Laid-off? GTAM Members looking-out.....???

A friend of mine is looking for associate and intermediate software devs. They're a .net shop, so c# would be your tool of choice with some c++. Reach me by PM if you're interested.

We're looking for a Infrastructure Network Analyst and a Junior IT Solution Architect in the GTA. PM me for job descript.

We are always looking for part time bartenders to work nights in our small lounge area at the Hershey Centre SportsZone.

This is primarily an indoor soccer facility. We usually need staff 6PM to midnight. Limited menu both food and drink.

The upside is that this is a low stress environment that is not especially busy. The downside is that in this environment there is not big $ in tips. Perfect for students who are looking for a few dollars a few nights a week. Probably not suited for bar staff that are used to a fast paced club environment but good job for the right person.

You can email resumes to me directly-I will pass on to Food and Beverage Director.

Damn, I would be very interested in that. I have a smart serve too, and worked as a bartender at the zoo of all places. But I live in Scarborough and Mississauga seems unfeasible for me. Do you know of any places in Toronto or Scarborough?

Also, for folks who are interested, there is a job fair tomorrow at the convention centre downtown. I might go there.

Hi all,

I had to take a leave of absence from school and I am looking for work. I thought I would post here and ask if any of you know of any positions available in just about anything. I have a B.H.Sc.Hon. from McMaster and a great deal of retail, health care, and customer service experience. I learn quickly and am willing to work in any field, I just need a job asap. I have been applying to jobs for months now with no luck so far

Hey ppl, I just found this thread and thought it was an excellent idea.

I was recently laid off, I worked as a service advisor at Canadian tire, Nissan/Infiniti, and Assistant Manager at Active Green & Ross..

Not really looking to be a service advisor again right now, looking at other options. Graduated with Business Marketing ..

Ideally if I could get into a automotive head office (toyota, subaru etc...) that would be ideal..

or any other jobs that would be interesting would be considered.

thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I'm searching for leads in the hidden job market for Junior Electrical Engineer or Engineer in Training, permanent or internship. I am a registered Engineer-in-Training working on getting my Professional Engineers License.

I'm already hitting the usual and unusual job sites, so really hoping for those word of mouth openings.

If anyone has any leads or anything post or PM.

Many thanks.

Hey guys, there is a retail job opening at a new Apple Store in Upper Canada mall in Newmarket. I think they are still looking for people.

This was a generic email sent to a friend of mine who submitted his resume, but I think if you contact them they may still ask you to attend a seminar.

What a great idea for a thread!!

Well, I am an IT support guy, with speciality in project management and networking. I will be moving to toronto on 1st Sept. I would be interested in any IT support roles, but would prefer a networking position.

I am only looking for contract work, as I am only living in Canada for 1 year (thats how long the visa is for) Its a working holiday visa, and allows for work, as does my insurance.

If you have anything, it would be greatly appricated.

I'm in the process of leaving my current job and will be needing a new carreer. Right now I work for a contracting company that works a a preferred trade for the insurance industry. Simply put, your house/business burns, floods, gets vandalized, blows up blows down, grows green fuzzy stuff all over, etc etc etc, I implement everything from cleanup to full rebuild.
I don't want to continue in this field as I can't take the constant pressure of dealing with people and adjusters. I am a fantastic people person and everyone I deal with enjoys the experience as usually it is under devastating circumstances that I meet my customers. Unfortunately, the people want more than they had usually and I am in the middle of everyone. Adjusters don't want to do dirty work so they allocate it to me.
This specific career I am in is too time consuming. At the moment I'm not working to live, I am living to work. I can't get my job out of my head, even when I'm off. And even when I'm off, my BB is strapped to my hip in case a natural disaster happens like these ever so prevalent extreme thunderstorms. They leave a rash of flooded basements everytime and the work load is just too much.
The industry has also changed whereas there are too many 'watchdog' systems in place. Before, you got a claim and you took care of it and submitted all paperwork in the end. Now everything is web/server based so the demand for useless and redundant data entry is extremely time consuming. More time is spent updating files electronically than actually doing the legwork to get the customer back up and running. For example, one insurance company has hired a company on Florida to oversee their files. The people on that end are American (obviously) and have no idea of how our industry works for costing etc. So we are bombarded by electronic notes to revise this, revise that, upload this and that, provide backup for the backup of the backups that we have submitted, and it goes on and on. Too hard to explain unless you know what I'm talking about specifically.
Mostly, it's the fact I can't deal with being oncall as well. 24/7 for 7 days, every third week. I can't get my work out of my head at any time. Cold sweats while trying to go to sleep while thinking of what needs to get done and what wasn't done. Topping it off is being responsible for everything, yet my staff and subtrades are the ones ****ing up. I get the beating from adjusters and homeowners while I have no control over some things. I am literally the punching bag for everyone. Sucks bigtime. I have always lived by the motto, 'If you want something done right, then do it yourself'. I take a lot of pride in my own accomplishments and work, so I find it difficult to trust having things done by others. But that's just the way it is.

ANYHOW...... I'm in the market for work and just putting it out there. I've been a supervisor in this job and my last job since 1990. Always started at the bottom and progressed up. A take charge type of person to get a job done. My employers saw this immediately.
I've got framing carpentry and custom deck/gazebo experience. Owned my own company doing that until my back went and that is out of the question now. I can still do it but can't do heavy lifting...Catch22. Got my Electronics Engineering Technician Certification way back in '88. Good with a computer/docs. Easily pick up things. Great eye/hand co-ord. I've done a bit of everything somehow, somewhere. (Not everything, but you get the idea)
AT the moment, I will be walking away from a very good salary position with a vehicle. I know for a fact that I won't get anything close to that unless I get really lucky. Doubt it. So I have no expectations, except for NO MINIMUM wage. lol. I may even go back to school. (43yrs young)
Let me know if anyone out there has anything..
Cheers
Roger
