zx10r or gsxr?

Don't forget about gas. My 1000 uses up a lot more fuel.

"A lot"? Man, that's splitting hairs if you ask me....

how much more? it's been years since i had a 600 so i can't recall what i got on a tank. But i can't imagine it's noteworthy.

I mean, my 55L prelude and my 85L 540i gets wildly different mileages, but we're talking a totally different game here...

I got 200-230km on my 600rr.

This thread is making me nervous. I just got a 1000rr for the first time ever

You are looking about 200km on the high end for that bike. Its not as drastic as people think. On my R1( and i ride it hard) the light comes on at about 170k

A day of fun riding on my 1000 costs about $60-70 my 750 would of been closer to $50.

When you open the throttle on a 1000 you'll never be thinking of the extra fuel you're using. When you get home froma day ride on a 1000 witha huge smile the last thing you'll be saying to yourself is "I wish I was on a 600 so i could've used less fuel today".

Definitely!!!

On the highway cruising 120km/h my zx10r gets about 5.5L/100km, city riding goes up considerably but its not as bad as my truck or mazda 6...and its a hell of a lot more fun to ride.

"fun" riding i get 175-180km on 1 tank. casual rides ranges 220-240km 1 tank. on a 1000cc.

also, Dresden made a good point on difference,
5th/6th gears. on a litre you still get serious pull. eg. on highway you pretty much never need to downshift to pass.

I can't believe we're talking mileage/economy on sportbikes....

lol

haha... ride either of my Aprilias hard and you're going to get a fuel warning under 150km...

My fuel light comes on around 200km and the max i've ever gotten is 260km out of a 17.5L tank with maybe half a litre still left in tank. Fuel economy goes down the drain once I go for spirited rides Lol . End up getting like 150-190km before i have to fill up again. I just made a habit of getting gas as soon as the fuel light comes on so I don't have to worry about running out of gas. Still better fuel economy then most cars :D.

The 750 is a great compromise bike that does lots of things fairly well.

The 1st gen ZX10R is angry, and it does angry very well. It should, however, never be ridden without a steering damper.

did they come stock without one??

The titlle is just ....

to have a comparison both machines would have to be of equal caliber. comparing a 750 to a 10r is just :book:....RETARTED!!

The 750 is made for talented riders, it is a weapon in a gifted riders hands, it was made to have the power of the 1000 gsxr and the agility of a 600 gsxr.

The zx10r is only made for one thing in a normal civilians hands, to go straight fast, even then it can easily get lapped by a modified 1000 gsxr.

You have to look for what you want. If its insurance both bikes are worng for you, because evn a 750 is only $15 dollars cheaper then a 1000 gsxr per month with state farm. a 6oo is usually about $100 cheaper then a 1000 per month.

If you are going for abike that will bring out the best of you as a rider go with the 750, if you just want to be a poser with stock zx10r ripping it down hiways on weekends get the ninja.

all my friends who have owned ninja zx10r's had problems...second gear skipped, anothers clutch went every time doing burnouts, another guys forks leaked trying to do nose wheelies.

gsxr's are under rated, to my experience all the SS bikes i owned gsxrs out lasted all kawa, yamaha, and honda.

honda's last the longest, but they have stupid problems that never go away, but they keep running for a while. but i personally hate honda, i think anything honda is rice.lol

All round gsxr's are the safest bet...get a nice kawi and it'll last, but with kawi's its a 50/50, yamaha's are bad asssss bikes, their known for engines all over the world, they make engines in cars that are renowned all over the world for example yamaha makes toyota land cruiser engines, but problem with yamaha is just that they concentrate so much in perfecting engines they forget to do will on, the rest of the bike, yamaha are known for flimsy parts on the bike, fairings, bolts, rattles etc. even then you're only going to notice these small diffenrences if you have owned all these kinds of bikes over time. to most people they will never know the difference owning the same brand or one or two ss bikes over time.

but gsxr's in my opnion is always the safest bet, because those bikes are usually baught for all round purpose, ninja bikes are abused because they have always marketed their bikes as the hooligan bike, and honda, is stunted alot, yamaha is markets as a race bike, so those things get raped on higways all the time.

you're right about the acceleration difference...and i don't know about other 1000's, but before i had the ninja, both my gsxr 600 and 1000 got the same gas mileage, the thousand actually better when rode civil, on both it depends on how often you twist that throttle and what rpms you shift, the power difference of 120-130 hp to 160-170hp, and gas usages difference in almost none since both engines are also still only 4 cyclinders, only difference is the size of the cubic centimeters, which is the bore and stroke.

bore is the diametre of the cylinder so a 600cc has a smaller bore and a 1000cc a larger one, same for the stroke, stroke is how far up and down the piston has to move, other then that both engines are same 4 cyclinders, and persumably shooting the same amount of gas into each cylinder head, with maybe a slight increase, but again both 600 and 1000 i had the same 18.5 liter gas tanks also.

things may have changed on newer gsxr's but, again no real big difference except the accelration on one verses the other and insurance rates.

Huh. I don't think this is a word.

Really. Hrm. I have had one friend who over three R1s. His 2003 had a bunch of small mechanical problems, with wheel bearings being the one I remember most. His 2005 had two heads replaced, cam chain tensioner wore out in the first year, clutch came apart, and more; when he crashed it on the 511, the engine was rattling again. Then he got a 2010 R1, which has also had a clutch problem, cam chain tensioner and was so hot riding in the city that he cored out the exhaust. This is a guy who is a Yamaha faithful and whose family has owned a Yamaha dealership for at least 30 years, so I wonder what problems he's had that I don't know about.

Then there's another guy, traded in his FZ1 (which admittedly had 65K on it, no major issues) and bought an '08 R1 which never made the power he expected... they ended up having to pull a head from Yamaha's race effort because they'd USED UP all the other spare heads in North America for warranty claims. The bike works well now at least... actually really like that bike and the white/red Yamaha livery it has.

FYI I don't know why Yamaha replaced the heads instead of rebuilding them, but I count four defective heads in just the two guys I know with R1s. That's not a good track record.

2WET strikes again!
He is a GSXR rider, damn, that is it, I am selling all my bikes and buying a honda

Good reading all the posts and lots of different point of views.

Well i actually decided to get my bike yesterday and decided on a black 08 gsxr 750. I think it looks sexy and it was nice to sit on if that makes any sense, pretty comfortable for a short guy like me.
