What drives you to push yourself?

If you identify with "boomers ****** everything up" and find it offensive, that's on you. I'm sure every generation will **** things up while attempting to fix things as well which opens the opportunity for the next generation to fix things (and get paid)....and **** things up. The cycle continues.
not offensive more like ignorance of youth, you have no clue about the world yet.
and the beat goes on, and the beat goes on

I propose an alternate viewpoint because I'm being one of the ******* idiots that fell for the above. Accept the situation as is. Everything said is true. But I am strong enough to endure that ****, and I will take pride in surpassing all the losers that failed to adapt but instead choose to cry like a little *****. The alternative is to join the loser chant and echo the despair....might as well kill myself instead then (seriously, I've already been there, being a loser is so damn painful and it's a mindset more than anything else.)

Doesn't this make you a narcissist?

Doesn't this make you a narcissist?

No. A narcissist is someone that believes they are extremely important. Being important != being strong. The frank truth is none of us are important: in the grand scheme of things we're all gonna die, and nobody is gonna remember you, I, or anyone on these forums.

There's a lot of philosophy, Jordan Peterson, and David Goggins in what you quoted. It's very easy to Google statistical averages and see where you stand. It's no different than playing a ranked FPS, driving, or RTS game: nothing that anyone says, aside from beating you at whatever you're looking at, can take away from you being stronger/better/faster/whatever than them. Do this enough times and you'll realize you're stronger than you think you are. You'll also end up influencing those around you to do the same.

Just keep in mind the one you're trying to beat isn't them, it's yourself. And if you do do this, you've set conditions for failure which is something many people are afraid of...because we're all cowards by default.

Or, again, curl into feta position, go on Facebook, and cry.

Example Statistics
Average Income from 2014-2018 from ages 25-34
Deadlifts
Average Networth
Average 5km run time by age and sex

I think Canada's stat site is taking a **** though lol

Umm, the baby boomers were the result of a war that ended, they weren't actually involved in it. They did get the benefit of Trudeau Sr.'s rampant spending. Everyone hated Mulrooney for bringing in GST, but he had no choice. Trudeau went to the bar, gave drinks to everyone, then on his way out handed the bill to Mulrooney. Trudeau was bar none the worst thing to happen to Canada in it's entire history. He single handedly increased Canada's debt over 700% during his tenure. But the cops, teachers and firefighters love him.

In short, yes, the boomers screwed the future for generations.

Can we not please lol

It's a pretty human thing to not think one has done anything wrong and want to create some self importance by putting younger ppl down and saying "my way is better." Everyone does this to some extent. Most don't realize it because it's too painful to accept that we're all flawed.

I wanted to say we can flip the tables via voting...but a bunch of the current 45+ (it isn't just the boomers that are gonna vote policies in that help them and **** us over) range literally needs to die before < 45 years old have a fighting chance lol

Just don't think about it; we'll probably end up paying for their pensions, retirement, and life support.

Trudeau Sr. wasn't a Boomer. He was the same age as people who fought in WWII.

I'd love to hear the explanation of this part:
"we'll probably end up paying for their pensions, retirement, and life support"
 You're going to need a time machine to pull that one off junior.

CPP, and health care are fueled via taxes. I've had multiple classes during university bring up the tax topic: "how are boomers gonna retire if the working force shrinks?" Couple this with "COVID has now jacked our debt up."

Check the stats I posted on population and it really does speak for itself. How the hell do you not see this? Not that it matters in the long run for you, you're not on the receiving end of this if it hits the fan.

@GEORGE . Friend of wife mid 30's ish just bought a house in the east end of Hamilton. $465K , put 90 down. She makes about 100k herself, drives a 10yr old honda and doesnt' party hard.
Its not where she wants to live, but she wants a house with a back yard for a dog and this works. Yes its a small and ugly house and you dont go for walks after 9pm.
But its doable and at some point she will move up to a nicer place.
The " I cant buy a house, the boomers f'd it all up" is very true for those that need a house that looks like mommy and daddies house.

