Why Android is better than iPhone.

Not a fanboy, just love the damn things.

In my house, apple products......

1 Apple tv (2nd)
1 MacBook Air (2010 oct)the besest
2 iPhone 3G
2 iPhone 4
1 iPod touch 2nd
1 iPod touch 3rd
1 iPad 32gb
1 apple Trackpad (basically a mouse)
1 apple Bluetooth keyboard

More to follow soon.

Is it relevant to this convo, maybe, none seems to be android yet, but I do see me getting one very soon( when it becomes available) and it's either Sony blu-ray google tv player(DVD player) or the logitech revue google tv box, both seem to be running android and google chrome OS, and you can install your android apps onto it too.

I like iPhone.....Son.

Whoever wants flash on an iPhone, get skyfire browser

The Torch is just more of the same junk ^

If you were thinking of 'upgrading', don't bother...

I've heard it's better than the older Blackberry devices, no idea by how much. Still, for me, I can't walk into a RIM facility carrying an iphone ... I can swing it with my old Nokia because RIM doesn't make "regular" phones and this phone pre-dates our company having any relationship with RIM anyway ...

Every company has their USP (Unique Selling Proposition). RIM caters to corporate and enterprise clients. Their products reflect this.

The Torch is actually a decent product, and the current sales figures support this. Its light years advanced over the old Storm and Storm 2 that it replaced. Try one out and see for yourself!

Having said all that. Rim's real strength, lies in their true keyboard phones such as the Bold and Curve models. These are their signature models.

Check out the new Blackberry Bold 9780, for example....Has all the features you will find in competitors products. New and faster operating system, updated and proper browser, very long life battery, 5mp camera, improved display, graphics, etc. etc.

Also, looking at the Playbook continues to support their USP strategy.

-starting price $399 so undercuts the ipad significantly.
-it has a smoking fast processor
-3 to 4 times faster than ipad.
-offers true multitasking that the ipad doesnt.
-smaller screen so truly easier to carry around for enterprise customers. (Otherwise, for bigger screen, they would just use their laptop. Duh?)
-front and rear camera.

Jobs says the competitors tablets are D.O.A? Sounds to me like he was subconciously referring to his iPad upon it launch. In the relatively short while its been out, MUCH is lacking on it.

Big corparate companies (SunLIfe, ING, and others) have already placed orders for this tablet and it hasn't even been released yet. SunLife financial has already preordered between 500-1000 units as an initial order with many more to come.

Philadelpia-based law firm Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, which employs 195 attorneys, cited legal requirements to protect client information to explain its interest in the PlayBook. He said some attorneys were using personal iPads, but the firm does not allow their use for client data and would not consider supplying them due to a lack of control.

Much to the chagrin of the Apple goofs, let the kids play with their latest trendy Apple fad. I'd say RIM and the Android phone companies will be here for a good long while with solid products for the rest of us. :)

OH MY GOD... the unreleased Playbook is faster than a year old ipad? say it aint so. lol

C'mon lets be honest here. The Playbook won't be going against the ipad for long it will be competing against the iPad 2. I have yet to see a solid release date for the playbook and it keeps getting pushed back. Everytime RIM pushes it back it minimizes the time it has being spec dominant before the ipad ups its game. The market is filled with ipads and most people will stick to an ecosystem once they buy in or have already bought in. I don't see the playbook ever out selling the ipad sorry. Funny how those that mocked the form factor and tablet as being just a toy are those who are rushing to play catchup now.

The Torch doesn't compare favourably at all to any of the highend Android handsets or the iPhone4. It is still far behind each. a small step in the right direction for RIM but they are still putting out an inferior product for that market segment (media player, phone, web browsing etc).

The truest statement you'll ever read about RIM: they haven't figured out how to make the jump from enterprise to consumer market, because they haven't figured out how to build an exciting product.

