Really? Highbeams during the day???

Blinded during the day? Lol

Unless they are running HIDs at high beam

I didn't realize this was such a controversy.

The dealer I bought my first bike from suggested I run the high beam during the day, and so I did.

I was taught Hi beams during day, at riding school

An interesting question:

Do highbeamers keep their highbeams on during foggy days too? Or do they turn them down?

Your chances of survival are proportional to your common sense and not to application of crutches and bandaids like high beams or modulators.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again:
Don't do it.
My very good friend was involved in very serious accident, caused by high beams.
Cager was approaching with high beams on, my friend couldn't see anything, he WAS blinded. He ended up on soft (bumpy) shoulder, crashed and nearly lost his life. Cager was charged... he was dui on top of being stupid.

It seriously bugs me whenever I see rice/vw/trash with ebay HIDs, dumb cagers who don't even know what little blue indicator is for.... and utterly disappointing to see fellow riders in that mix.

Alot of people in here think that they own the road. You have a CHOICE whether to stay in front of someone with their high beams on. If you CHOOSE to ride in front of them, it's your CHOICE and no one else's!

Bull pucky - in traffic you don't always have the choice - grow up and turn them off.

Every time you turn them on now you'll think of this thread and just maybe consider how inconsiderate you are.

As in "It's my road - I'm going to leave my high beams on"?

Next you'll get people paying you back going slow and then speeding up when you go to pass.

There's nothing like everyone driving more and more cheesed off as time goes on. Such a friendly place to ride.

This is the sort of thing that annoys me; when people don't see who it is, who is really being selfish in such a situation. Who creates the situation? Who is it, who is breaking the law?

Yay, hi beams AND crap HID installs to contend with.

I have seen more and more riders thinking it's OK to ride during the day with highbeams on all the time.
Not only is it illegal, it's just not a good idea.
I was just followed by a cruiser (victory) with his high beams on.
Damn was it anoying. I let him pass and followed him with my high beams on. He didn't like it much????????
It ****** me off enough to do this to him, and I'm a rider.
I wonder what other drivers think about being blinded by some guys highbeams?
Why has it become so widely accepted that it's OK?
It's just stupid. Stop it everybody.
Whatta bunch of garbage.
Bright lights don't blind anyone in the DAYTIME.
And not illegal. If it's daytime my highbeam is on!
If you think it's annoying, awwwww...
We've gotta call you a wahhhmbulance.
What's truly stupid is not doing it.
Or what - should we all saw off our exhaust mufflers, for 'safety'?
LoL, no that's not annoying, heheh...
Please Low Rider, no more bad advice.

OK, here's the thing. As many have stated high beams cause issues with visibility, for oncoming drivers. If your goal is to be visible and you're even temporarily blinding oncoming drivers, then you're causing an issue for yourself especially at intersections, where the majority of collisions occur. It's like the "loud pipes save lives" garbage; false.

If you want to improve the odds of being seen, then your high beams are the absolute last thing to consider. They're highly directional and of questionable utility. Of much greater utility, is something that is omni-directional; your clothing. A vest, hi-viz jacket, or even just a brightly coloured jacket will be noticed from all directions. A brightly coloured helmet, even a solid one, rises above the level of surrounding traffic and is visible from all sides.

Be smart about being visible, not just annoying.

Someone already made the claim that it's legal, then posted the section intending to prove that it was. I showed why it isn't.

This is your opinion. I don't agree.
I want to be visible to those directly in front of me because that's where I'm headed...
Of course at dusk/dawn/dim conditions/fog or when stopped at a red light, or riding in a group, feel free to lower your beam (it's only courteous).
But to all you guys rolling through yellow lights doing 80 in a 60 (you know who you are) without bright light, you're gonna get it - it's just a matter of time, guaranteed...

Seconded. I had issues with teaching the "high beams on every time, all the time" mantra when I was a CSC instructor for the very reasons you stated. Defensive riding and hi-vis gear are the key to survival, not HID lights and loud pipes. And yes, I'm not the best at using the hi-vis gear but that is a personal choice. But I do ride defensively with low beams on and stock pipes on my Road Glide and rarely have issues with oncoming traffic.

Read the rest of the post. It's not opinion; it's fact.