This might be a shock for you but CPP and OHIP has appeared as a deduction on every pay stub I ever earned, including the ones were y'all were not even born yet.

Taxes! I guarantee I've paid and/or collected more tax for the Receiver General then any hard working millennial here.

And?

Do you think you're going to use more or less than you paid? (I've used significantly more than I've paid because I bashed my head, went into a coma, and flatlined long ago.)

Do you think the government actually allocated said money correctly?

What do you think happens when upcoming working force is smaller than the previous generation and what are the impacts on taxes?

I want to learn about what makes others ticks, what haunts them, what drives them to do stupid **** and push past the suffering because suffering is universal as long as we live. So go ahead and get the last word in.

Not sure I follow all your points.

Tuition: 4 years @ 17,100 = $68K for tuition, I get that. What did you do with the time between April 15 and Labor Day (summer work)? My kids made at least $20K each summer, one as a pool mechanic ($1200/week), one a cart girl at a golf course ($1600/week), one as a greenskeeper at $800/week. 2 left 4 years of university with less than $20K student debt, one had $zero.

House: In KW a small, clean entry level house is in the low $400K area. That requires about $30K down, an newly minted Engineer ought to save that in a year or two. You need about $100K income to carry that mortgage, it would cost less than mo. Pat $2100 and you'll pay it off in 20 years. So, graduate at 22, save till 25, buy the house and have it paid off at age 45.

$1600/wk at a summer job, not sure that’s the norm ?‍♂️

It is if you're white and born into a rich family.

Or if you're Chinese and born into a rich family, you just don't work and have a Ferrari lol

Cart girl at a really nice golf course is a very choice job, I'd fathom $1600 "reported income" . Half in the bag golfers generally tip well, tournament golf is all on the corporate card. Getting the cart gal job is usually reserved for somebody that knows somebody. Its a very nice gig.

He was in the military (COTC) but was a zombie during WW2, served bravely in Montreal. Still one better than President Cadet Bone Spurs.

BTW a zombie (derogatory term) was a member of the military in WW2 that stayed home and refused to volunteer for overseas service.... to clarify for the kids here...

To date my expenditures are almost nothing compared to what I paid in, I typically don't enter a hospital without a purchase order or I'm on payroll.

To those concerned about our national debt, :cautious:what do you suppose Canada's national net worth is, if not priceless.
Look around you! Canadians are per capita the most resource wealthy people in the world.

Very easy for someone to say when they are not at the receiving end of the marketing, by boomers and gen Xers.

The marketing is akin to a very successful person showboating their success after years of hardwork and using the internet to amplify just how much better they are than others. You know, kicking the losers when they're already down.

We ended up with a bunch of whiny ***** this way lol (obviously not the whole story, there's the whole helicopter parenting ******** too.)

There are literally courses at Yale that are combatting against this because it's caused immense suffering for a ton of us. The third lecture is literally about how we shouldn't want what last generation is shoving down our throats. Personally I recommend the course to the "juniors" and "kids" being looked down upon here. It's far easier to use this course than David Goggins or Jordan Peterson (plus the course is less likely to turn you into a complete jackass like me.)

EDIT: I should even the grounds a bit. My generation and the ones slightly older than me are going to be the ones who solve most efficiency issues using software.

And we're gonna introduce Repetitive Strain Injury to tons of people. I don't know a single software dev that isn't suffering from RSI. Anyone with a desk job ends up having it too. While I doubt any of the old guys here watch competitive eSports, I've watched multiple top level StarCraft 2 players **** off soley due to RSI. Both my physio and chiro have literally called me part of the "guinea pig" generation for RSI.

So, I hope the younger generation finds a solution for this because the existing older generation is just gonna say "back in my day, we had to walk 10 miles through the snow to go to work! Your fancy computer injuries aren't real!" and keep the gaslighting.
