To be seen as a crackpot in the Muslim religion would require a Herculean effort.

it require being called out on intentionally inaccurate translations to support extreme right wing ideals even when corrected.. personally i don't know what mosque he went to in order to hear something like that....muslims in general are very active in questioning and challenging any inaccuracies in translations... I've witnessed that on numerous events.. that is why all muslims are required to memories the quran in its original context so no one shall get away with any additions/subtractions/ or substitutions.

Jiggs McDonald, NHL Hall of Fame broadcaster speaking in Orillia, Ontario, says: “I am truly perplexed that so many of my friends are against another mosque being built in Toronto.

I think it should be the goal of every Canadian to be tolerant regardless of their religious beliefs. Thus the mosque should be allowed, in an effort to promote tolerance.

That is why I also propose that two nightclubs be opened next door to the mosque, thereby promoting tolerance from within the mosque.

We could call one of the clubs, which would be gay, “The Turban Cowboy”, and the other a topless bar called “You Mecca Me Hot.”

Across the street there could be a lingerie store called “Victoria Keeps Nothing Secret”, with sexy mannequins in the window modeling the goods.

Next door to the lingerie shop there would be room for an adult sex toy shop, “Koranal Knowledge”, its name in flashing neon lights, and on the other side, a liquor store called “Morehammered.”

All of this would encourage Muslims to demonstrate the tolerance they demand of us, so their mosque issue would not be a problem for others.

Yes we should promote tolerance!

Do those Mosques get tax breaks afforded other religions?

Why wouldn't they? But I think tax breaks for any/all religion should be stopped.

mujahadeen is not someone who fights only non muslims.. for example in syria...
mujahadeen is referred to someone who fights oppression and tyranny such as the taliban when they fought the soviets.. or when the resisted the US invasion..both were oppressive to the LOCAL population granted the taliban weren't particularly better

your definitions are helpful either mujahadeen is a plural for [FONT=arial, sans-serif]mujahid or engaged in jihad . Since even among muslim scholars the meaning of jihad is debated then its hard to say for what it truly means.

For example you could be striving on a path to God by feeding the homeless and preaching and this would be just a valid form of Jihad as a war to kill unbelievers since its all in interpretation. Im glad you don't take it to mean a literal battle or holy war as some do. But this is the problem with religion is the interpretation god seems to be a particularly bad communicator of his ideas.

If they knew what was being promoted inside, should they?

Well, the accuracy of the report of what was being promoted inside, is in question here.

how about the fundamentalist christian churches that preach intolerance towards gays?

actually prophet mohammed himself said to put your hand on an orphans head(as is accepted in eastern cultures as a sign of love) is jihad.. to feed the poor is jihad.. to give to the needy is jihad(money) etc. so not a translation problem.. literally thats what the last prophet of islam encouraged in his words and in his actions

heres a link not from the islamic world for those who question their intentions

http://www.scu.edu/ethics/publications/submitted/heit/whatisjihad.html

most of the quotes are referenced around mecca of that time geographically and chronologically speaking.

Great again not what all his followers take from it tho. If what we called radicalist muslims were going around and touching orphans and giving money to the needy we would be having this convo.

The Government uses our tax $ to allow charitable organizations.
They have a guideline as to what they will deem as charitable status.
Promoting Religion is one of them. I read that and asked, how is this not blatantly obvious that they are using public money to support religion.

ding ding ding ****ing ding...

They also don't have to prove that their promoting religion is beneficial

Although i will say allot of churches still run great social programs.

i guess in the end it comes down to what you or rather they want to believe. like that pastor who was promoting the burning of the Quran.. what he doesn't know is thats how it is disposed off in the islamic world when no longer useable..its done in a controlled and respectable manner after all it is a religious text..many people i know sent emails to him offering to give old unusable Quran copies if he promises to follow the traditions of the process. he did not respond. maybe the all went directly to spam who knows..
i do not recall the guys name.. the guy with the big mustache.

It is blatantly obvious but it started long ago in different times. You could never start that now.

Could we end that now?

Still what terry did despite it being on obvious act or provocation was well within the legal realm of free expression. If thats what extremist christians are like still would take them over extremist muslims anyday.

The better example would be the african Pentecostals that are killing muslims (and via versa), and people the accuse of witchcraft. Again tho same thing god is not a good communicator.

i guess in the end it comes down to what you or rather they want to believe.

Yup its the "God thinks like you" phenomenon

to all the people who donate to orphanages, needy etc.. good job..

by doing that good deed one is carrying out jihad on the path of which ever god/ideals that he/she believe in..the deed is what matters not what language you use to name the deed
