Why Android is better than iPhone.

Each user has a different requirement for their device, and each consumer should make their own decision about what will work best for them. At thirteen pages, it doesn't seem to me that anybody has been convinced to change their mind, so I'm going to go ahead and agree to disagree with the iPhone people, and stick to my Android devices.

I agree with you 100%. People have very valid reasons for choosing wither of the big 4 devices/OS's. The part I hate and what started this argument to degrade is that the Android/BB crowd can't accept that people choose the iphone because it is a fantastic device that meets their needs. It has nothing to do with marketing, nothing to do with loving Steve Jobs and nothing to do with being 'sheep'. I usually only respond once my own choice of device has been attacked for things that are either untrue or irrelevant (Women liking the iphone... was that really an argument presented here?). I have used both Android and iOS and prefer iOS. I have a friend who switched to Android cause he likes to tinker and that is a very valid reason. Of course he misses a few of the features my iphon4 has hardware wise that his captivate doesn't.

Now the real valid argument is why the hell aren't they bringing better Android handset to Canadian carriers. That should be something worth pages of pondering.

Android is closing in and moving on in for the kill

By kill, do you mean by blowing up in their owner's ears? Hardly a kill-shot, but disturbing none the less.

There is ppl that got an iPod touch, less a contract, to still enjoy iOS and it's features, and an even bigger iPod touch(iPad), that is an all in one goodness, check out djay for iPad,.....an iPad alongside my apple tv, my winter is gonna go by so quick.
iOS is great to me, wish if my bike ran on iOS.

There is a way you can measure those...its called customer satisfaction. Thats the only thing that matters in devices that are geared for the retail consumer. Tech specs, tech concepts, tech issues are meaningless in this discussion, because the retail customer doesnt give two shiiites. Your phone/computer/tablet needs to work like your toaster. You turn it on, it does what you ask it to and then you turn it off. Thats it.

customer satisfaction is never consistent. There may be a "best overall" or a "best on average", but not a "best for everyone". If that were true, we would all be driving the same car, or riding the same bike. This can be applied to the rest of your argument.

The point is that Apple makes excellent products. Only a complete imbecile could believe that a company can attain such commanding heights in the industry by selling sub-par products. Customers are consistently satisfied with Apple because they know they're getting their money's worth.

Exactly!

Of course its all "best overall" and "best on average" what else could it possibly be? In any comparison your going to get "best overall" whether its phones, cars or whatever...whats your point?

Why is that funny? I'd much rather be able to see what my apps want to do before installing them. If an app claims to manage wallpapers, and it wants permission to send sms messages, I'd like to know about this. And why wouldn't you blame the user? If a user downloads and installs a random program from the internet, you'd be pretty quick to blame them for the ensuing virus, wouldn't you? Why should apps be any different?

In a closed market where a group of "specialists" get to look over all the merchandise before allowing it to be sold, this may not be a necessity. But the android market is open. That's it's goal. No higher power vetting everything and telling users what they are and are not allowed to buy. For better or worse, it's a different model, and needs a different approach. The tradeoff for being able to choose for yourself what you get to install is that you have to be more careful about what you install. You can debate all you want about it being better or not (personally, I think it's better, but that's just me), but the point is that according to the numbers, and Android's continually increasing market share*, a number of people like it.

*This is anecdotal. I can't be bothered looking up market share history, but seem to recall seeing these stats over the last year or so.

Why is it funny? Think about going to buy a toaster and then asking the sales guys, this isnt going to start making long distance calls is it? Or this lamp I bought, is it going to start spitting flames at me? Do you know how ludicrous this all sounds. Only in the realm of computers is this seen as acceptable because there was no other choice. For decades this is what we have had to put up with. Now we are gonna have to start doing malware sweeps of our phones? Start doing virus scans every day....on my phone? I can't wait till the "Android Worms" start coming out...that will be a treat.

Can't believe I got sucked back in here...

Those are two of the most ludicrous comparisons I've ever seen. If I bought a toaster AND it required being plugged into a phone jack, then yeah, I'd probably want to make sure it wasn't going to rack up long distance charges. When you buy any product that requires regular access to a) services that can cost you money and/or b) personal information, you do your research, right?

Secondly, while I've already established that I get that different users want different products, you seem to be under the impression that apple products (or at least the iPhone) is malware free. What pisses me off most about this entire debate is the misinformation that people seem to believe.

Finally, I think it's worth noting that I haven't gotten a virus/trojan/worm/etc on any of my systems in....well, I don't even remember the last time. How is this possible, you might ask? I'm careful about what I install. Just like I wouldn't buy a car from a sketchy guy in an alley, I'm not going to download a program/app from an unknown and sketchy source.

Actually thank you for making my point for me with your analogy. What the hell is your toaster doing plugged into the phone jack? Why does it even have a phone jack? Why does it have access to a phone jack? This is why well regulated and monitored ecosystem works for tech like this. Your tomagotchi app shouldnt be allowed to access your SMS. Thats why Apple's sandboxing and closed wall approach works so well.
Every single one of those articles are about JAILBROKEN phones. Again thank you for making my point for me.

Its also worth nothing that I havent had any of those either...only difference is I dont have to be careful about what I install.

Apple is yet again the innovator in new product development, and they're so good at it that they manage to create entire markets. Impressive company with stellar products.

Had quite a few blackberries over the years. Picked up an iPhone4 and will never go back. At work every new smartphone is represented. Everything from the torch to a ton of different android phones. And the definite consensus is that the iPhone is the leader in the smartphone market.

People talk about premium with apple products and this is true, which is one of the reasons I haven't bought a MacBook. However my iPhone was either the same price or fractionally more expensive than other smartphones.

Lets say your picking up a rear shock for your bike. And you have the option of buying an ohlins ttx shock for $1200 or you can buy some new brand of shock which is supposed to be on par with ohlins for $1200. Which do you buy? Personally I'd go with the ohlins.

Having lived with and used many *many* devices. I'll say that the iPhone is a lousy phone period. Phone as in making calls and hearing people.
RIM (particularly with wired ear piece) are excellent - Canadian Audio engineers are amongst the best in the world. Using stereo jack output from blackberry to car audio it is impressive just how good the sound is.

Stereo jack output to car audio impresses you? Hahahahaha do you still have dial up?
