For anyone looking for a contourHD...

Well.. I caved in and bought one the other night.. Figured if I'm really not that happy I can return it.. and with the gift card it was too good of deal.. Even if I end up going with the go pro and only using the Contour for the Video it is probably worth it.. Gonna try the sock mod.. Also wondering if there is a suction cup mount available like the go pro..

I caved as well, but I think I got a lemon.

Can anyone verify something for me?

The lens rotates 180deg. 90 left and 90 right from centre

When i have mine 'clicked' to center, it wobbles a few mm each way.. when not in the centre, its nice and tight.

^^ i think i remember mine doing that as well...i dont think its the actual camera that wobbles but the rotating mechanism.

yes you can get a suction cup mount. There is an adapter....

http://www.altrider.com/vholdr-contour-hd-universal-mount-adapter/pcid/259-11

this slides over the bottom of the camera and the universal camera screw mount can be mounted on the bottom. so tripods, suction mounts etc etc.

Thoughts on the camera angle?

Hey man look at this pic and I'll upload a small vid. I have the same helmet, so if you want to preview check this... ! btw anyone else get a free rotable mount? ;)

Why not just check the view/angle with your phone? Live view? your going to be looking off into fields or store windows with it like that.

the arai vector has too many curved surfaces and lines so space for the sticky mounts is limited. i have that helmet hence i didn't get the contour. hope engineeringjoe can find a nice spot and post a pic.

Arai Vector is fine

and here is a video I edited from a Hare Scramble race last weekend.

PLEASE note I am using the 720P camera, not the 1080P camera.

Got mine today. Pretty cool. I would suggest mounting it so that it directs upwards slightly. I did mine straight ahead and my maiden voyage caught alot more of the front of my bike than I think I like.

It seems to do a great job of catching action on the opposite side of the mount. I was concerned that if cagers tried to get me on the right (camera is on the left) it wouldnt be filmed, but it seems to do a good job of it.

Thanks Uberfetus. I was really hoping to be able to keep it on the visor (as seen on the first page), but I couldn't make it work... frustrating. It's secured to the side of the helmet now and making recordings of me walking through the house seem to look good. I'll try it out at some point tomorrow.

Yeah mine works great, I have on the side like ally of you posted. I do see most of the left side even though it's on the right. Remember to use the lasers before mounting.

Wind noise is brutal, thinking of putting some foam over the mic.

And no I didn't get a free rotating mount. Did you?!

My Contour HD arrived Friday and I did a test run Sat afternoon. Mounted on the side of my helmet and at mid resolution.

I reduced the mic sensitivity and added a music track using software that came with my MacBook. I want to get another helmet mount and may play around with some other mounting ideas including rear-wards.

I picked up the deal also, just a warning, I had the mount come off the Velcro twice at higher speeds, might be the mounting location I put it. Luckily I had the secondary strap so didn't lose it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIbn8b0c-vYFor wind noise, there is a hack where you can attach an external mike if you are balsy: http://www.bcsportbikes.com/forum/showthread.php?119572-ContourHD-external-Mic-Hack
How fast were you going when it came off the Velcro?

WOW!!!! The wind noise is LOUD... REALLY REALLY LOUD!!!

At 20km/h you get wind noise, at 40km/h you can't hear anything else. It's so bad that I'm considering returning it. I'll play around with the mic sensitivity, but I'm not sure it'll make a huge difference. If I'm not willing to hack in an external mic, I'll be returning this within the 14 days.

Same with the GoPro.

after watching a few vids, glad i didnt get the contour. gopro still has better image quality :D :p

Did you watch in 1080p or 720p? or the standard youtube 360p or 240p.

3M has never failed me YET, knock on wood.

I returned mine today and bought a go pro..

Even at 150.. not worth it to me..

Looking at the go pro, there is no comparison in quality, more mounting options, and mounts are way cheaper.
