A snap cap won't do dick for 'function' testing. You also won't need one to dry fire, you can do it on an empty chamber with Glocks all day long.

You're also wasting money on "good" ammo to shoot at paper targets. I get it, you don't care about spending big money on your hobbies etc. but there's a certain level of stupid when it comes to buying "premium" ammo to shoot at paper and metal targets with a Glock of all guns. Also fewer grains of bullet weight doesn't have anything to do with quality or cheapness.

You're gonna get into reloading 9mm when you cant find ammo anywhere. If you do find some....get it, stack it deep. I reload 9mm for my Sub2000 cuz i never know when i'll be able to get some decently priced stuff. It took Lebaron 3 months to get some 9mm back in stock.

For you it's quite different because it seems everything for you relates to competition. For me just like motorcycle I have a bike for each purpose, a stunt bike, a street bike, track bike, and a supermoto. All are very expensive to buy and maintain.

So if I buy a $5500 rifle that comes with no sights or optics and put another $2000-3000 in mods on it. We'll then $3 a bullet isn't going to break the bank at that point. If I was interested in something cheap to buy and shoot I'd be looking at something else for sure . If when I do ever decide to try competition I would buy guns to suit those needs. Although 2 of the guys at the store compete in ipsc with glocks, do it is doable. So yeah I get it, more expensive to buy, maintain, and shoot, that's just my style blowing money for no good reason

I spent $750 + tax on the pistol, haven't even fired it yet and I have spent double that amount on mods already. So it's pretty clear I'm not looking for seething that is cost effective or factory competition worthy.

I also plan to use higher end higher grain bullets, people say the glock will eat up any ammo, but I'd still shell out for better stuff instead of 115 grain cheap stuff. I don't even want to reload yet maybe one day for now I'll shoot boxs if new stuff.

Snap caps I want for practicing and to check functions after installing the mods. Probably doesn't matter about pin damage in my case, because my trigger kit comes with a new pin, and I've ordered a new slide so those will be replaced anyways

Tore it down last night and I'm amazed at the keep it stupid simple tech on it. Thing strips down completely with a pin. And the frame alone feels like a toy gun from the dollar store. Looking at how it's made I can't believe it works so well

I've NEVER had an issue finding 9mm, that's weird man. Buy online or go anywhere besides fudd-central LeBaron.

There was a time frame end of last year beginning of this that all major players were either out or wanted lots of $$ for 9mm. Canadaammo, sfrc, etc.

i scored a full reloading multistage press already setup for 9mm at a gun show for $80. Basically fill up the primer and brass tubes, add powder and pull the lever. All you gotta do is pull the lever and place the bullets.

I dcided ill ill stop looking for ammo and just crank out my own. 124gr copper plated bullets for around 10c a round. Box of 50 costs me $5 vs $15 for similar plinking loads. Honestly since then I've stopped keeping my ear to the ground as to the ammo availability.

Not necessarily about competition.. For me, it's more about improving my skills. Competitions are just a way of measuring the improvement. I don't have the budget to be a top-level competitor, but with time, I'll be able to put up respectable scores due to sheer accumulation of experience, while having fun

In general, unless you get into some sort of action shooting discipline(s), your shooting will be restricted to either hunting or just plinking from the firing line, hoping you don't fall asleep. When involved in action shooting, you're on the move, you get problems to solve (how you approach that array of targets, where do you start, which one do you shoot first etc etc etc) and all sorts of different targets coming up in the same course of fire requiring you to make constant adjustments.

That's fine and it's not like I wouldn mind having a rifle in 308, most likely both an ar-10 and an m-14 lol But, shooting a smaller caliber (either 556 or baby-30 [7.62x39]) is better for my skills development and I don't sacrifice any fun factor for doing that. It's not just about saving money, either. The less recoil, the less of a flinch you develop. Flinching interferes with your consistency and the development of your marksmanship. If I really wanna experience the recoil, I'll blast a few slugs from my shotty. Got the bruises from yesterday to prove it

In that case you're better off reloading. There's nothing wrong with running the 115gr whitebox stuff through your gun, but your wrists will feel it if you do any significant shooting in a day (300-400rds). In general, you want slightly downloaded 124 or 147gr projectiles, but good loads are hard to find from the factory, so you're better off cooking your own.

We've all been there, we've all done our homework and we all know what works and what doesn't. Just trying to offer you the most practical solutions that will still allow you to have a blast

Truth is I really want a 308 but most likey I will buy a $1500-3000 AR platform 556 first, Id still like to dream big and one day have both....The other thing about expensive calibers is I would not plan to shoot the 308 as much as the 556 or 9mm. I plan to spend the majority of the winter at indoor ranges if I can, learning the pistol.

