Inciting a riot?

This. Want more police powers? Cause a problem and demand them.

This is my favorite part of the thread, when we hear the outcome of the investigation 2 years later.
Now i can laugh at all the brainwashed robots that wasted so many keystrokes trying to defend the cops actions.

I liked this part

"Even officers in place thought the situation untenable, with one describing the incident commander as "maniacal," the report says.
"Where are they going to give them a chance to disperse?" one officer asked.
"They aren't, that's the problem," another replied.
"Well, that's stupid."

It's not quite that black and white. On Saturday, the protesters needed to get the fire hose. On Sunday, the police did. The problem is that with all of the officers that were brought in from outside, and those who took off any identification, the actual people responsible won't be brought to account.

Not to mention with all those security resources on hand they rush suppress the peaceful protestors in the designated protest area then the moment that a violent few march on Queen street the large security force in riot gear is nowhere to be found. Something is wrong.

this statement is not so black and white either.

certain protesters, namely the black bloc, needed to get tuned up for their criminality.

there were thousands of legitimate, peaceful protesters who completely law-abiding. and there were hundreds who had their civil liberties violated on that saturday, especially those who were kettled at the novotel hotel on the saturday night.

i do agree that the willful removal of identification will make it much more difficult to get at the police responsible for abuses. however, they need to try and get the ball rolling somehow. as well, i understand a class action suit is in the courts. hopefully that leads to damages significant enough that it will cause any police service in the land to think twice before trampling on charter rights in such a blatant, widespread fashion.

like i wrote a long time ago, i'd like to see all of the apologists eat a big steaming pile of humble pie.

There were also a goodly number of 'peaceful protesters', who knowingly acted as cover for black bloc criminals. Not all of the 'innocent' were actually innocent, on that day either. Sure, the majority of protesters were innocent. So were the majority of cops. The bad on both sides ****ed it up for everyone.

The difference is that one group (protesters gone bad) ended up in detention and the other group (bad cops) suffered no punishment.

after the black bloc finished their rampage, your point is moot. everything after that (which is the majority of saturday and all day sunday) was blatant criminality on the part of police.

would love to know who decided that 100-odd clearly "disguised" protesters could not be arrested by thousands and thousands of police

I have to wonder at Police intel as you could hear on the radio where the Black block was meeting and starting to march from. Could have been headed off well in advance.

more like the bad cops went home with some fat OT pay and a sense of righteousness

Re: Ever see a cop fly past you ....

It's a new generation of robot cops.
Here's a visual aid to describe the type of police officers we have now.

They have the same mob mentality as the people they arrest.

[h=1]How Corporations and Local Governments Rob the Poor Blind[/h]The poster case for government persecution of the down-and-out would have to be Edwina Nowlin, a homeless Michigan woman who was jailed in 2009 for failing to pay $104 a month to cover the room-and-board charges for her 16-year-old son’s incarceration. When she received a back paycheck, she thought it would allow her to pay for her son’s jail stay. Instead, it was confiscated and applied to the cost of her own incarceration.
