What rifle should I buy?

You go too far forward and you introduce fatigue. As for the cheek riser, there's obviously a rail there, so it's quite possible that he hasn't mounted the scope/reddot yet

My C7/C8 shooting stance, I use the mag housing. I take off the forward grips because they are too far forward for me, even if they are as far back as possible. The "know it all" range safety officers that "instruct" our shoots always ***** and moan about my stance, that I don't use the forward grips because "that's how it's supposed to be". My first rule of shooting is that I must be relaxed and comfortable. I'm 5'7" so I have a more compact stance and that's where I'm comfortable. Getting near perfect test scores usually shuts them up though.

Not sure what my next gun is gonna be. Might be a .22LR for a fun, cheap to shoot rifle to work on my consistency and get the GF shooting, but an SKS would be fun to take and make a black gun out of.

I keep saying I'll stop at 4, but I have this feeling that it won't!

For me, a foregrip helps, especially when shooting a longer string, really cuts down on the fatigue as I don't use a sling for now, but I'm a bit (not a lot) bigger. I guess it's enough to count when it comes to foregrips. All I wanted was one gun, and now I know I'll be pushing somewhere in the 10 range lol

2xSKS - 1 is on the project bench and 1 is down for repairs (waiting for the replacement bolt)
1xSavage Mk II G - great beginner bolt-action target .22 (got her scoped)

Future acquisitions:
For 3-gun - Poodle shooter (T97 or Norc CQ), Shadow, 870
For precision marksmanship, ORA stuff, there'll definitely be a 700 with all the goodies.. And if I decide to go with 338LM once I've become proficient with .308, well, that's #8

Might get a wheel gun for PPC and what if I get into cowboy action shooting? That's 3 more right there and then.. And what if I decide to get into trap (it's FUN) and the 870 just isn't cutting it?

Once I get up there, I can start expecting inspection visits lol

Hello all,

What an interesting thread, I have one thing missing in my life and that is a firearm, I have been shooting since a kid in the UK and since moving to Toronto its the only thing missing and I plan to acquire my license this summer. My question is, I only have my KLR as transport, would it legal to carry my shotgun around on that? I mean broken down and in a case? I did look into it once, but those kind of regulations were quite vague.

Great thread, I only just came across it!

You can.
Of course, I would make sure to make it so that nobody has a clue what you're carrying or you will get stopped and harassed by the cops.

Legally you could mount it in a holster as long as it's unloaded and you attend the bike at all times. Of course the popo will harass you anyway because this city is full of people too stupid to breathe (and yet, somehow they still manage, through sheer blind luck). I'd leave it in a locked nondescript hard case and that will meet all the necessary transport regs even if you make a pit stop on the way to/from the range. Some indoor ranges will only allow you to shoot slugs out of your shotty, and that's where it pays off to reload. If you're just shootin' skeet/trap, you might as well buy pre-rolled as target loads are cheaper to buy ready-made than for you to get the components. Handguns and short-barrelled (under 18.5") rifles involve different hassles when it comes to transport/storage, but at least you are allowed to possess them and shoot them at the range, unlike the old country.

I run an AFG on my Barbie gun. Tried it in a few positions and it seems best in the middle on an 11.5 inch barrel. Was never a fan of vert grips. Puts my hand in the perfect position and I can still operate my light by just moving my thumb.

I tell my ARSO's to leave the guys alone and let them shoot however they feel they shoot best. Only correct them when their shots are all over the place. Everyone has a stance/grip and they are are different. If you can shoot 55-60/60 on a lvl 2 range then you found what works for you.

Costa teaches this style but always says "do what works for you best".....

This is just as effective......

It all depends on if you want accuracy (skeletal supported) or maneuverability (square on gunfighter). Two opposite styles that you can steal bits from each depending on your position, cover and distance to and type of target.

My crapped up with Magpul AR.

Great, that is a relief to hear. I will definitely start looking into it this summer, can't wait, I really miss it. It would just be skeet for sure, not really interested in target shooting especially with a shotgun :)

Cheers guys!

*** from DualSportPlus has been doing that for years. Same bike. He's a gun nut of the highest order so there is no question of it's legality.

We just got a new, affordable, non-restricted, black poodle-shooter approved on our market by the RCMP.. The distributor announced that it would become available mid summer. If you're looking for a poodleshooter that you can legally take into the bush and that you don't have to worry about trigger-locking, registering and obtaining an ATT for, here's a good choice:

That thing look so mean, it could hurt someone just by staring at it for too long

Yeah, I heard it'll be extra prone to break outta gun safes and go on rampages without any human intervention!

Nice, but what is it?

Nevermind... I see now that it is a t97 and retail for around $1000

Yep.. Semi-auto version of the Chinese QBZ-95 service rifle, in 5.56 NATO, non-restricted, $1000, takes STANAG mags (so you can rock 10 rounds in it if you have LAR-15 pistol mags or 15-18 if you have .50 Beowulf mags), mean, black, ugly, I'm in love

Seems like the Chinese are designing their own weapons instead of copying from the Russians

QBZ-95 is based on the British SA 80 with elements of Stoners AR-18 and the AK 74.

It's a decent rifle that will run in crap conditions (sand, mud, heavy rain) but it gives up accuracy compared to other assault rifles. Trade off of reliability vs. accuracy.

Nice gun FS. I'm suprised they lifted the Prohib. on it.

I know some legit marksmen (not me by a looooong shot lol) who are way higher up the list on the preorders for this one and should get them from the first batch. My chances are about 50/50 can go either way. Once they post up their range reports, we'll know better. My goal for this rifle is to hit 18" at 400yds which is about as much as I can expect at any 3gun events here in Canada and something even an AKM could pull of with a decent red dot and I expect better accuracy out of this one to make up for my marksmanship (or lack thereof ;) ). The older generation handled nicely and guys love its ergonomics. There is a video from the Philippines showing a Laurel and Hardy kinda pair shooting the full auto versions of Type 97 and it came off as easily controllable. This generation should come with a thumb safety, which is a HUGE improvement over the first generation.

They didn't lift the prohib. North Sylva submitted a new design, one that's more difficult to retrofit for a fun switch and it got approved. An FRT number is already there, so we're just waiting for the shipment. I guess Norinco (well, EMEI) didn't wanna go all crazy with the production until it's available for "sale to Mike from Canmore" and the 2nd batch should be able to feed the secondary frenzy. All in all, nice to have a legit poodleshooter that our American friends can't get their hands on ;)

I don't think they have much norinco stuff. I know for sure they don't have the Norinco 1911
