Why Android is better than iPhone.

Angry Birds Creator Predicts iOS Will Be Number One For a Long Time

Peter Verterbacka, known as the 'Mighty Eagle' at Rovio Mobile, offers his thoughts on developing for different platforms during an interview with technmarketing.

When asked how he viewed the various mobile OSs in regard to the future of mobile technology, this is his reply:

"Apple will be the number one platform for a long time from a developer perspective, they have gotten so many things right. And they know what they are doing and they call the shots. Android is growing, but it's also growing complexity at the same time. Device fragmentation not the issue, but rather the fragmentation of the ecosystem. So many different shops, so many different models. The carriers messing with the experience again. Open but not really open, a very Google centric ecosystem. And paid content just doesn’t work on Android.

Besides Apple and Google, it will be interesting to see how long it will take for Nokia to get their act together. MeeGo is clearly the future there, remains to be seen how big and how soon. HP-Palm webOS is a really cool OS and has been a pleasure developing for that one, but the volume is irrelevant for the time being. Everything else is more or less "interesting" right now, ie no real business to be had, at least not yet."

When androidlib claimed 100,000 apps they were wrong. Google corrected their figure to 70,000.

Now androidlib claims 200,000.... if I had to guess, I'd say there's no more than 150k in the marketplace. That's still good, but half of what Apple has.

Any word on how many apps you can install on a blackberry? 20 or 25? LOL!!!!

In all honesty, I find mountains of packages in a single repository to be more of a hindrance than a benefit. As I mentioned in another thread, when I wanted to see what sort of alarm packages they had, the search spit out over 1800 titles. These days it's better to read the reviews than to search the repos directly. With that being said, the RIM selection is pitiful, but it's their fault for keeping their repos way too tight.

Apple app store is organized well and the ratings pretty much tell you which apps to download and which ones to skim past... not necessary to search multiple repositories unless its for homebrew packages for jailbroken phones.

do i need to give a log about the many things that is not related, i don't want to. but let's add the newest one, WebOs, go quote that.
wrong again....someone said that the Iphone is the best operating system, so I brought up Webos videos to show that it is not....very relevant :)

So multitasking automatically makes WebOs the best OS all of a sudden?

yeah man its actually better at multitasking than OSX didn't you see the video?

For the record, I think you completely missed the point of that video...It was demonstrating how annoying a computer without multitasking would be (having to constantly switch applications like on some phones), then going on to say that if you wouldn't buy a computer without multitasking, why would you buy a phone without it?

Here are my 2 cents

An OS is about the experience of the UI. Part of that experience is affected by the hardware as well as software. Currently i haven't used a smartphone that puts together a better all round package than the iphone4. Other than iOS, Web OS is a close 2nd favourite or maybe a favourite of mine based on OS alone. The issue with WebOS is that it is used by substandard quality hardware which taints the user experience. You can have the best OS in the world but if you wrap it in crap that will sour the end user experience. WebOS is nice but until it gets top grade hardware it can't be considered a contender.... yet. Look out in 2011.

The only thing I really like about Android is the widgets. Being open source is nothing special to me. If I want I can jailbreak my iphone and leave it up to hackers and developers to let me add stuff to my phone that was never intended but with Android relying on hackers is the only option you have to get updated OS. I'd much rather get my OS releases on time and from the official source of the OS than have to wait months for hackers to port the OS over to my device. Even then its hit and miss if ALL of the functionality will carry over. To me that is the fatal flaw with Android and why I would never join that eco system. When the official release of a year old OS from Bell bricks your phone that has to be an issue and a deal breaker for me.

As far as Multitasking vs Multipausing it is a non issue to me (and the majority of users). Unless you can have 2 applications open and working on at the same time (which is a non issue on a phone) it doesn't matter. The iOS take on multitasking is very efficient and helps give the iphone4 one of the best battery life on current smartphones. I don't have to manage my programs as the ones that need to run in the background do and it pauses all of the ones that don't need to run and just hog battery life. When I go back to them they are exactly how I left them. So unless you have 2 programs open and are working in both at the same time like a laptop or desktop it really isn't an issue. I could see valid argument against this in tablet form and I understand that.

why iOS is awesome, let me think, how about true multi-touch via demo at 1:24 mark in video, where you clearly see 2 finger operation at the same time.
awesome vid by the way, and i also have that app that i enjoy.
which i can use music in my own library(finally).

and that is only version 1.0 of djay.
forgot to also mention, stream to apple tv wirelessly(where my 7.1 is connected), now i'm a wireless home DJ, it's funner!

how about when they release ipad 2 with more memory and cpu, and also the big addition of a USB port and HDMI, OMG( i never said OMG b4).

reason for a USB port for djay, a DJ soundcard.

I really hope they are, its the only way to keep Apple in check and stop them from becoming the next Microsoft and turning iOS into the next Windows.
