, places of entertainment. He wouldn’t be allowed to own anything so no house or car.

Anybody wanna do a napkin estimate for the damage caused here? I have never commissioned a fence myself
Considering today's prices....my quote was 22k...friend paid 5k for a short section of fence...

In this instance...insurance is paying....

3 fences @ 10k/fence + shed (1k) + landscaping (2k) = 33k as a rough estimate. There's a potential 4th fence that I'm not 100% on...so b/w 30-45k is my napkin estimate.

Insurance shouldn't pay for a DUI. It is void during criminal acts. Now, he hasn't been convicted yet and payout is pretty low so I'm not sure how much they push or if they just write a cheque to get it off the books.

Well I thought insurance will pay out to the injured party. They'll just go after their client for the money due to them being drunk.

The victims of the Yonge Street massacre got zip from the insurer because it was a criminal act. DUI is criminal as well so should theoretically be the same. A lot of drunks are as bad with finances as they are with driving, having nothing to go after.

And assuming the vehicle is financed and not covered, the finance company has more money, lawyers and potential downside so they will be going hard after the driver as their secured loan is now messed up. Fences will be behind them.

Maybe DRLs aren't such a good idea. People need to be taught how to put their lights on manually, or the lowbeams and taillights should turn on automatically instead. I was driving in some fog, and there was only a handful of drivers with their low beam and tail lights on the whole trip. Running red lights, especially on turns, seems to be getting more blatant here too.

IT's very surprising how many cars you still see today driving without any lights on around dusk or just after. I would have thought with modern cars even with auto lights of some sort they would at least have driving daylights. Nope you still see no lights. They really need to fix this situation in the auto world. It might seem minor but add this onto all the nonsense on the roads it adds up.

I think they might have already. Any auto manufacturer that thought it was a good idea to have dash lights on without taillights deserves to have all decision makers punched in the face.

For some reason every time my car goes in for service it comes back out with the auto feature turned off. Auto should be the default every time the ignition turns on.
I noticed that too. Techs turn the lights to off. Not a bad idea if that is your habit but not good to hand it back like that to someone not used to flipping the switch every time they enter and exit.

Today was mostly lane encroachment day in the Ott. I got to honk twice, which my wife hates. First one of those Student Transportation vans decided that a foot of the right turn lane should be allocated to the straight through lane. Then someone coming out of the work driveway decided that centreing their little car on the line, and playing chicken with me, was a good idea. Not sure if they were distracted, but that's been happening more frequently. Either people are getting stupider and/or there are just more drivers on the roads to choose from.

First Student = SYSMs (Screaming Yellow Scud Missiles). None of them have any idea what any of those lines on the road mean.

Like TTC. They learned the "bus has the right of way" rule and completely discard the rest "No driver of a bus shall re-enter the lane of traffic adjacent to a bus bay and move into the path of a vehicle or street car if the vehicle or street car is so close that it is impractical for the driver to yield the right of way.". The second part does not exist to them, blinker, go.

Talk to the drivers and hear the stories. It might explain the Kamikaze attitude.

Middle of Covid surge with everyone saying use masks and hand sanitizer. The kids are licking the windows.
