Which gun should be banned next?

At the coarse they said for restricted the ammo and gun can be stored in the same cabinet/safe, but that the ammo has to be either looked in a separate cabinet/safe or in the same but in a separate locked case etc...... So is that true or false

Using a gun safe is your magic trump card. In a safe (not a cabinet) you can keep your loaded mags right next to your gun. Punch in the combo, open, slap in a mag, release the slide and you're good to go. On the top shelf, I keep 2 loaded LAR mags, 2 loaded CZ mags and 2 stripper clips for the SKS. Will have to make room for some shotgun shells lol

They're wrong or you misunderstood.

If you have a safe, like firestart said, you can store the ammo inside, openly. Loaded mags right next to the gun.

Yes Im sure you can win in court after a live and death situation but its not legal to use your gun for personal protection in Canada. At the coarse they said the number of licensed people in Canada to carry for protection is like 9 people total for gov agents etc. You cant just wave a gun in someones face just to scare them off

I am not worried about the law because I have no plans to use it for that, I am 33 and I made it this far without a gun....I dont "need" a gun I want one for sport shooting. Not even sure how I feel about hunting yet, because I dont eat game meat I dont have any real interest in killing animals...

Rubbish. Read s.34 of the CCC;
http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-46/page-13.html#h-9

That being said when some people get hit, they dont hit back its just not in them.

Simply not an option in the situation being discussed here; it's a potential life and death situation.

Then the gov should do a better job of regulating what they teach you at the coarse, they touched on personal protection many times and made it clear it is illegal to use a gun for protection. The instructor even said if someone breaks into your home you are better off to hit them with the gun then shoot them....They didn't have any legal documentation but they did say many many times over the weekend that its illegal and should never be done...People brought up the same things you guys are about cases where people did use a firearm in a life threatening situation....I think many people go into this thinking firearams are to be used for protection in Canada

How can you speak for me or anyone else on this? You dont know what I would do in the situation discussed, I dont even know what I would do.....

Your not planning for a zombie war are you

Nope, but I have sporting implements that can be used if the "zombies" come knockin' (and only zombies as per my licensing interview)

Mostly going on a retired cop buddy's advice that if you have a gun in the house, you should have ammo for it ready to use (within a legal storage scenario). When he loaned me his shotgun for dryfire practice, he made sure to give me a box of shells "just in case" (just in case I needed to go to the range and pattern it, of course ).

Ok well I dont own any firearms yet so I would take you up on your offer, I can pay for food and ammo for the day, and if your interested you can try some of my toys. Motorcycles not guns but just as deadly, and in the wrong hands even more so LOL

Maybe the instructors are mandated by our idiot RCMP/CFO overlords to spew that nonsense to students for mental conditioning.

The criminal code makes no mention on specific types of force you can use in self-defense. It's up to you to use your common sense and best judgement in any given situation. Personally I'd prefer to be armed, just in case.. as a final resort.

I'll contribute toys to a BRRC outing. Have a G17 you can try.

Lol toys for toys would sound good. No worries about the food/ammo :) Probably easiest to set it up for an evening shoot if a league wraps up early, we should still have solid 3-4hrs on the line. More than enough time to try out the toys and check out the club. PM me your coordinates and I'll ask around the club to see which leagues like to bail early. In general, we'd need to meet at my place about 30min before leaving so I can run you through "making safe" (kinda like PROVE but without looking down the bore) any of the guns we'll be shooting and over the basic range safety rules. All you'd need to bring (or tell me if you don't have any of the items) would be:

-Ear plugs (I got plenty to spare)
-Ear muffs (I got spares that I wipe down with alcohol every time they get loaned out)
-Safety glasses (the ones you wear around the shop are fine, I got a slightly scratched up but good enough spare pair in my range bag)

In a life or death situation, doing nothing can mean death. Argue the point all you will, but doing nothing should NEVER be an option in that situation.

Some people are born predator or prey. I don't think I'm prey

Pretty sure we don't have that right. A home invasion alone is not a life threatening event.

Because people are not homes.

?????

Have you ever stopped to consider that maybe you have balls of steel?

Any pros in the house that can confirm this (having the right to shoot intruders regardless of the threat to life)?

34. (1) Every one who is unlawfully assaulted without having provoked the assault is justified in repelling force by force if the force he uses is not intended to cause death or grievous bodily harm and is no more than is necessary to enable him to defend himself.
(2) Every one who is unlawfully assaulted and who causes death or grievous bodily harm in repelling the assault is justified if
(a) he causes it under reasonable apprehension of death or grievous bodily harm from the violence with which the assault was originally made or with which the assailant pursues his purposes; and
(b) he believes, on reasonable grounds, that he cannot otherwise preserve himself from death or grievous bodily harm.

This is the same government that pisses away billions of dollars and then claims that they "accidentally" deleted emails with all the details...

There is numerous cases you can look up.... including a homeowner being found innocent of killing a cop that was part of a raid on his home... that he "perceived" as being an intruder.
That he "perceived" as being a threat to his life, is the more likely justification.

If there were no guns this wouldn't have happened. Probably got it from underneath his dads pillow or by the cookie jar.

Now, before the gun nuts bring up the hunting argument or other rationalizations remember, this could happen in Canada with a hunting rifle... and people could get hurt.

You better be careful calling any specific person by name a "gun nut." Some one could sue you in front of the Ontario human rights tribunal.

This story strikes close to home as I used to work in the mineral exploration sector.. I know that all of our camps had an armed bear-chaser. May the victim RIP and my condolences go out to the family, friends and coworkers.

Bear attack at Suncor site kills 1 worker

A Suncor employee has been killed by a bear at the company’s Oil Sands base, 25 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alta.

The RCMP say they were called just after 2 p.m. MT Wednesday after receiving reports of a large, male black bear attacking and killing a worker at the Suncor base camp.

The female worker was declared dead on the scene.

RCMP members shot and killed the male bear, who was still in the area when they arrived.

Too many citiots fail to see the risks that workers and livestock in our country's 2 most important sectors - farming and natural resources - face from dangerous predators.

I get calls from farmers asking me to come out and get rid of Coyotes that are taking out livestock.
Last year the GFs parents HAD a Coyote that was being overly bold and was seen literally at the back door. Until I received a phone call and looked after the issue.
Up here we have bears walking the streets, Coyotes in the back yard. And there is no doubt Mountain Lions roaming around not too far outside of the GTA.
I don't fear animals, but that's because unless I'm on the mountain bike I'm usually armed when I'm in the bush lol.

It's kinda wrong to classify bears as predators to us. Maybe the grizzly. If you keep granola bars properly sealed they leave you alone.

Lol, explain that to the typical citiot who hasn't seen a bush outside of his hipster-chick girlfriend's crotch
