Laid-off? GTAM Members looking-out.....???

Job opening soon...Print Production Manager, The Marketing Department in London, ON. PM me with your email addy and I'll send you more info.

Man i just checked out their website that company sounds great... Im definately in the market for a new print related job, too bad theyre in London and im downtown toronto... My company is grinding the hell out of us lately since they let 90% of the production staff go all at once (about 80 people)... I dont mind working hard but honestly we're doing like 400% more work now after the lay offs, we didnt get a pay raise last year and and now we just heard we're not getting a pay raise this year either, which hurts because i was in line for a 35% increase before the freeze, and even that would have put me in a lower bracket than almost everyone else who works there. And its not even just about the money either, the working environment has gone way downhill too... I used to really enjoy going to work, it was a lot of fun and was one of those jobs you honestly looked forward to going to every single day. I probably wouldnt even be considering a new job if i still felt that way. But we got a new boss right before the last round of layoffs, and they let a lot of my good friends go, a lot of the people who really made our business unit as great as it was. And im not just saying that because they were my friends, they also let a lot of good people go who i didnt particularly like but i recognized that they were incredible at what they did. Not to mention we're being told now that we are not allowed to talk to our coworkers unless its directly related to a job, take lunch with our coworkers (i have no idea the reasoning behind this, other than it means more than one person is no longer actively working, but we all get a 30 minute unpaid lunch so what does it matter if we decide to take it with someone else?), leave the building during our unpaid 30 minute lunch (Can they even do this, legally?), or take more than 1 5 minute smoke break per day (Im pretty sure ontario law guarantees 20 minutes of paid break time per shift) or even get up from your desk to use the washroom without first informing your shift supervisor. It feels a lot like highschool, and not the fun parts of highschool either.

So... yeah, if anyone has any openings in the print industry in toronto, let me know :) Financial or technical industry preferred, but only because those are the kinds of jobs ive been doing for the last 5 years, and thats only because i havent been able to keep up with the newest commercial software as well as id have liked. Ive been taking classes for quark and indesign recently, but i honestly feel like if i was hired to do ad work or something at this point, id need to sit down with someone for a week before i can get fully back up to speed, and i realise a lot of companies dont want to do that when they can get some kid fresh out of school who already knows the software (But not all the nuances of design ;)). But if its sales or production coordination, no issues :)

Bob, send me your resume. My department had lost a Production Coordinator who wanted to try new things in August 08...MY Production Coordinator. Due to market instability and the decrease of work coming in, the other PC's have been able to cover my territory. Note, after sowing her oats in the other company, she wanted to come back but position was no longer available. Past month, the workload seems to be picking up and the other PC's seem to be overwhelmed. Possible opportunity in the near future.

^ Have you looked into this Ontario program called "Second Career"? They provide training for those who've been laid off in a new career and provide financial support (somewhat). Might be something to think of?

How's this for a cock in the @ss.

I've been in radio for the last 6 years in various jobs on air/promotions. 3 years ago they promoted me to Promotion Director moving me and the family from Ottawa to Sudbury. From Day 1 the sales manager (who wasn't my direct report) hated me. He wouldn't even shake my hand, and for 2.5 yrs made my job a nightmare so when the budget cuts came down in Feb of this year with his recommendation my name was on the list.
A few months later I was hired by the radio station down the street to launch their new station. I was there 2 months, launched the station perfectly, doing really well and loving life. My new manager tells me they have hired my old sales manager. I was fired the next day. I heard in the grapevine afterwards my firing was a condition of his hire.

So I need a new gig. Anyone here in radio? PM me.

I'm losing my job too. They gave me notice that they're getting rid of my shift....
Due to down sizing and restructuring...

The stupid part? I work for the largest banking company in Canada that was one of the few to turn out profit even during the recession... and my branch is understaffed!
