What's Your Temperature Cut-Off For Riding?

I ride until snow pretty much.. heated grips are great but definitely I'm in the market for something more.. I'm really considering those Gerbing heated liner gloves however I really don't feel comfortable buying anything like that without being able to try them on and then putting my current gloves on over top..

Is there any local retailer that stocks Gerbing heated gear?

Thanks. Depending on the bodywork it could work for many. I've got some extra sheets if anyone wants a couple.

I've even used half a windshield washer bottle strapped to the bars on my naked bike in the past. Blue ones. Looked like the Barkbuster covers until you looked close. :D

That's brilliant McGuivering Riceburner. Two windshield washers jugs, and two hose clamps, slice a piece of garden hose to protect your bars from scratches, trim windshield washer jugs as needed. Total cost $2.00 Was the plastic thick enough or was it warping in the wind?

It was back in the late 80s. IIRC, they held up fine as most of the use that year was in town commuting. I think they were big enough to attach to the bars and then to the end of the grips. If I was to do something like that now, I'd find some pliable metal strip and have a backing like the Barkbusters....then attach the bottles to it.

You should throw a patent on your clear guards! What about GoPro's suction-cups...attaching them to the sides of the birdcage? The only problem I foresee is the temp change freezing the rubber of the suction-cup. But people swear by them and stay they stick. This is something I would like to try as its convenient and you don't have to drill or use self-tapping screws into the fairing.

Rode on Monday with the gopro suction on the wind shield. I was worried about the cold as well but it stayed on good:)

Yeah what a day - bike showed 21 ambient temp on the way to the Shed - !!! stopped and stripped off a few layers - no gloves jacket wide open the rest of the way.
Even now ti's 14 out....more please :D

The weather has been phenominal. Normally I am not removing layers this time of year, but out went the liner, out went the warmer gloves. Grip warmers off, visor open. Could not ask for better November weather.

I ordered a set of hippo hands http://www.hippohands.com/ they arrived yesterday. I tried them out this morning. I would say they make a huge difference. With my grip heaters my hands were hot. Without them my grip heaters were warm at best. I also purchased their fork gaiters.

-5 on my way in to work this morning! Beautiful clear morning.. no bugs!

..Tom

Rode in this morning, well all week... will continue until first sight of snow on the ground...every day this week was awesome can't believe some have shut down for the season.

Only complaint is today my finger tips were freezing...I gotta get some better gloves or liners...my palms are alright but my finger tips feel like they're dead, sometime at light I gotta rip my glove and liner off and rub them.....to ensure they'll function till the next light...seriously gonna make a trip to royal distributes tomorrow to see what they have...

Rode for about 20 minutes at 5:30am this morning. Phone said the current temperature was -1C. When I got in my car an hour later the temp display said -3C. Pretty chilly.

A pair of these under your current glove set up will buy you more time before your hands get too cold

Also when you're fiddling around getting ready to ride they will keep your hands warm before putting on your riding gloves.

Your right...beautiful clear sunny morning.
I finally got a couple "WTF?" looks on the freeway today.
I got those last winter when I was out on my bike when there was snow on the ground. Lots of smart *** comments about how maybe it's time to put the bike away for the winter (I think it was actually at the beginning of spring). I think it was +4C that day. It wasn't bad at all actually. I stopped at Starbucks for a coffee and it was packed so I sat outside to have it. That got funny looks, too.
