Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

So with the cooler weather upon us...one thing I've never really paid attention to is winter maintenance for the gas tools (lawn mower, trimmer, gas blower, etc). Typically just fill them up and leave them with fuel stabilizer.

But I think it's time to get on that. Any special / tips you all have for this? Lawn mower is a 4 stroke so that'll def need an oil change. Also I found last year there was so much gunk thrown up by the blade...it had about 1-2" of grass cuttings stuck in there. So that's one item I'm 100% doing.

Recommendation on filling with fuel and stabilizer? Or letting it run and die out so it's 100% dry?
Sharpen lawn mower blades too so it's ready to go in the spring.

I do full tank of fuel with stabilizer and run for a bit and then shut off valve so carb runs dry. Fog it as it stumbles. Not sure if fog is required but I don't think it hurts.

I just ignore the push mower and change the oil every 4 or 5 years regardless of if it needs it or not. Starts first pull every time anyway. Deck is rotting only lasted 22 years.

I run my 4t lawn equipment dry, then I splash 250ml of 40:1 in the tank then run them dry again. My lawnmower (Koehler), wood chipper (Briggs) are 25 years old, original carbs and they start right up every spring.

If they have china motors with steel tanks, try spraying the inside of the tanks as best you can with WD to prevent rusting. I do this with old bike tanks too.

I learned this from an old small engine guy who winterized golf course equipment.

i love what he's trying to do , and wow that setup looks like hes 50K? in . But hes fooling around in a Heritage district , and cutting down trees (paying the fines after , like he knows he'd never get approval) . Strikes me a joe millionaire pulling a watch me project.

Oops…guy builds a massive ice rink in his backyard without City of Markham approving anything…

‘Historic’ district area.
Rich people problems. See how big that lot is? Crikey. Entitled ********* Surrounded by Karen's with nothing better to do than call town daily.

So second news media has reported it’s been there since Covid , but recently announced plans to put a roof over it . That’s when the nieghbours went , nope , hard stop .
Those aren’t Karen’s , that’s folks protecting thier own property values . I would not live next door to an all night shinny game .

I would have issue with it there were bright flood lights going at night and noise levels. If the noise is reasonable then I personally would not have an issue with it. I think there are other protections like noise bylaws that would cover that.

Noise bylaws are a joke if the noise is on a Saturday night when the police are busy elsewhere breaking up bar fights. To get anything done you have to go after the noisemakers yourself through documentation, corroborating evidence from other neighbours, hearings, lawyers etc. Retaliation is a concern.

The rink owner has shown he thinks he is above the law.

A decade ago the new neighbour next door cut down a 3" pear tree to make a rink for his son. Plastic tarp and a bunch of 2X8s, Add water and let mother nature do the rest. No flood lights and not big enough for a game, just puck practice and turns.

To be honest the puck bouncing off the boards sounded Canadian, I loved it.

Tell me how you love it at 1:30am Saturday night when the teenage kids are just “kids having fun” . If they invite me over that’s different……

Our neighbours have a small rink next door…great until the neighbours kids start launching pucks off the boards. Then it’s super annoying.

Our neighbour built one for his kids also. Same thing…I love hearing the puck bouncing off the 2x12s.

No better way to kill a hangover than do some masonry…

Good enough.
I was talking to a guy building a 30+ foot motor-sailer by himself and he commented that the longer a project takes the more the standards decline.

That doesn't seem to be your case. Looks good.

However, if you build something while drunk and it comes out crooked, does it look straight if you get drunk again?

Thanks. I've had more and more neighbours stopping me and asking about how I did the work as they're considering.

Let's just say my side hustle lawn signs came in, I'm just delaying putting them up for lord knows what reason.

The biggest test is yet to come...30ft of straight wall to ensure that it goes straight...maybe I should've stuck to stucco...too late now. Actually it may not be...
