Laid-off? GTAM Members looking-out.....???

I always took the high road when I resigned, gave adequate notice and was polite. I've never been in a situation where I felt my boss or co-workers were unbearable so I wouldn't condemn anyone for being spontaneous, but a word of caution...
I left a company in Leaside to work for a company in Scarborough. The company in Scarborough was actually a supplier to the company in Leaside. It was a good move to leave on good terms.
A few years later I left the Scarborough company for a competitor in the west end. Once again I left on good terms. The company in Leaside was also a customer of the west end company.
Thirteen years later the company in Scarborough bought the company in the west end that I was working for and they wanted me to go back to work for them as part of the deal.
Burning you bridges might be okay in some professions or industries but not all industries or professions offer anonimity. Some are very incestuous so word gets around. If you are the emotional, spontaneous type then you may want to try to plan you actions well, look as far into the future as you can and seriously consider taking the "high road". Sometimes "getting it off you chest" can be good for you mental health but hard on the wallet.

Interesting there my friend. Thanks for the share

Some of you guy's that are out of work should maybe look at being a Car Salesman for the time being. Business isn't the greatest right now but cars are still selling and some guys are making good money, besides its better than sitting at home. Also it is usually pretty easy to get a job although Job security isn't very good. If I was just getting in the business now I would apply at a Ford Store, really good product that is selling well.

BTW my Mother got laid off so if anyone knows of a office admin job that they could guide me towards it would be appreciated. She worked 8+ years in a Dental office full-time as well as other part time jobs on top of that. She is eager to work and responsible.

All the best everyone, the economy is turning around.

Tell your mother to be a Car Salesman for the time being. Business isn't the greatest right now but cars are still selling and some guys are making good money, besides its better than sitting at home. Also it is usually pretty easy to get a job although Job security isn't very good. Fair enough. It simply isn't her kind of thing though. Also what I said for sure wasn't advice but rather just throwing an avenue out there for sometime to look into who may be interested but hadn't thought of it.

Anyone know what firefighters start at?

Anyone know what firefighters start at?

I believe it is around this...

$50,955 Probationer (1 yr)
$60,842 after successfully completing one year of training
$76,052 for a 1st Class Firefighter
It might be slightly higher now.

I believe 24 hour shifts as well. This was last year when I was looking.

Whats considered first class? Thats pretty good though! I heard the pension is pretty solid too!

I knew it was 24 hour shifts, but its like 6 days on or 4 days on then that many off, so not that bad!

Shot in the dark, but am in my first year of computer programming at school and with summer coming up am hoping to find some work in the field.
