What rifle should I buy?

For birds and upland game, and overall bad-assery and good time, look at the Stoeger doubles. They're small and take down to parts smaller than 20".

I shot some skeet alongside a guy with a short Stoeger double in Oshawa last summer and he was cleaning up like nobodies business. The Coach Gun Supreme has threaded barrels.

A Mk II would probably go a foot over what you're looking for. 10/22 is a reliable platform. Not as accurate but you're making compromises due to size anyway.

I'd love a double barrel hinge action -- they are the cat's ***. They can be a little pricey though, and I worry that that model's short barrel won't be an all around gun that I need.

BIL is offering to sell me a Rem 870 with two barrels -- one 28" for geese, and one rifled barrel for deer hunting.

Those Stoegers are only $500-600... in fact there's a few nice ones at the CGN classifieds for around $500.

A 20" barrel goes a long way with removable chokes... but if its gonna be your only gun then you'll probably be better served with a pump and multiple barrels. I suppose an 870 or 500/590 with a shorter than 28" barrel would still break down to backpack-size.

But who owns only ONE gun?! ;)

Yeah, definitely won't be my only gun, but for now might be my only shotgun.
Like most, I don't have unlimited funds... so I am thinking about starting with around $500 for a shotgun with two barrels, $300 to $400 for a takedown 22LR, and later on might either get an sks or savage axis 223 or something for range fun or hunting in a wma further north.

thread resurrection for sure, but I couldn't resist posting what I did with my Norinco M305:

Nice one BB.. My first black rifle will either be an AR or a Norc T97 if it comes out within a reasonable amount of time. When I go for a .308 platform, it'll be a 700 with all the goodies and optics that cost more than everything else put together, but my marksmanship is nowhere near good enough to justify something like that.. Barely outgrowing the SKS lol

I'm done with restricteds... Just not interested in being in their bs databases and registries any more now that the LGR is gone.

Its more about club memberships, storage rules and ATTs... not to mention retarded transfer times and procedures just to buy a firearm.

And they may know you have a PAL but it ends there.

Been there, done that. Nothing worse than having cool **** you need permission to take anywhere, not to mention inability to shoot wherever you please.

I had a number of ARs and really like the platform, but there's always XCRs, Tavors, and Swiss Arms. A little more upfront $$$ but lots more freedom.

that Norinco I posted is non-restricted. 7.62 NATO.
$460 for the base gun.

Great platform, too.. The only Norcs I'd consider would be the M305, CQ and 1911

the CQ is an awesome deal, as is there SigP226 clone (NP22?)

As for the M305, if you're going to get one, i'd suggest the longer 22" barreled versions from Lever Arms. They seem to be put together better than the recent batch of 18.5" barreled versions

As I said, in .308, it'll be a 700, to be used for precision shooting.. In semi-auto, I'll stick with .223rem, 7.62x39 and possibly 6.5 Grendel

Nice looking build there.

Where did you pick up the NM front sight?

Whats the point of that magpul front grip when its just barely ahead of the mag? I thought you'd want a further reach for better control of the muzzle. And a cheek riser without optics? Gotta say it: tacticool. :)

You go too far forward and you introduce fatigue. As for the cheek riser, there's obviously a rail there, so it's quite possible that he hasn't mounted the scope/reddot yet

Ordered directly from Springfield Armory

It feels better in my hand there. I dont like holding the AFG closer to the muzzle where others seem to like to hold it.

I LIKE tacticool! The more bubba, the better! 8)

Actually the scope is on another rifle right now. Couldn't be bothered to move it over for this pic
