What did you do in your garage today..?

Seems ok with the opener disconnected, but jams when connected. I don't see any ice. Top left roller seems to be as wide as it can go at the jam, top right roller is pretty much centred. I was wondering if there's some torque on the door as it's lifting. What cheeses me off most, is that the crew doing the garage renovation threw the brand new tracks in the dump, and left the old rusty ones. I think Kevin was running that crew.

That's such BS, unless they asked you first and offered a discount for not installing the new tracks. Did they even check the door balance? A properly balanced door should be light and easy to lift from closed, and stay in place when let go.

If balance is good and the door slides smoothly up and down, close the door, disconnect the opener, activate the opener and see if it still stops in the same place - if it does, then it's an opener problem.

I had a similar problem with my original wood door. It would absorb rain/moisture in wet/damp weather and would become too heavy for the opener.

Think I’m going to have to replace the blower motor on the odyssey shortly. Makes a clicking noise when turned on. Either something is loose, something broke, or something is touching a fan blade.

Works well just annoying and I’m 99% sure it’s not covered by extended warranty.

Nice thing to come back to…

The Ody FB page is really good for diagnosing issues but you’re most likely correct already.
My suv has started doing the same as it makes a bit of noise on the lowest setting. Can’t be heard at normal music levels though ;)

Thanks for the recommendation. I would consider it something else but the frequency increases and slows down with fan speed…then stops when off.

Service advisors don’t like me most times (used to be one).

If there's no leaves/etc in there on inspection a replacement is in the $85 range depending on year of Ody at partsavatar and replacing them is usually a 15min job at the most.

Thanks! I’ll check what’s involved in replacing it. May need to pull out some trim pieces so need the tools for that also. It’s a 2018 Touring.

Bleeping skis. Rain followed by cold has made for some fast conditions that reward edges. One kid is starting to become a competent Carver so I camt be as lazy with kids skiis anymore. Six sets of skiis sharpened and waxed. Depending on which pair (starting and desired end condition), that was a file and up to four diamond stones for each edge.

How bad is pulling off the panel? Snap snap snap?
Yup. 3 clips on the front, one on the back, pulls right off. 3 screws and the motor comes out. I haven’t done the Ody but with 35k on the odo it shouldn’t need one for a bit. Surprising how dirty the cabin filter got in that time though.

Were you lying on your back using the door sill/footrest the entire time?
Last time I did this my back was screaming and I was cussing the entire time lol.

I've had to replace a blower motor resistor in a few BMW's that lives in the foot well. Rather than have the sill digging into your back, recline the seat as flat as it will go, then lie on it backwards.

My wife was harassing me for not doing a workout with her when I was redoing the undercabinet lights. I told her to try to stand with your back on the counter and see if she thought that wasn't a workout.

Was tucking into a fork rebuild (CB750 circa 74), popped the dust cap and found this. A short length of well greased hemp rope wrapped around the fork tube. Old's cool stiction prevention I'm guessing. (Might also help dust and grit stick to the tube to chew up seals faster???)IMG_0266.jpg

Decided to give another try on getting cruise working on the wifes van. Success it now has cruise, and a steering system warning. Ugh not sure this is better, can't get it to finish a proxy alignment to write the steering computer.

Probably cotton, not hemp. Some old Brit bikes used greased string to seal forks. An old school trick for preserving fork seals was to use grease or greased rope packing to filter road grime . Particularly useful for bikes that traveled dirt roads.
