How would you deal with a condenscending coworker?

I've never liked snitching =( Seems low. But I suppose I could.

was a reference to an old thread ... I guess you woulda had to have read it to see the humour

If he is explaining things to you in a condenscending way...do you even need to ask him the questions in the first place? Could you go to someone else for answers? Sometimes the easiest thing to do is just avoid the problem.

There's a guy like that at my work place, but surprisingly he treats me like a grandson or something hahaha he goes over the top to do me favors all the time. I'm not sure if he was always like that towards me, but I did always try to make his life easier, whenever I needed something from him, I offered to make it the easiest for him as psosible (like if I needed him to pull some data for me, I offered to have him show me and then I could do it myself, so the 10 minutes he spent showing me saved him hours of digging through databases).

As topic states. You're on a temporary job and you find some guy is extremely condescending when explaining things to you. Other coworkers tell you he's normally like that and it pisses them off too. You tell him politely to stop grilling you and he becomes more infuriated and goes so far as to tell you you're wasting his time.

Would you ignore it or step it up? I'm curious to see how you guys would deal with a situation like this.

Answer yes or no please!

Were you born between 1988 and 1994???
Have you heard the term Millennials, Generation Y, Millennial Generation, Generation Next or Net Generation ???
You are very tech savvy, but think of yourself as "cool" (not a nerd)
You are unmarried.
Without kids.
This is your first office job out of school.
This is your second office job out of school.

What???
Legit questions.
:p

My guess (JUST GUESSING HERE!! And half joking) is that this young fellow still lives with his parents.
He's not into politics or religion at all.
Uses his smartphone constantly for texting, but rarely makes a call.
Thinks he is ready to enjoy the best of corporate life, because he strongly believes that no one else in the office knows as much as him, so he deserves to be recognized asap.
Takes offence to anyone trying to explain anything to him. God forbids!

:p

EDIT!!!! AND REMOVED...because I remembered something

One more question to add to your very good ones

Does he have an anime style hair cut?

No, I was born before those date.
Yes, I've heard of those.
I'm a nerd that used to be fat as hell but now rides a motorcycle and can dead lift your morbidly obese mom (if she is).
No money for kick *** marriage ceremony (yet), really long relationship (almost 5 years).
You mean I shouldn't save for a house and help my parents with the mortgage? Instead I should make a financially stupid decision, make some babies and give them a horrible life?

With relation to the last two questions, this is still part of a coop term. I've done 2 years worth of development jobs before while still in school in office settings. I understand that QAs are generally looked down upon from developers from gossip but this is the first time I've had that much blatant disrespect. Again, I originally told myself maybe its just me until two other coworkers stepped in and told me he's just like that and it pisses them off too.

And with regards to my knowledge levels: I consider myself green in the software field. I've worked with some pretty brilliant people before that showed me how little I knew. I've had things explained to me before in the past and try not to pester seniors too much by looking as far as I can into issues (research) before waving the white flag.

And with regards to your post in general...were you ever taught that generalization makes your argument weak and damages your character?

what does being fat have to do with riding a motorcycle?

I am not judging... not saying this is right and the other is wrong. Not saying you should do this, and not the other. Just guessing you live with your parents. Also, I can guess the reasons. No moral judgment has been passed.

I am just saying that we have a workforce conflict between generations - it is happening all over the place and it is very typical. So much in fact, that I can almost guess who the actors are.

I haven’t even presented my arguments yet. I am saving them for last.

Used to, hair used to be blue and Goku like. Now it's just...well, shaggy.

what does being fat have to do with riding a motorcycle?

Absolutely nothing, it has to do with being a nerd. The stereotypical nerd is either a fat *** or scrawny kid (ie. grossly out of shape kid) that looks smart and thinks "hardcore" is PvPing on some game with a death penalty rather than "carebear" WoW having no idea that the very idea of playing games all day isn't hardcore at all!

If you understood the last sentence, we can probably continue this conversation....but I doubt you will (no offense meant).

if you are on a co-op i would expect that you would be treated kind of rough... just get thru it and wait until you get your first full time job and you won't get treated like that ...

so what does being a 'nerd' have to do with operating a motorcycle? you're reasoning for things seem very superficial. Image issues?
I understood the sentence just fine.

I think Marcos has it nailed, with a generational conflict more than anything.

No, I generally do love riding and working out, I'm simply saying I identify myself as a nerd but do not consider it at all a compliment due to the way society generally looks at "nerds"; Big Bang Theory, though funny, really doesn't help.

Long story short if you ever catch me stating I am a nerd, I'll end up throwing working out and riding along side with it to contrast that I do not identify with being a fat *** kid playing WoW. Blame some childhood scarring issues =P

And I really doubt it's a generational conflict when other coworkers are saying the guy is a ******; again, I really did tell myself it might have just been me being oversensitive...until the other coworkers said something.

See that's why I won't work in an office ever again. I work with guys now that have been at my job since I was born. When they're condescending I just tell them :thefinger: and get out of my area. Usually we're fine a few days later.

Your problem is you are still making WoW references. Nerd.

Let me break it down for you in your W.G.E. language if I can.

QQ Noob. Re-roll to ditch digger class because you obviously want us to carry you.

Go play hello kitty island adventure because even carebear is beyond your skill.

LOL facerolll etc. :)

I don't think being co-op, black, Asian, female, gay, whatever should be a reason to not get basic respect. And besides, this is ONE coworker, not the world I'm bothered about.
