Reading this drivel makes me glad to be a unionized construction worker (off on Fridays thankyouverymuch). Say what you want about construction workers but this office stuff sound seriously flawed as a lifestyle.

it's not all bad.

I worked construction for over 10 years. They both have their ups and downs, it all comes down to your attitude and how you wanna go about it.

I thought I was being annoying at first until another coworker stated the guy is normally an *******. That's when I figured, asking a public forum how to deal w/ this **** is better than gossiping in an office about why this guy's an *******.

I noticed. I hang out with a group of riders that don't do office jobs. Their sense of humor is quite funny but would not fly at all in an office space. A few of them are mechanics too; made me realize that exotic car owners can't actually drive and always bust the clutch.

As topic states. You're on a temporary job and you find some guy is extremely condescending when explaining things to you. Other coworkers tell you he's normally like that and it pisses them off too. You tell him politely to stop grilling you and he becomes more infuriated and goes so far as to tell you you're wasting his time.

Would you ignore it or step it up? I'm curious to see how you guys would deal with a situation like this.

My guess (JUST GUESSING HERE!! And half joking) is that this young fellow still lives with his parents.
He's not into politics or religion at all.
Uses his smartphone constantly for texting, but rarely makes a call.
Thinks he is ready to enjoy the best of corporate life, because he strongly believes that no one else in the office knows as much as him, so he deserves to be recognized asap.
Takes offence to anyone trying to explain anything to him. God forbids!

I've got a question for you office folks: is there never a case where calling someone out on their lack of professionalism works out? It seems like it's always either just grin & bear it or report it to HR. No one ever offers "go talk to them" as a solution. I'm a pretty tolerant person, but when it gets out of hand, I call them out on it and it always works. But then again, my work environments are a lot more lax than you guys (even when I was in the office).

The key points I edited only emphasized my thought process and attempt at humility along with the details of the actual problem; I edited them due to privacy issues. I even stated that I really thought it was my fault until a few other co workers stated the guy has an attitude problem.

Again, I'm going to say other coworkers messaged me during the confrontation that the guy has an attitude problem. I initially thought I may have been doing something wrong.

if you can't handle a guy with an 'attitude problem' good luck with anything beyond a contract job. it's a fact of life that you'll have to work with people you can't stand. you know what, they probably can't stand you either. you can either ***** about it, and try and figure out some backhanded way of getting even, but you're missing the entire point. you're at work to work. no one cares about your personality conflicts. i've dealt with a few ********, and there are plenty out there. figure out what it is that they want, figure out what it is you have to give them, and find a way to work together. no one cares if you like each other.

There are better ways to deal with it, such as talking, than ******** on others.

Last I recall, outside of the work world, you give the wrong person **** and your face gets broken.

I am guessing he is a Gen Y having a communication issue with an ol' timer. Not trying to make fun of him.

A few of you have suggested that I have a beef with the OP, or trying to make him feel bad, but honestly I am not.

Also consider that just because I post abrasive stuff doesn't mean I am wrong!!
