Reading the comments here, I thought I should bring this up - I am planning a short ride tomorrow around the Niagara region. I haven't ridden on roads layered with brine before. Are there any precautions I should take pre/post the ride? Thanks
It's been raining for days. All that crap should be washed away by now.

Give your bike a hose down with plain water when you get home, and pay particular attention to the plated parts like spokes, hose, and cable end fittings. I get an early onset of patina on the bright-plated parts, that's about it.

I've never had salt rot a bike.

It won't, but it can definitely leave white stains that I never figured out how to get out after 15 winters riding year round... Keep in mind I didn't exactly try too hard to crack the code, but still.

A young fella I taught to ride this summer turned into an animal! He did 10,000+km on a Vulcan 900 since getting his first bike in July, he's still riding and wants us to ride to the MC show this weekend.

I'm game, hopefully I wont need studs.

Not sure where you're at, but in Toronto you can def ride year round stud-free. You might not be able to ride 10 or so days a year until they clear up your street, but besides that, you're good!

I haven't been able to ride as much as I hoped this month but today managed to get my first 1,000 km in (total riding for 2024 that is.)

I also got my first ride in 2023 with freezing rain/mist. The weather had said nothing about this before I set out other than Rain or flurries overnight. I stopped for coffee in Campbellford and when I came out the bike had a light coating of ice on it. The weather (on 680 news) was then talking about freezing rain or mist in Northern York and Durham counties. The temperature was bouncing between +1 and 0⁰ c. I headed down closer to lake Ontario and the temperature went up to +2 and the precipitation largely stopped.

When I started heading up the oak ridges moraine on Sinco the temperature stated dropping and near Port Perry was back to 0 and was freezing rain/must. Roads were okay although when I turned off into King st.in Port Perry I had a little pucker moment that traction control prob saved my butt. From there I just went really easy to him. The driveway was a sheet of ice but I went straight up it and put my feet down near where I stopped. It was very slippery but the bike was fine going straight with steady throttle. After parking the bike I went back down the driveway and with my riding boots I had pretty much zero traction. I guess the tires were warm enough to get some but in the ice

Anyway part of the things to watch out for riding this time of the year.

Does riding around town a couple of days ago count? Had some errands to run and didn't have time to walk to them. So off came the cover and battery tender. Fired up on second try and rode about 6 kms. Didn't even bother with putting the mirrors back on. Only change I had to make was to bring a towel to sit on for the 2nd trip so my ass wouldn't get wet.... lol

In my mind riding is riding.

100%.

A few days ago (the one before the rain, can't remember, I'm self employed so there are no weeks or days of the week lol), I was scooting all over town and saw FIVE other bikes out. Made me so happy to see my people!

I've been used to it just being me and the occasional random cruiser guy around Dufferin and Eglinton I've been crossing paths with a few times this winter. Saw a Piaggio BV scooter, I think a CB500something, an SV650, and the rest I can't remember, but if you were out this week, and you were one of those bikes, Hi!

I was out yesterday.
There was a Tenere on the Gardener with me for a bit.

The hardest core guys that I see are the DUI ducatis. Nothing stops those guys. Lol.

I'm kind of disappointed I haven't seen any of these DUI Ducatis. What do they look like? Who are they? Why have I never heard of them until now? So many questions.

...all the illegal e-scooters.
