Missed my Santa Clause rise this year, but did a little run this afternoon up to Dagmar on Lakeridge Rd during a break in the rain. Roads really wet, got home soaked with the taste of salty brine in my mouth and nose.
The ol stompin grounds. My folks place was the first one south of Hy Hope farms on the east side of Lakeridge. Used to walk to work as a towjoe at Dagmar ages ago.

My first ride or 2023! Pretty much a "round the block ride" from Port Perry to Lindsay, Peterborough, Norwood, Hastings, Cobourg and home with only about 265 km. Looks like decent riding over the next three days.

As kids we used to ride our 125cc dirtbikes from Markhsm through the Pickering airport lands from to Dagmar to sneak in a little hill climbing.

Anybody from around there should remember my folks place if only for the mailboxes. My Dad was a pattern maker. At different times we had mailboxes in the shape of a wood stove, a flying saucer and even a DeLorean.

Saw a guy riding yesterday in the pouring rain with a passenger. I’m not sure Harleys do very well after a salt bath? 😂

Like most bikes they will instantly fall apart after getting a salt bath.

riding on dirt roads after they put the brine down for dust plays real havoc on your bike

I don't really understand what you are saying.

I have never seen them brine dirt roads and don't really see Harleys on dirt roads that often. What has dust got to do with brining roads?

Well then, Let me educate ya(y)

The Municipality contracts dust control services to apply Salt Brine on less travelled roads and Alternative Calcium Chloride Solutions on busier roads. These chlorides are effective at controlling dust because they attract water from the air, thereby keeping the roadway slightly moist at all times.

this is done all over the northern ontario and most southern ontario dirt roads.

As far as harley's on dirt roads, I've never really seen that many neither

So what has that got to do with the Harley riding in the rain on brined roads?

Yeah today was looking good, but I didn't go, dam house committments and work....

have a hard time with irony do you?
If it’s me you’re looking at, not really, I was just trying to let people know that the crap they put on dirt roads for dust is hard on bikes.

But as usual someone always wants to take it to next level ********

That tends to happen when people jump into a conversation and add something that really is off topic leaving readers unable to understand how that relates to the thread.

Wasn’t looking for arguments just thought i was passing on valuable information

After all it’s a motorcycle forum for mostly that reason, wouldn’t you agree?

If you run the gravel highways in Northern Ontario, you'll find them very dusty or slightly damp. The damp roads have been sprayed with salt brine unless it just rained). Salt mixed with the fine road dust holds moisture -- which makes the dust too heavy to fly in clouds. It is light and damp enough to cover vehicles in a brown crusty coating.

My Wee has a lot of fasteners and fittings that have had salt damage from summer riding those roads. Almost all zinc-plated surfaces are badly mottled, some even rusty (brake and cable fittings, spokes, nuts and bolts). It's all cosmetic, but it's there and it's from riding brined roads.

I was shocked that my old Jeep old rotted out completely after two years in Porcupine ON. They don't use salt or brine for snow and I'm not there much in the winter to drive it. The culprit is the copious amounts of salt sprayed on their dirt roads in the summer, that dusty salty mix gets into every crevice and rots cars and trucks quickly.

Sure lets talk about type of oil used in our bike in this thread. After all it's a motorcycle forum.
