Why Android is better than iPhone.

"If I wanna go fast it goes fast, if i wanna go slow it goes slow" if I turn it this way it goes this way, if I turn it the other way it goes the other way...ohhhh wow revolutionary

An OS that does what you want it to do as opposed to you doing what the OS wants you to do is revolutionary...or have you not seen the sales numbers?

Apple worth more than $300 billion, your first iPod barely pushing $20 on eBay

aapl-top-right-1.jpg

Remember when Apple edged past Microsoft in the market capitalization game, way back in 2010? We were young and innocent, and AAPL was only trading at $249.99 a share. Fast forward seven months and Apple has left Microsoft in the dust, with a share price at $329.75 that puts the company's market capitalization at more than $300 billion -- making it one of only two companies worth that much in the stock market's eyes. Naturally, market cap isn't the only game afoot -- Exxon Mobil still rules the top spot, and we can't think of the last time oil did any hard work revolutionizing device UI -- but it's a pretty nice mark for a little Cupertino firm that would've been called the tech industry underdog just a decade ago.

Interesing figures from 2010 :

Samsung sells 10 million Android powered Galaxy phones in 6 months!

Thats just ONE model of phone powered by Android.

"More than 40% of U.S. customers purchasing smartphones over the last six months have chosen Android-based phones, according to a recent report released by Nielsen, beating out the percentage of people who chose Apple, which rests at 26.9%."

Can't wait to see the 2011 figures. If I was Jobs, I'd be sweating right about now.

What are your sources? Not disputing this but its always good to cite your source for credibility.

Now how many iphone 4's were sold in that same time period? that is one phone model running iOS. Hell its even only available on a single carrier in the states which limits numbers who can buy one even if they want one.

The iPhone is only available on a single carrier. Most people in the states can't get an iphone so even if they wanted to they would have to settle for an Android device. I would wager if you asked them if available would they have gone for the iphone the response would be different. Having the words 'Chosen an Android phone' when it isn't a choice is pretty lame wording.

Steve Jobs isn't sweating at all. He is probably laughing at how long it is taking RIM to release its playbook or even allow people to demo it outside of carefully controlled RIM lab demonstrations. What is the battery life RIM? Steve Jobs is probably also laughing at the Galaxy tab as its been made clear by Google and Samsung that the Tab will never get Android 3 (honeycomb) and might not even get any OS support down the road. Nice statement to the customers Samsung when your device is only a few months old. Ouch.

I sure as hell hope (pray and maybe beg) HP to bring out a tablet that smokes the playbook in retaliation for RIM essentially taking WebOS and putting it on their devices without any originality and then taking shots at competitors doing their own design work. The nerve.

LOL!!! Apple sold 14 million iPHone4s in one quarter.

Those are great numbers ^^^ Notice how Job's comments about RIM, but not Android?? LOL

It's the exponential rate at which Android is expanding that is raising eyebrows.

If one maker producing one model can sell 10mil units in 6 months, thats significant, not withstanding all the other Android powered models from all the other makers.

Android is on a tear, with no signs of slowing down.

Watch out for 2011.

a bunch of new news, breaking new news, not right now tho.

this is nice, where is premium guy,,,,http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/samsung-9-series-laptop-unveiled-ready-to-slice-the-macbook-air/

Samsung 9 Series laptop unveiled, ready to slice some MacBook Air

Oh yes, that up there is Samsung's new 13.3-inch 9 Series laptop, and yes, it's said to be the "thinnest and lightest 13-inch notebook available." Revealed ahead of Samsung's CES presser, the duralumin machine weighs just 2.89 pounds and measures .68 inches thick -- in comparison, the 13-inch MacBook Air measures 0.11 to 0.68 inches thick and weighs 2.9 pounds. Those specs seem pretty darn comparable to us, but there's no denying this thing is rail thin, so we guess we can let Samsung slide with its lofty marketing claims. Unlike the others that have attempted to craft incredibly thin Windows laptops (see: Adamo XPS), Samsung has managed to cram this thing with power, ports, and features. There's no optical drive, but it has Ethernet, HDMI, and USB sockets and a headphone jack. Perhaps even more impressive is what's Inside -- it's got a brand new Core i5 2537M processor, 128GB SSD, and 4GB of RAM. Not enough for you? Its backlit keyboard, 400 nit LED-backlit display, and two 1.5-watt speakers and a sub-woofer should seal the deal. So, how much for that beauty? Samsung says it should be around $1,600, though it isn't providing a release date right now. We are bursting at the seams to get our hands all over that daring black chassis -- stay tuned for some hands-on impressions.

At CES they demonstrated the power of the new Tregra 2 chips in unreleased android phones...... by showcasing games that played just as smooth on a 2 year old iphone3gs. Talk about a demonstration fail.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/07/nvidia-shows-off-tegra-2-gameplay-on-atrix-4g-and-optimus-2x/

If your going to showcase new powerful hardware you should at least do something that hasn't been done by single core processors from 2 years ago. C'mon Nvidea I expect better.

That is a bit stupid on NVidia's part. With that being said, I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt. The ION chipset is just friggin' amazing. Decoding and playing back heavily compressed 1080p over the network and CPU usage at below 20% means that they've got at least one winner.

I don't disagree that dual core chipsets handing full HD are amazing and will be the future of ALL phone brands. I just found it humorous the way the chip was demonstrated. The buzz word for 2011 is Dual core.

What I also find funny is posters on tech blogs who don't think Apple will bring anything out that will equal these. They will all keep pushing each other and in the end we all win on any platform.

What I see will be the continued issue with Android is because it is on so many different pieces of hardware no matter how powerful the processor the OS isn't optimized for specific hardware leading to underperformance given the power of the hardware. That is one advantage of having only a few handsets with specific tech ala Apple.

I still can't believe Sony put out a release saying that Xperia users will only get 2.1 because their version is better than vanilla 2.2. lol. Google needs to stop that crap as it just makes android look bad and I'm sure sours many consumer who don't realize where the fault lies.

At least Google has finally fixed the SMS message bug

You have to realize that there are very few hardware platforms out there, so I don't see optimization as an issue. While you have a whole bunch of makes and models, they all look pretty much the same on the inside. Since I'm not well versed in the specifics of which smartphone uses what, I'll give you an example from the router world..
Linksys WRT54GL and ASUS WL520gu are different-looking routers, made by different manufacturers, they even differ in the number of external antennae. However, they are both running the same Broadcom chip and can run the same firmware (with very minor alterations) just as well. Hell, even the Apple networking products are basically limited to 3 choices.. Atheros/Broadcom/Ralink. Their advantages are that the firmware is as idiot-proof as humanly possible at our current level of technology, the cute little white box and the cute little apple logo.
Since there aren't too many differences between the key internals of most handsets that run Android, optimization isn't such an issue. What Sony is doing in this case could easily be a case of Apple.. Make the OS too powerful and it may overwhelm the hardware, which messes with the user experience.

It isn't an issue of 2.2 being to powerful for the Xperia X-10. Its an issue with Sony not bothering to port the newer OS over to their devices. Its a matter of not supporting products with updates after purchase. That doesn't happen with Apple. my old iphone3G was able to run the latest iOS4.2 (minus multitasking due to hardware limitations) and it was available for all handsets at the same time. That level of continued support despite having newer products are what consumers look for.

As far as the internals go it must matter or why the hell isn't the android optimized for hardware acceleration. As far as I have read it isn't which would explain some of the smoothness that iOS has that Android doesn't when doing things within the UI. Sounds like google took the ok for all rather than making it the best for some.
