good on Ford for losing weight. When he gets down to 260, I'll have to lose some myself to keep lower than him.

She was legitimately elected as MP. You don't "run for Premier of Ontario", you run as leader of party.

The party leader stepped down and the party held a ballot which elected MP Wynne won.

She is now the leader of the party and will run in the next election as a sitting incumbent MP.

People saying she wasn't elected are deeply ignorant. She was elected twice, once as MP and once as party leader.

Yes, it is true she hasn't yet won the next election. So what? Neither has Rob Ford.

I don't disagree that the way things are operating is incredibly dysfunctional, however, if there was a Provincial election today, Hudak would lose. I don't say that Wynne would win, because it's Hudak who has failed to give voters an attractive alternative. And I just wish that someone would go ahead and charge Ford with something, so we could get that circus tent folded.

Kelly 'disappeared' for less than 24 hours, to visit a sick relative. He wasn't going to be doing anything, anyway. Nor was Ford. Nor was Wynne. Hydro crews and emergency services were handling everything and once it was determined that no State of Emergency would be declared, no one else was needed. If you want to berate him over optics, that's fine, but there was nothing functionally wrong with what he did.

In case this needs more clarity, you don't run for Prime Minister of Canada either. You run as party leader and need to be an elected MP to be the PM. You can be party leader without being an MP in which case you can't be PM.

This is why when a party leader loses the election they ask one of their backbenchers to give up their seat so the leader can take it.

Did Kelly return because he only planned to be away for 24 hours? No, he booked it back to Toronto because the media caca hit the fan and he had to save face. None of these 3 actually physically did anything for the storm, does anyone really expect them to go up in a cherry picker and fix the wires? Of course not but Ford by far spent the most time and did the best job of putting himself in front of the cameras to update the situation. Wynne's free grocery card program was a poorly hatched logistical disaster.

Ford's image probably needed the most mitigation, in Toronto, and I'm sure that Wynne's use of our tax dollars bought her a few more Torontonian votes.

Of course no CEO or politician can make a meaningful difference at 12th hour ... if you don't have processes set in place for occasions like that, it doesn't matter what your name is, it's too late. Yes, Ford got his *** in front of a camera the most, but what did it change? I will argue that it had zero impact, it has not shortened the recovery times not did it help anyone in particular .... as you said he just got his face on TV. Wynne? Well the same here .. .while I give her a little extra point for trying, but as you said it seemed to be poorly executed. Why? Again, because it's about the work these people would have hypothetically done BEFORE such event ... not after.

Before? What is this before? Before is all about durrr respect for the taxpaya! And cutting services like water inspection in Walkerton because it is a waste of taxpayer money to fund something when a disaster hasn't happened. Then afterward is photo ops and being seen to be doing something about it.

I wonder how much $$ in damage would have been prevented by keeping up proper tree trimming around hydro lines instead of cutting those services... err I mean gravy.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Only trees that belong to the city are eligible to be pruned by the city at their cost. But the resident needs to report it as a hazard before an assessment is made and any cutting is done. We have a Manitoba Maple in the back lot that grew huge. It's not the city's and is considered a weed tree and not their responsibility. One of the branches was weighing down a bunch of lines and I had to hire a crew to cut it down and pay for it myself. Multiply city trees and non-city trees by thousands and there's not even the slightest possibility that what happened in the ice storm could've been prevented. Sometimes **** happens.

It's pretty easy to estimate the impact of the cuts. He cut $1.6M over two years, and the ice storm damage is estimated at $106M. So it is possible that two years of neglect added 1.5% to the damage of the ice storm? I'd say it's plausible and even quite likely. So net savings = ZILCH.

Well the English at the beginning is self explanatory. Apart from that he calls (I believe) Chief Blair a butt wipe and a sanitary napkin, if I remember my patois.
