Re: BY By Tommy boy Ford kicked out!!
I'm a fiscal conservative, also, but there are some things that simply make sense to me. Maybe it's the Canadian upbringing? A single payer medical system (note that I didn't say 'socialized') can cut overall costs, if done right. Leveraging the purchasing power of the entire health care industry is a powerful tool to cut costs. Streamlining bureaucracy cuts costs. Ideally you can not only cut down the amount that is paid by the insured, but you can also use a portion of those savings to provide health care to those who can't afford to be insured.
Unfortunately the American model, due to political infighting and mindless dogmatism, rapidly became 'a mouse designed by committee.'
While I'm certainly a libertarian/fiscal conservative I generally agree with most of what you are saying, even if on some points to a much lesser philosophical degree. My primary point about the US is that they are different and thus attempting to put in a socialized medical system when they can't even afford to pay their interest payments is tantamount to smoking crack. That would be like saying I need a new Ferrari when I don't have the money to pay rent.
