Who's still riding? (Fall 2016 / Winter 2017 edition)

Emptied the tank by wandering around and going nowhere in particular.

Me too. Random subdivisions and sidestreets. Went for a ride yesterday and I made it a goal to not put my feet down for as long as I could, rode around for about half an hour in town just whippin' through side streets. Not too impressive on a highway or something but my town is full of lights and traffic, I thought I did pretty good!

I may have emptied a few more tanks of fuel recently. ;)

I filled up with ethanol free and hit it with the stabilizer at the end of the last ride, however. I think the end is nigh...no forecasted days above 5 degrees for the rest of the month, and that one 5 degree day is forecasted to rain. Aside from that, 2..3...4 degrees.

(sigh)

Well, here's hoping for a freak warm day in December.

I, for one, am glad the dark cold days are once again upon us. I need a new front tire installed (protruding knob) and I welcome this 6 month window of opportunity.

lol, had the same thought yesterday looking at my rear Avon. It had a good run though, 13,000kms deep and prolly a half mm left before hitting the wear bars. Woulda been replaced already had I not been broke.

I commute to work until the snow flies. (44km rtn, most via 401)

Brr. I was out late at night a few days ago during the full/super moon period, it was about 4-5 degrees and without the sun to heat me up I was getting chilled. The cold doesn't bother me that much usually, but on that night with the dampness from the temp dropping below the dewpoint, I crossed the line into discomfort.

Had it been daytime with some sun I'd have been fine even at the same temps, but night riding in damp weather really sucks the heat right out of you.

It was eerily quiet but the moon was so bright that I could see the road for Kilometers ahead. iPhone photos don't do it justice at all, but it was nice (albeit chilly) riding.

...i hate winter

-1 ...feels like -10 ...even smells like winter....and a smattering of snow - wind in the 40 kph gusting to 60 ...can we say hypothermia weather :(

Thx...like I said, it was so much cooler in real life, I could make out the corn still standing in farmers fields, trees swaying in the wind at the top of the hill...it was really quite bright out in the middle of nowhere at that moment, away from the city lights which is why I decided to suddenly stop and try to get a photo of it. I tried shutting the bike off to kill the headlight but then the photo just looked like a black blob for the most part with the moon and road being the only thing visible.

With my DSLR and a long exposure it would have been an awesome photo, especially if I could have silhouetted the bike into it. One of the many things I look forward to having more time for when I retire is photography. I have played with long exposure photos before with neat results, but it's a time consuming thing to setup and perform. Here's a few shots I took in South Carolina last year while on vacation - both were taken long after dark with 60-120 second exposures - long enough that you could actually start to see the rotation of the earth in the stars, actually. (Open the second one fullsize to see it..)

Yeah...and the 14 day outlook is positively crappy so far as providing any brief reprieve for a ride. Here's hoping we get a few warm days in December. :(
