80 year old woman fractures hip after being tasered by police

Wooooooow. Our most serious and reliable Member on GTAM, bunmachi, mentions a meat cleaver with no references, and all of a sudden it's fact and the media are all conspirators deliberately hiding the truth from us!
Maybe there was a cleaver, maybe not. Maybe the media all knew and decided not report it (well, no), maybe there's more to the story (definitely) but boy you sure took that first pitch that was thrown at you and ran all 55 yards with it. Touchdown for Stevex! Now we just have to figure out what you actually caught.

All articles I read INCLUDING the one I posted at the time did not specify a knife of any kind. Nor did the headlines on Twitter and the attached articles. I posted the link as soon as I saw it pop up on Twitter and ASSUMED that the media would at least include a rather important piece of information, such a weapon from the very onset. Your retarded sport analogy was a poor attempt at sarcasm or anything remotely resembling humour... congrats, you're the one who scored the "touchdown"

great, next thing you know he will say the batter should punt

Still reeling from the last one hu?

Looks like you made it few hours without having to say "something" though.

That's an improvement. :)

Nice idiot rant bud. If you skip the part about fail to read and all, it's still classic fastard.

I'd like to answer your question but I can't make sense of anything you're saying, bud.

The point is you took one guy's unsupported word as gospel and used it conjure up a whole conspiracy in support of whatever your preexisting bias is.
Hey, I say she only had one arm!
Now grab that shot and run with another story about how crooked the media is, should be a slam dunk.

Damn! He bud'd you.
uhm so now we switched to basketball.
3 points from the blue line?:p

My point is, officers should tase before the suspect has a chance to run or attack. People will quickly learn to respect their authority.
+1 Immigrants should get deported if their english is ****** after five years
Dude, shut the **** up lol, your brain hurts mine

Fracturing your hip at age 80 is a death sentence. Hip fractures in elderly people confine them to bed and don't heal like they do with younger people. 90% die within a year of the hip injury.

The cop who did this needs to be charged. There is no reason, what so ever that he would need to taser a 80 year old women with dimensia and probably a weak heart.

You are correct in your first statement .

No matter what the cops did to a 80 year old with a knife it`s a lose situation for them.If they grabbed her and she feel they lose .If they hit her with a baton they lose .A person with dementia is unpredictable .None of us were there to know what happened .

A person with a knife is a person with a knife .Age makes no difference when you get stabbed. I don`t think they checked her driver license to know her age .I doubt she had a note attached around her neck saying "hi I have dementia".

What makes me sick is her daughter .Leaving her mother to live alone with dementia .She was on AM640 telling the story .She stated her mom was diagnosed 3 years ago. Then stopped taking her medication over a year ago.

Think about it for a minute. Which makes a more sensational story; a woman with a knife was Tazered by police, or an 80 year old woman with dementia was Tazered by police and broke her hip? The second, obviously, because it immediately gets people's tempers going. As a result certain media outlets (I refuse to call then news sources) will always report the latter, while ignoring the former. Generally speaking those sources would include, in my experience, CITY-TV/CP24, The Toronto Sun, The Toronto Star, and Global Television.

In the original article you posted, however, I did find this pretty easily: "According to a source reached by Mississauga.com, however, the woman speaks mostly Italian, is believed to suffer from dementia and was spotted on the street with a kitchen knife in her hand."

I'd like to answer your question but I can't make sense of anything you're saying, bud.

I didn't ask a question so that's probably why.

Trust me.

You aren't the person I look to for answers. You're just one of the lovable characters on GTAM that make it such a magnificent train wreck.

:)

Go back 10 or 12 years and I can think of a reason.....the 3 year old Hamilton boy that was slashed to ribbons in a stroller by a schizophrenic lady in her 80's. Mental health issues combined with a weapon are precisely one of the scenarios a tazer was made for. Being stabbed/slashed by an 80 year feels the same as if a 30 yr old does it, IMHO.

If I am correct cops now carry sidearms, radios, batons and pepper spray. Add a tazer and what else? A stab in the leg, hitting a major artery can be as fatal as a gunshot.

Getting bitten by someone with hep c, aids etc? Worry for ages when that's going to get you or affect your love life. Us armchair quarterbacks have it easy.

If the cops had ESP they would have known to bring a big net or lasso. But then she probably would have still fallen and broken her hip.

The real problem here is how to prevent a person with any form of dementia from becoming a bigger problem while not confining them to a cage.
I spent a day at a psychiatric hospital doing a service call. You can't tell the books by the covers. That's why they're in there.

To Serve and Protect. thats their Motto, isnt it ?

Serve who, and protect who ? the public ? or themselves ? they are paid very well, and know the risks of their job, thats why they took it.

Isnt their job also to help, and assist ?

I remember when a police officer was someone a kid could look to for help. I personally dont feel that way now. It seems to me, that Cops just would rather take the easy way of solving a situation rather than take the time to work out a solution that benefits the people involved.

the police talk about their safety, and the saefty of the public .. what public was being threatened at 3.30 am that they needed to tase her ?

3 cops, probably wearing vests felt threatened enough to tase her twice ?
i would expect a mall security to tase the elderly, not trained police officers.

No one gets paid enough to throw themselves on a metaphorical hand grenade, on a daily basis. To expect anyone to do so, even a cop, is ridiculous. Risk? Sure. Stupid risk? Not a chance.

Act a fool, I say getting tazed is getting off lightly.

what the **** is your point, in this specific instance ?

do you actually agree that they should have tased the old lady ?
