Who's still riding? (Fall 2016 / Winter 2017 edition)

this is my first winter as a rider. damn i rode in to work today and everything was completely fine EXCEPT my hands. i have a pair of regular but thin cotton gloves underneath my normal (but thin) motorcycle gloves and they were freezing as ****. gonna have to get something better. in about 20 minutes i could barely feel my hands.
Heated grips. Best invention ever!

I hear they are still only partially effective, as your hands and palms might be warm, but your fingers, and tips will still be frozen

I'm done. Friday was the last ride. Salt and brine are out on the roads now so I have no desire to expose the bike or
myself to that. Time to take it apart and check her over good so its ready to go for next spring.

Heated grips do squat when you're in stop and go and constantly on the clutch and brake. I also found my palms would get warm, but the back of my hands cold. Some form of wind protection like Barkbusters helped, but gloves might be a better solution.

To be fair, I have heated grips, bark busters, velocity heated gloves and gears genx3 heated glove liners, the hands are good. I also have a full sleeve gears genx3 heated jacket liner and a velocity heated vest. I can ride in pretty cool weather lol.

I have heated glove liners as well I used on the CBF ..better than heated grips but hard to get gloves that will fit over them

I winterized the bike last Tuesday (Nov15), then did an oil change on the truck and got my ski equipment in order for the quickly approaching ski season.

Once it's below freezing with snow, ice and salt, it's best to just park the bike and look for other forms of outdoor entertainment. Tomorrow is ski lift operation refresher and chair lift evacuation practice at Hockley. Bring on winter!

A bit chilly, with little icy puddles at the gas station. Roads were mostly dry, except a good old-fashioned broken water main! Bubbling proudly across the pavement and not a city employee in sight. On the upside, all the private telecom trucks were properly guarded by the constabulary. Can't stop the signal. Let's keep on keeping on, gents.

Fresh brine on the roads out here in the Colborne - Trenton corridor. I guess they're preparing for the forecasted 1CM snowmageddon overnight tonight.

I got a warm pair of gloves called Cramster Tundra back when I was in India. I have tested it in 4 degrees (feels like 1) and I must say that it keeps my fingers, palms, wrist, all nice and warm! Something you could check...

Forget about riding north of Old School Rd towards the Escarpment. Salt and snow on slippery roads. Much worse up the hill. Saturday looks good for temps.

Or maybe they're prepping for icing and freezing-rain conditions as the temp hovers near 0oC.

My season may be over. North of Burlington there's salt brine soaked roads everywhere on Wednesday morning and last night had a salt truck go by twice.

Most people don't quit until the salt truck goes by three times.

You should invest in a battery tender, theyre on sale at home depot last i checked going for 35$ (a steal as i paid more for my'n)

Yup, I have got a Motomaster Eliminator. Got it for $23 on a sale in Canadian Tire last month....haha :)
Now, I'm just trying to hack through my building's power supply in my underground parking to hook the tender. There has to be a way to get a power cable connect in there... If that fails, I'll have to get the battery upstairs and hooked on the tender.

Just the hard core crowd. Don't forget the casual riders who put their bikes away in late September when the daily average temps dropped below 20. ;)

I'm still praying that it rains more today and tomorrow and all the salt is washed away from the streets by Saturday :), latest Sunday ;)

I was a beast my first handful of years, I rode wherever whenever, cold was never really an issue. I worked at the Under Armour store and accumulated a vast collection of cold weather base layer and never really required electric gear. Riding around 0 degrees was never a problem, I'd ride an hour or so, get the hands and feet warmed up with a quick stop and keep on going. A ride was a proper ride not just some 'cruise' around town. Nowadays I really have to get myself excited to want to get dressed and get out. I've almost become a pussy, I guess that happens when you're older.

Some pictures from the glory days...
