The basic gopro3 is cheaper than that. No point in getting anything other than a 3 unless you get some killer deal.
i picked up the fs deal. can't complain with the price, altho it would have been nice to have the wifi built in so I could run a battery backpack, but i'm already dreaming up ways of keeping this thing charged on the bike.

Just get a skeleton case for it. Just don't forget to change it up when it starts to rain.
Were there more available? I saw that the deal goes on into January...
Remember that the GoPro HD Hero2 is better than the GoPro HD Hero3 White iirc -- not sure why they do this. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the basic hierarchy of GoPros currently is (from best to worst):
- GoPro HD Hero3 Black Edition
- GoPro HD Hero3 Silver Edition*
- GoPro HD Hero2*
- GoPro HD Hero3 White Edition
* = both use the same sensor so image quality should be near identical, however the Hero3 Silver is thinner, uses MicroSDHC vs SDHC, and has the WiFi Backpack essentially built/baked-in.
Isn't the silver just a rebadged 2 with wifi built in? The way I see it, if you figure you might use the remote, the black is only around $20 more than a silver + buying the remote separately.
With that said, I almost bought the 2, however in thinking about it, I might want to connect the LCD for framing or get an extended batt pack down the road, which would mean I couldn't use the wifi backback on the 2 (and the remote) at the same time. Since wifi is built in the 3s, connecting either the LCD or extended batt pack and using the remote is not an issue.
Anyhow just my 2 cents. Also my dad picked up a 2 back when they first were deeply discounted (during the launch/pre-order of the 3), so I plan on borrowing it a few times before dropping money on a 3 myself, unless I catch a big sale.
Also for bike mounting, just a fyi that RAM makes a GoPRO to RAM conversion mount, vs having to use the sticky pads which come with the GoPro itself (and in my case, I already have a RAM ball/mount on both the brake lever assembly and the fork stem for a GPS and other things):

Well apparently I didn't do my research. I was under the impression the white was the same as the hero2. Guess I'm wrong. But looking at it I'm leaning towards the black. I do find it odd that GoPro is selling it cheaper at their site compared to bestbuy/futureshop.
All three, black, silver and white have WiFi support with the remote. The black comes with the remove in the box ($80)
The only benefit the Black has over the other two is the Cinema and 4K modes.

I could be wrong but isn't the black the only one that comes with the remote (silver, white) you'd have to purchase separately.
Another FYI about the remote: it uses a WiFi based connection so you will need some sort of WiFi to connect to just to use the remote. If WiFi is not turned on or accessible the camera will not recognize it. It is not an infra-red remote that will work any time/anywhere.
Going to be the White or Silver version for me, I can live with the fish eye, it's still a solid camera. I just won't be buying into the gimmicks. You can get the same amount of control with a tablet/smartphone... and there isn't a TV out there (besides Sony's $25,000 85 inch 4K) that can display the Cinema or 4K resolutions respectfully.
And since the remotes are universal and can "work up to 60 Go Pro's within 100 feet", better be careful at trackdays/race weekends where there are dozens of these...... there might be some on/off conflict

The GoPro website also shows which version of the camera has medium, narrow or ultra wide field of view options. The Ultra Wide angle reduces distortion.
