wsj takes trump to task

There's also a bunch of military persons in between the president and the buttons. President can issue any order he wants... but people need to follow that order for it to happen.

It appears evident nobody actually bothered to read the links (particularly the second one) I included with my initial response.

You are lucky as it doesn't impact you directly. I have to live with this decision.

IMHO, Trump is the lesser of 2 evils. He may come out with a bunch dumb statements but he will never be able to push anything through as the House will not work with him, everything will be vetoed, thus in the next 4 years there will be no major policy changes implemented.

Clinton is morally corrupt, but will get traction in the house. The other problem is that she will probably die in office and Kaine then becomes President. He has the IQ of a 10lb bag of nails

I question how it got this far. 300m people and those are the 2 best they could find? Still, Look at Canada. It came down to Trudeau and Harper, when there was a much better alternative, Mulcair. There is an old saying, "Democracy is OK but you don't want to give it to everyone"
Hillary at least understands that the measure by which government is successful is the success of the people. She just thinks that a necessary evil to reach that goal is satiating the existing power structure. No worse than any President before her.

Donald thinks the only purpose of government is to control the border. He is a complete isolationist, and assumes that everybody left inside that tightly controlled bubble will be 'good' people and worthy of all the government benefits he can dream up. Welfare cheques for all! (Or whatever gold-plated benefit The Donald thinks *real Americans* need). The upside as you said is he has no idea how government functions to achieve those goals. But you seem to have concluded that having an impotent President will somehow benefit the people! Uh, no. All it does is clear the path for special interests to steamroll their agenda through a little more easily.

Plus there's the whole racist, sexist, ignoramus buffoon angle that won't serve the US well at all.

Why do ppl say this? It's not as if you/anyone can just toss their name in to run for positions.
In Canada the party pretty much will pick you. Let's say you are the better person than I am, however lets the the riding is 80% Chinese...the opposing party candidate is Chinese...I am Chinese...the party will put me in and not you because the party wants to WIN the riding/seats.

See how this game works now. It's not about the person so much as it is their name in most areas now in the GTA.
Go to Brampton and run for a seat with the last name of Wong against someone name Singh...go to Markham with the last name of Singh running against someone with the last name of Wong.

See how it works.

The other hidden elephant is MONEY. If you can raise more money for the party then the party will anoint you.
There has/is been situations where the person that has lived and worked in the riding thought they would get the nod (did lots of political things for their riding)...instead the party parachuted someone else in because the party felt the outsider had a better chance of winning.

So with that setup...do you really think the good people make it to the top...they are shut down long before.

And the cycle continues with people asking why can't we get better ppl...by the time you realize that...you have lost because it started at the bottom years ago. The players were already in place years ago therefore it really matters not who ended up at the top because it will always be 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

What???? ?

To run for federal office in Canada all you have to be is a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old and have $1000. When I was in school I ran for the Very Silly Party in Kingston for ***** and giggles. Back then it was $180. Anyone can throw their hat into the ring for local, provincial or federal politics provided you meet age and citizenship criteria, anyone!!! Even convicted criminals in jail are allowed to run in provincial elections.

In the US presidential election its even easier. Meet the qualification criteria (Born in the USA, Over 18 years old), File a Statement of Candidacy and you are done, then start campaigning to the extent you want. The government doesn't demand any filing fees that might dissuade long-shot candidates. In 2012 more than 250 people had registered candidacy.

In fact for US presidential elections you don't even have to register at all if you run for President without spending more than $5,000 of your own money. In the 1996 presidential campaign, Ralph Nader made a point of not filing a statement of candidacy, spent less than $5000; he came in fourth in the voting

Donald Trump's father died of Alzheimer's disease and I don't know if there there is a genetic factor with Alzheimers but some of DT's verbal wording errors are symptomatic of the condition. Trump released his physical health records, sort of, but what about his mental issues? I heard a clip from a speech he gave the other day and he was out of control.

Reagan was losing it in his latter years.

Maybe we should build the wall for protection.

You can run but you are wasting your time and seriously delusional if you think you will win.

Let's start with some basics:

Run for Mayor in Toronto = $1 million
City Councillor = $50k
US President = $1 BILLION

So if anyone can run, why aren't the other candidates getting time on tv or participate in the debates.
Why only 2 people/parties being televised. Why isn't the 3rd place person able to join the debates?