I think what you mean to say, is that RIM hasn't figured out and/or cares for Apples marketing genius which admittedly is about all they are good for.

They took a page right out of the entertainment industry and keep reinventing themselves. Lady Gaga, for example. Her music sucks, she isn't any more talented than any of the other girls that can sing and dance, and she ain't even that hot looking. But boy is she popular, and she still continues to rake in millions. Marketing genius, and reinventing herself.

Problem with this strategy, is the sheep, er, the public get tired and look for the next greatest thing, the next fad. Remember when The Spice Girls were unstoppable? Britney Spears?

Yes, Apple will continue to be around for many years. I wouldn't be as bold or dumb to predict that they will "go out of business" as some have boldly predicted of the RIM/Android makers. They will always have their flag wavers, but as Android is showing quite quickly by its explosive growth and sales figures, Apple's dominance is already showing signs of weakening.

Are you in the closet for steve jobs or something? I didn't even mention Apple...

RIM is being obliterated by Google, Apple, and all the associated manufacturers all at once... simply because they're creative and able to draw developers to their platforms. RIM on the other hand keep thinking that they can tweak their enterprise devices slightly, put them in a flashier package with a touchscreen, and it'll automatically translate to higher consumer market share. They're idiots. They somehow managed to come late to a game which they were already in. You snooze you lose.

Do you have a jim balsillie t-shirt on right now? Cmon, fess up.. fanboy

I own Apple products, a windows PC, and a Blackberry. I guess I own a tshirt of each.

Still waiting for my Google tshirt to come in so I can keep the Android flag waving going. Lolol.

O.K. Hotshots, which is the best Android Phone?

It's very easy to know the best iPhone and the best Blackberry.

Ok which is it for this week?

You can go to a site like engadget.com and check out all of the reviews and find out what models come soon. The frustrating part is when none of the better handsets are available with a Rogers or Bell subsidy/contract.

So, eleven pages and we are at my vapourware is better than your hardware?

Went to one of those sites and it talked and talked about what would be out in 6-36 months, not about what you could get your hands on now for Christmas.

There was an HTC in Radio Scrap, oops The Source, was wondering if it was any good?

Will try Mr Rogers and Ma Bell, but the salesmen sometimes get better commissions on certain phones, because they are horrible and don't sell.

disclaimer : I don't own either.

However, respected website Cnet.com makes some compelling points in their video.

I can't help that in my eyes, Apple/Jobs likes "controlling" their customers like puppets and telling them what they want and should need.

Buck conformity, embrace free mindedness......... Long Live Android.

edit : lol, best quote in the vid.... "iPhone, the phone for sheeple"

Agreed, all iPhone users are tools. Myself included, I'm looking to get either an Android or BB Torch. Steve Jobs I getting way too arrogant now.

What does Steve Jobs have to do with you buying a phone? I buy a phone that works best for me, not based on what Fat Cat is running the company. Who cares what Steve said, or what Balmer did. There is no right or wrong to which is better, just like there is no right and wrong to the whole Mac vs PC debate, it all comes down to personal preference. This argument/debate will never end, though it is a good way of keeping on top of features for both.

After my experience with my 3 HTC phones I would avoid HTC. The hardware is not reliable and they try to make it do too much with too little. It is normal for a HTC phone to over heat while using the GPS. I used to be able to use GPS, Bluetooth, Media Player and charge the phone, now the gps causes the phone to meltdown.

And yes the agents who sell phones for rogers and bell get kick backs for various models, the one exception is iPhone which Apple says they don't need to give the agents a kickback on because the phone sells it's self and is that much better than droid/bb phones. kickbacks are usually in the 15$ range per phone and agents usually sell about 4-6 phones a day...

It has a lot to do with it, I bought the iPhone at first because of his ninja like marketing abilities. Its a solid phone but once he started thinking that he has the consumer market cornered, I'm boycotting apple stuff altogether. Minus the MacBook Pro I use. That's my personal preference.
