I'm OUT!

You think you're the only one that has "too much to lose"?
As mentioned by someone else, every person that rides a motorcycle knows the risk that ANYTHING can happen, at ANY TIME. We know this.

Please don't shove your big bold red letters of self-importance down our throats.

+1!!
What the OP did was the equivalent of posting the he was quitting smoking cigars on a Cigar Lovers forum, not the Lung Associations.
He knows full well that we are all aware of the risks we take every time we throw a leg over a bike yet his taking a holier than thou stance in his reason for giving up riding is insulting. There is pictures of rotten lungs and nasty teeth on cigarette packs, do we need photos of horrific motorcycle accidents on the brochures for motorcycles or stuck on the top of the gas tank?
We all have friends, relatives, co-workers and family who constantly remind us of the dangers and give us a reason to ride as safe as possible, especially after each of these accidents, we do not need to come to a motorcycle forum where we expect the members to understand and share our passion to also tell us that we are playing russian roulette with our lives.

Everyone has completely forgotten that this is an open forum, it is a personal choice to read a thread or not. I'm not taking any sides, just saying that everyone has opinions and the forum needs to respect that. No one has the right to say what someone else can say as long as they feel it is motorcycle related.

So people are free to say what ever the **** they want, if you don't like it go somewhere else.

End of story.

Ha Ha!! I remember the big YELLOW and WHITE stickers that were on every motorcycle tank in the seventies - WARNING of the dangers of riding LOL!
Gawd they were ugly stickers!

All my bikes have been bought "USED" so I never had to remove such unsightly stickers.

Just sayin'

Just as people are free to criticize his post. Hey, open forum, right?

One can't really look at the numbers. You just have to be confident with your skills and that's it. Be aware of what around you. I have been riding a long time and definitely these days I am more defensive, watching out and assuming that others don't see me. I think in the past ten years I see slot more riders out there. Motorcycles are definitely more commonplace in the GTA these days. Do what you feel comfortable with but really it's not about numbers of accidents etc as there are many more riders out there, so I think the stats are skewed.

what are you new around here? Lexminator and Chelsys was over 50 pages each

Ya but OP isn't a chick. Right?

I have no idea. Wait...what the hell am I doing back in this thread?

Goddamnit.....

Yeah real mature
Were you referring to this post?
PuSSy! And I dont mean the cat in your avatar
It's clear the OP's personal decision has offended you in some deep way...

Personally I can't see myself not riding but I can certainly see why someone else would want to give it up (their best friend was just killed on a bike, a newborn, maybe both and the wife says give it up). Whatever caused their decision, it's their life to do with as they please. Granted I probably wouldn't have bothered with the post, explaining I'm done with riding for some good reason, but again, to each their own. No need to scold the dude(or dudette) for their decision to quit (especially not knowing all the facts).

I also have a lot to lose, therefore in order to increase my survival rate i quit smoking and started riding.

You're out like the fat kid in dodge-ball.

To the OP: I understand where you're coming from, we all deal with life's **** in different ways. Can't say that I haven't thought about hanging up the helmet myself a few times over the last 29 years, having lost a few good friends and witnessed the untimely demise of a few others on two wheels along the way. In the end, you have to do what is right for YOU.

Just make sure from now on you always check twice before doing a lane change or turning at an intersection while in your car, okay?

If you felt unsafe, then you made the right decision. Good for you! Hopefully you'll find something that you enjoy just as much. And who knows, in a few years you might just pick it up again.

+ 1
make the best decision for yourself...it's gotta work for you or it's not worth it

WOW, I never in my mind thought this thread would cause so much chatter... To set the story straight, I sold the bike for a couple of reasons. One I have a daughter who is my life. I think about her everytime I ride and think about how it would effect her life if something happened to me. The pros of riding didn't out weigh the cons of messing up her life. Secondly, I'm recently seporated and moved into a condo with limited parking. I had no where to keep the bike.

At no point was I ever scared of riding. LOL If you knew me you would laugh at the thought. This was not an easy decieion for me. Also, I am fully aware the the chances of being killed by something else is eaqually as high. LOL

The reason for my original post was simply to say goodbye a to with you all to be safe. That was it. I'm sorry if my sig offended you in some strange way.

The one thing I have learned is that if I do return to riding I will never be posting on this site again.

Thank you

If you had posted all this at the start instead of a few cryptic words, the thread probably wouldn't have morphed into a flame fest. But, hey, where's the fun in that, right?