Even for Mayoral debates here.
What party are you going to run for here? The party only backs 1 person.

Here is a hamster wheel, have fun.

How did it turn out for Bernie Sanders?
Jill Stein seems to be intelligent, yet no mention of her in the media or is she allowed to partake in the debates.

Success of the people!? Ask the people of the numerous African nations who's oligarchies maintained power and wealth with the help of timely US foreign policy decisions... coincidentally the Clinton foundation has quite the list of African national contributors... The list of allegations against the Clintons could be read for days.. Honestly, it couldn't possibly all be hogwash.... somehow they devoted their lives to politics AND became filthy stinkin' rich. Think about that.

Are you saying I don't have the right to run for office in Canada? I'm guaranteed that right and I ran in both the 1993 and 1997 federal election

Read this http://www.elections.ca/content.aspx?section=pol&dir=can/bck&document=index&lang=e

See how it works now?

The beauty about Canada is that absolutely anyone can run for office. My wife ran as an independent when we lived in Vancouver on a ticket against construction in Hadden park. She was 4th but sometimes you don't need to win. Eby then brought it to the Legislature and halted it.

I applaud her for doing it. She made a difference in the lives of people in and around our local area and riding. Perhaps we all do take democracy for granted sometimes.

BTW. You understand that this is totally illegal, right?

Yeah I think his point was that the US presidential elections are basically reserved for 2 very rich and very well connected individuals. You can run all you want- its gonna be meaningless.

To the guy who brought up Nader finishing 4th place..... 4th may as well be 400th. Only 1st and 2nd matter.

That's not what he said at all .... how did you do in 93 and 97?

Better that we could ever have imagined but still no where close to being elected. We got over 2000 votes

That was not really the point. I was an engineering student and wouldn't have taken the seat even by some miracle we had won.

We did it for ***** and giggles based on a dare at a late night drinking binge in the Toucan (for those of you who went to Queens).

We had a number of things in our manifesto

- 24 hour licensing laws
- Heating up the arctic to create Canada's Florida
- The 8 day week

and a bunch of other stupid stuff. Come to think of it it may not be so stupid as some of those things are happening

It was priceless getting on the Rogers Community 10 debate with a big red nose and spinning bow tie and making ridiculous statements while being cheered on by many of the student body, and having some fun at the expense of the other stuffed shirts running.

But I think the most rewarding thing about it was the $4600 we raised for Big Brothers of Canada. That was our original goal and we far surpassed what we thought we would raise.

I would say it was a good result all round. Made some cash for a good cause and didn't end up in jail. A win, win.

My point is anyone can run for whatever reason. Big brothers is good enough for me.

The scenario described is still quite likely to be what actually happens.

I would imagine it does. If a small business owner did that the political parties and civil servants would be lining up to pillory him and ride as far as they can on his back. Hypocrisy at its finest :)

While this describes everybody who's ever successfully run for US president I don't think they became US president because they were very rich and very well connected. I think they were chosen to run at the behest of the very rich and very well connected.

And you dare ask how we end up with the people we have.
You wasted everyone's time and made fun of our system for your personal fun.

You could have held a 'bake sale' to raise money.

Your antics undermined the value of politics and the ACTUAL impact to people's lives.

You clearly had no intentions of leading your electorate. People trusted you and voted for you (the ones that was not in on your game) only to be let down.
Those votes including your friends could have went to another candidate that was actually trying to make things better.

WOW! Give your head a shake.

***-D- presumes he read/comprehend the post properly***

That's how they got into and made it past the ground floor.
Wynne started off as a TDSB Trustee, became Minister of Education, and now Premiere.

Remember I told you her first 2 seats...she went on to CUT funding for autism which she ended up having to reverse her positions after the OUTRAGE.
So, don't you think someone that was a Trustee and Minister of EDUCATION should have known the impact to kids/families???
ponder that

BTW. You understand that this is totally illegal, right?

It HAPPENS, who is going to stop it when they are ALL doing it.
Look around at the election signs next time.

btw - Anybody went to jail for the financial collapse???
Money and Politics = 99.99999% Always winners.

Divide and conquer
start off NDP, become Liberal, and then when you acquired $$$ you become a Conservative.

Btw- Why all that money and time wasted trying to convict Mike Duffy only to have the charges dropped???
Either they are too inept and just file charges and launch investigations OR ...
