Y'all might want to keep an eye out for change of plans. Stealth Covid BA.2

Sorry to hear.

Taste and smell gone?

Nope, both intact. The latest strain isn’t like the old ones and has different symptoms it seems.

Biggest issue is sheer and total exhaustion.

Like, going to the bathroom was all I had in my for the afternoon, and that was after sitting on the couch needing desperately to pee for about 3 hours but just being able to muster the energy to get up.

Sat on the couch for 6 more hours and managed to have a shower just now but It drained me instead of helping. Ugh. Blood oxygen levels are good though so it’s not low O2 levels, just….exhaustion.

My wife has so far tested negative but got a sore throat this eve so we’ll see if it’s the same tomorrow.

I probably joined the club 5 weeks ago but never tested positive.

First symptoms, dizziness, loss of balance. This led to feeling like I was going to faint, and that happened while driving. Not good. Went to the ER in Newmarket instead. Not a heart attack, not diabetes, "probable viral infection" (in retrospect, what virus might that be?), they didn't do a covid test. Felt better, they discharged me.

Few days later, almost collapsed while getting out of bed. 911. Ambulance trip to ER. Same tests. Got a heart monitor installed for the weekend. That turned out to be the worst day. It has been getting better although there have been a couple minor relapses. Brutal exhaustion was the biggest symptom.

Talked to the doctor reviewing my file last week. "Did they do a covid test"...

99% recovered now.

So while I know the sample is small, and from my understanding both you and @PrivatePilot are in your 50s (?) overall fairly healthy and conscious of the risks...

Now let's look at a person that's unvaccinated, unprotected, and doesn't give a poop about any restrictions.

We are in the 'every person for themselves' stage...I need to get my oldest vaccinated, he's just a few months past 5.

I've been a bit mentally down recently over Covid, the lack of common sense in general and politicians. I have come to the conclusion that I must accept the concept of rolling with the punches. An ATGATT attitude helps.

We were out a bit yesterday just shopping and it seems the more expensive stores had lower mask rates. I guess rich people don't get sick. (We only window shopped)

I will continue to wear a mask in public for my protection and also so the unmasked don't see me mouth the words "A* hole" as they pass.

Glad it's not an actual heart issue (cause that kinda sounded like it :( )

Hope you dont get any other episodes, imagine getting that while riding. Scary.

I have a family member (in law family) who just discovered he had bad valves (one swollen, one misplaced). And it's something all too common in my family! Everyone be careful out there!

Our local hospital is extremely understaffed with people off sick. It’s the worst it’s been in recent times apparently. Classes at the university are 10%+ down in attendance in many courses with some pushing 20-30.

“Learning to live with COVID” appears to be giving us some very difficult lessons.

Idiot politicians.
I think it was Stalin that said "Quantity is its own form of quality" referencing his tanks against those of Hitler.

If only the scientists could get as much open enthusiastic support as the people with air horns and bouncy castles.

Are we losing the battle for intelligent life? I'll check, hold my beer."

Late 40's here, and not ideal health unfortunately. Not diabetic or anything, but my weight is not ideal....and the last 2 years of Covid hasn't helped that. Unfortunately chronic pain due to musculoskeletal issues has really screwed me for the last 5 years from getting the amount of physical activity I really should be getting - it's a textbook example of a vicious circle. Anyhow, TMI....

On the bright side I slept through the night solid which was awesome, but not surprising considering how physically fried I am. My wife went to work before I was even up so I'm guessing she's still not feeling anything despite thinking she might have had a scratchy throat last night.

My son came home yesterday and was surprised that I hadn't spent all day playing Xbox...but it's hard to explain, it almost feels like I don't even have the energy for the concentration level needed for video games. Tried to watch a movie yesterday but I couldn't really concentrate on that either.

I'm just mindlessly surfing and watching TV basically. I tried to do some trip planning for my trip to the Tail in May, but even with only a few tabs open on my browser flipping back and forth between Google maps, hotel websites and, a google doc where I'm keeping all the details straight, I couldn't accomplish anything meaninful as my brain was all over the map.

Its hard to explain. This response took me at least 20 minutes to put together, which considering I can touch type north of 100WPM is outrageous for me. Some stuff comes out fast, but anything that takes concentration takes forever.

Hope this passes.

You're still typing at us, if slowly. The first week or so was rough. May take a while to fully recover though ...

In my case, if there's good that came out of this ... my heart got thoroughly checked out. EKG, chest X-ray, ultrasound, heart monitor. All checked out OK, which is good to know at my age (55). And, I suppose, triple-vaccinated plus natural infection means I ought to be as immune as can be against anything further ...

My wife got serious brain fog. The first time she left the house after quarantine she lost her car at the grocery store. Took her 10 minutes to find it.

I've heard about the brain fog thing. Seems I've either got a good dose of it.

I'm on YouTube now watching videos about the Yamaha Star Venture Transcontinental, my next/dream bike. Good thing there's no "Buy it now" button on the trader website as I might have accidentally bought 9 of them by now if there was.

Buddy just told me about his long COVID issues...

Got COVID around Christmas with all the visits and family / partying going on...

3 months later:
- difficulty breathing
- weakness
- dry cough
- pain in chest / ribs / shoulder
- 2 ER visits

He's early 30s, and typically healthy and fit.

Vaccinated or not?

Thankfully my symptoms aren't that bad. With all those symptoms at age 30 and fit, well, I'd definitely be in the hospital right now or on a freakin ventillator.

My wife came down hard and fast with something the same as I did today. Low ish blood ox and high heart rate. Lightheaded.

Went to the clinic straight from work and is now being loaded into an ambulance.

Worst part is I can’t go to the hospital even if I wanted to right now.

Ffs.

Crap. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it passes quick.

In the face of things like Rics situation right now this is small beans and I feel guilty ranting about it,

But for anyone letting their guard down on COVID right now, reconsider.

All of those stories from the early days of only being able to communicate with friends and family in the hospital through a screen are taking on a whole new reality right now.

I know some people that have been surprised at how fast and hard the initial kick was. Good luck to you and your wife. Hopefully she gets checked out and then sent home.

Sounds similar to my early symptoms. Doctor had seen others with it. Best of luck to both of you.

Odds are she’s being given a Covid test and you wouldn’t be allowed to see her until it’s confirmed negative.

Can you say which hospital? PM if you prefer.
