I'm OUT!

Couple days ago, there was a collision between an SUV and a pickup truck, on Hwy 10 south of Shelburne. At least one person was killed in the collision when the northbound SUV crossed the center line and hit the pickup truck head-on.

I was southbound and passed the scene maybe a minute after it happened. Could have been anyone. Bike related? Nope. I was in the cage, coming back from a job site.

Stuff can happen to ANYone. I'd rather live and enjoy what I do, rather than crawl into a cave for fear of going outside.

What a copp out. You don't deserve to ride a bike. You don't think people die every day from other things. Now some young person is going to read this and either not buy a bike or sell theirs cause of your remark. You are only helping to help kill the industry, so in my opinion I'm glad you sold your bike and any view you have from here in on is not worth a penny. Lock your doors, don't go to work, or shopping or anything. Just sit at home watching T.V until you expire. Oh wait how are you going to avoid that? It's going to happen no matter what, don't miss out on life for anything or else you will die full of regrets.

He doesn't "deserve" to ride a bike? Like it's a special treat if you're a good boy and do what Uncle Rick says to do? Are there no activities so risky that we shouldn't attempt them? Of course there are, we all draw the line somewhere. Your line might be higher than his, that doesn't make you superior or special or more deserving of anything. And what other people decide based on what they read is up to them. Are you saying you also know better than the newbie who is scared off by this thread? Really, should everyone on earth be riding because you say so? No.

For the rest of us, taking a risk lands squarely on the 'con' side of the pros/cons checklist. We make an informed decisioon based on our interests, abilities, goals, tolerances and we usually come out with the right assessment for ourselves. I say, he 'deserves' to do exactly as he pleases and you don't deserve to be giving anyone any advice.

Dude, there aren't enough hours in the day to point these things out to people. Two, to and too are the worst.

You said it.

I don't have the heart to tell the captain of our soccer team that on her weekly email letting us know the time and field of our games....she spells "you're" incorrectly every single time (uses "your" instead).

you have to! that kind of insanity must be stopped.
she isn't going to learn unless you tell her. !!!

good lord!!!!

this thread turned nasty quickly. lol

everyone has their own reasons for leaving.

respect the fact that they made a choice and are sticking to it.

that their opinion on matters relating to motorcycles somehow changes because they no longer own a bike is quite LUDACRIS.

to each their own...... no need to flame. :)

What's LUDACRIS is going from the window to the wall and giving it my all.

Ludicrous would be changing your sig to his.

Hey Fastar, maybe you got it maybe you didn't. I really don't give a ***** but when you say you are out because too many people are dying, again it's a copp out. Just say you are uncomfortable, or had a close call or maybe the cons out weight the pros. Maybe you just had another baby or whatever. But young people or people who want to get into the sport and keep it going, whether it be a sportbike, cruiser or whatever read that and they do because they research and go on sites like this sometimes before choosing to buy a bike. They fall into the whole bikes aren't safe because so and so said "Too many people are dying" More people go out and ride on a regular basis, some a little hot, some just cruise and they come home safe. His opinion is what it is but don't make comments that may dissuade others from getting into the sport. Remember, the more of us on the road the more people will be aware.

Coles notes: "He should use the words I want him to use to say the same thing, as long as it's nothing negative about motorcycling".

Got it, thanks Uncle Rick.

If there's a new kid involved, then I can understand giving up riding (temporarily). I don't think I would if I had a kid, but then again I don't have one so I can't be definitive on that. When you're a new parent your not only risking your life but the well-being of your child and spouse.

I can respect the decision, but I'm left wondering what the final straw was, though? Was someone close to OP killed? Did he have a near miss or crash himself?

There are too much ppl who ride out of their limits of their ability and don't know when to call it quits. Its a dangerous sport and if you don't respect the machine, u will get killed. If its hard for you to respect its boundaries, I would say u did the right thing and quit.

If you felt unsafe, then you made the right decision. Good for you! Hopefully you'll find something that you enjoy just as much. And who knows, in a few years you might just pick it up again.

Ditto to this^^^. Your life; your decision. People need to simply respect that.

My Gooodness! Some of you ignorant people, with your judgemental, condescending attitudes...makes me ashamed to ride a motorcycle sometimes. Hope to never meet some of you on the road.

Dude, i wouldnt make that decision myself but if you felt like youre done, then youre done. no one knows your exact story, maybe you have a kid, maybe a wife, maybe financial problems, who knows. but hopefully youll be back someday. and forget these haters.

Yeah real mature, instead of just quitting riding....To be mature about it you must make a post about it here, change your signature to list all your bikes as SOLD, and have a cool signature like this "I'm done putting my life on the line. I have too much to loose"...Like everyone needs to know because your the most important rider in the GTA, what other sites have you notified...LOL.....What are you after, sympathy posts? "Sorry to hear that we will miss you dearly and I will kept you in my heart every time I ride"....

Just quit and dont let the door hit you in the *** on the way out...
amen johnny

Well, he did decide to announce his decision to the forum, kinda opens it up to criticism, pointless as it may be. But with the only reason being its too dangerous now, it kinda paints the rest of us still riding as a bit crazy.

He may very well have meant loosen, the gs500f will loosen just about anything attached to it from vibrations.
