And they had passed at least one driving test. As for mandatory minimum basic, make the test longer to include those elements. If you take a test in a location that is missing elements, include the exclusions on your license (similar to X for glasses). Get caught on a 400 series highway with a 4 restriction and you get one warning and every subsequent time is a big fine. To remove restrictions and get up to minimum basic skills, book a new driving test that can include them all.
This all sounds great, but has no chance of happening in Ontario!

Yup, roundabout endorsement. Snow-covered-road endorsement. I can think of a few others, but at some point they're mandatory minimum basic skills. I once watched someone spend 3 minutes trying to back out of a parking spot.
Then there's the 30 point turn.

Driving in snow is hard to schedule into a test. Before Sunday shopping parking lots were great for doing donuts which are part of the learning curve.

The double edged sword of HTA 172 makes a lot of the learning procedures illegal, heavy braking, swerving etc.

If they want limited traction in the test, tossing a skid pad behind testing centers isnt too hard. I still think some component of simulator testing is far superior. I want people to respond well under pressure. If you dont respond properly when a kid pops out from between parked cars, no license for you.

Go to any shopping complex in Markham. You could film a segment of Funniest Home Videos just watching drivers figuring out how to park a car.

You've got it wrong. Actually published in a helpful hints column: In winter always back you car into the parking spot. Then when you come out and find it has snowed you only have to clean a little spot on your windshield before driving off.

I didn't want to make broad generalizations in my original comment, but yeah, my observation definitely occurred in Markham.

A quick lesson on how to escalate your HTA exposure.
Worst reporting ever.

"In 2008, an amendment to Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act made it illegal for any motorcycle to have a passenger under the age of 14.

Investigation determined that the motorcyclist was not only travelling with an illegal child passenger,"

That is all patently false. That amendment was proposed but never passed. It is not part of law now nor in the past. It was an interesting waste of time by previous politicians.

The part where the reporter avoided thinking and regurgitated what they were told seems plausibly correct. They were charged for having a passenger not on a seat, it would have been the same charge with their gf sitting on the tank.

"The motorcyclist — a 28-year-old Leamington resident — has been charged with carrying a passenger on a motorcycle improperly, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, and using an unauthorized licence plate."

Wheel was a magnet to the car, came off the divider and whacked the car a second time

This one is amazing. Many people are bashing businesses that are allowed to self-certify their drivers as being shady but here is a standalone school taken OOS for so many issues. Pulling their ability to train drivers seems entirely reasonable in this case.

"Truck Driving School stopped on Steeles Ave in @_HaltonHills driving 5km/h due to DEF Fluid issue. Inspection revealed a brake out of adjustment, a rock between dual tires, 2 damaged airlines, excess wheel free play, and a loose pitman arm/output shaft. OOS @HaltonPolice
And pre-trip identified no issues. Company and driver (not student) charged and vehicle towed for repairs."

Do we fault them for recreating real life truck driving situations....

"Truck Driving School" :ROFLMAO:

Name is of the school is redacted. My money is on Pay Less Truck Driving School on Rutherford Rd.

Given how courts treat it, it roughly is a right. Almost never get a substantial custodial sentence. Maybe a couple grand a year in fines. Cheaper than insurance.
The majority of people learn from their first DUI and either don't do it again, or get much better at avoiding getting caught. Maybe 10% just don't care and will keep on as they've always been doing.

The number of drivers with multiple lifetime suspensions is shocking (many pulled over with three or more every single day). Why even bother? If they already have one lifetime suspension, further suspensions are literally not worth the paper they are written on and a waste of time to document. If someone is in court and already has a lifetime suspension, they obviously haven't learned and correction (or if you prefer societal protection) needs to be ramped up.
