Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2018 Edition)

Snow already???? Ugh....I fly back on the 9th and hopefully just be able to at least get 100km in, do an oil change, and put the bike away.

Overnight snow for past 2 days, but melts in the afternoon. It's warming up to 12 degrees on Wednesday.

Driving on the 404 last evening in rain/snow showers was terrible. My car is still on summer tires and it slipped once. Luckily managed to get back on track.

Saw about 12 bikes yesterday around 9 am between Milton and Lyndsay . Some brave people 3 degrees and wet roads .

In Newmarket we got snow overnight already almost a week ago. I bit more this morning than earlier and yesterday morning, but it should melt away. Worst October... first 2 weeks of it were straight rain and overcast, now the snow so early. I got my hopes up hearing how this fall was supposed to be seasonally warm and that it would drag into a milder winter. Not so much.

Have the salters been out yet?

Re: Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2018 Edition)

Brutally difficult trial today down south of Aylmer. All the rain on the clay based slopes made some sections unrideable. My first dnf in a long time, but it was still fun!

Re: Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2018 Edition)

I got out yesterday. Afternoon was okay, I was dressed for it; but the ride home in traffic on the Gardiner in 3º and rain was not fun. Gotta love having heated grips.

Some +10 days coming up this week.... with rain.

0 degrees this morning.

Boxers, long johns, jeans, rain suit pants and boots for the bottom half. T-shirt, long sleeve t-shirt, another t-shirt, long sleeve thermal shirt, zip-up polar fleece sweater, bike jacket with liner, and finally rain suit jacket and winter riding gloves for the top half. Was a rather comfortable ride from Markham to work this morning and didn't feel too bulky considering all those layers.

Beautiful ride in to work this morning! Temps -2 to -3 most of the way in.

I wore my regular pants and cotton shirt with no undershirt. (I don't wear long underwear on the bike since that causes me to overheat when stopped and they are a nuisance to get on and off in public.) Fleece pants over my work suit pants, heated jacket and soft shell over the cotton shirt, and my Aerostich Roadcrafter R3 as an outer layer. Heated gloves and and extra liner in my boots keep extremities warm. BTW the Roadcrafter is basically just a Goretex shell with armour on it. It doesn't provide any insulation. I wore the same Roadcrafter in 38°c/100°f temperatures this past May in Mississippi (with less under it of course!) If you have overpants and a jacket that stops the wind you should be able to do the same without all the layers.

Cycling in this morning, i dug up an old, brand new pair, of gloves my father in law had gotten for me and motorcycle riding in this weather. There was no protection on them so i never used them. Man am i glad i remembered i had those, my hands have never been this toasty under 5 degrees.

I over layered the upper body though and ended up a sweaty mess

I’m stuck at work watching my FB riding friends posting photos of them out riding. And listening to bikes pass by.

May ride this evening after work. Still an hour of daylight at least and the temps look like they’ll hold somewhat.