Now I need some more help gunnuts! I got my trigger kit and installed it, love the quality of the parts and it was fun to totally disassemble the gun and install upgrades. So now I want to order the next part of my build from the same company, but they emaild me back saying they only have a permit to send a max of $500 to Canada at a time. My order is $1200 and they said I need to have it forwarded to me...Now my friend sent me a link to Sans-nom.com they are who he uses to export his complete guns, but he usually deals with antiques so its a little different. Anyways Sans-nom said they could export for me, but I would need either a import permit, or at the least a paper saying I dont require an import permit for what I am buying...So my question where do I go about getting a permit or the paper saying I dont need one if that is the case? I am buying a custom machined slide and barrel combo, with some springs and little internal stuff.....I cant see me needing a permit as they shipped me a whole trigger kit and firing pin in the mail no problem. Appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction and let me know what info I will need to get a permit... Or even if you have a better option for an exporter that would also do this for me

If I am not mistaken, you are practically trying to get half a gun shipped, typically the slide and barrel have serial number stamped into them, so I think you will need and export permit, and those come from Ottawa. When I had purchased my pistols from the US, the store, Buffalo Gun Center did all the paperwork for me, including the application for the Export permit which mailed directly to me, and I faxed them a copy and brought the original with me when I went to bring my purchase home.

My OEM frame, slide, and barrel are all stamped with the same serial number, however in Canada as far as I have been taught, only the frame is actually considered to be the firearm. Everything else is a part or accessory...I can buy mags, slides, barrels, etc etc and none of them need to be registered, as long as they are not prohibited I can buy them (example shorter then legal barrel obviously illegal or high cap mags). Its the frame that is registered to me, and can not leave my house without a ATT.

Kinda strange I am just getting to understand all this myself, but I already got a complete trigger kit and a firing pin in the mail in a padded envelope. Which ended replacing pretty much every moving mechanical moving part and spring inside the gun. So why not a slide and barrel, if I was to buy the barrel alone they would ship it no problem via USPS/Canada post just like the trigger kit as its only $200-400 or so. The company said nothing about legalities of selling me the parts, they only stated that their export lic only allows them to export up to $500 value to Canada.

The exporter said they get the export docs for me, but for them to get that on their end they need me to get an import doc if its required for any of the parts Im buying. Or if I do not require a import lic for any of them a letter saying none of the parts require one....That is all they need from me besides money......So I am looking for the information to see if I require one, and if I do where to get it, or if I dont where to get that paper saying I dont so I can proceed with the order...

If it wasnt for the frame being considered the firearm, I would send it to them to get some mods done on my grip, but as far as I know I would never get an ATT to send my gun (frame) to the US for mods?

I have another issue where the magwell I am buying works best with mag base extensions, I can only find ones online that are +2-+5 capacity at the same time, so illegal here in canada...I need a larger mag base but without the + capacity, basically an extended +0 mag base pad. They seem to be backorderd everywhere I find them

I will one day, maybe my next handgun......For now I like the glock, because its dead simple and because its so cheap there are tons of upgrades to be done....Like all the little extended releases, and just stupid little billet parts that I can waste time and money on.....I enjoy modifying stuff, so I like the aftermarket availability......Buy a better gun and you dont need to do that stuff yes, but I want to do that stuff

Might seem dumb buying a cheap gun and tossing money at it to make it a decent modified gun, rather then just buying a good OEM shooting gun. My plan from the beginning was to start with a glock mod the **** out of it till there really isnt anything left to do, then move on to other brands/models....

TS has 2 kinds, a cheap 115 grain and a 124 grain on sale at that time for the same price...Lebaron had 2 kinds also, Sail was sold out they said some guy came in and bought almost all of it at one time...Bass pro had lots also but I didnt ask for specifics...

Its there and TS where I have registered as a member said they will always have 9mm for me, as they always have to have it for their guns they let people shoot. He said they will always have the cheaper 115 stuff in stock

Mostly I see Fedeal and Winchester in stock

So last night when I took my gun apart, and replaced all of the internal components. When I got it back together you suggest I use what to test the guns function? A real bullet? Firing pin damage is only one thing I was concerned about about, besides that I need to see if the gun will chamber and eject a bullet properly after I take a gun apart for the first time...Maybe Im totally dumb and Im missing something but I thought that is what snap caps are for....Thats what they were advertised as, and thats what I used them for last night.

Its not about what it does to the paper, I have read on the Glock forms, people have problems specifically on the Gen 4's with lower gain ammo. It can cause them to not cycle properly...And just to prove that the company I am buying the parts from sell 2 recoil springs, one to run with heavier loads, and one to run with weaker loads. So they operate properly with both light/heay ammos.

When I shot the gun at the range my last shot the slide did not stay locked open, that is one of the things people say happens with the weaker loads. TS uses 115 so go figure, my first clip ever and the last shot doesnt cycle %100 properly..Many people with the Gen4 (different recoil spring then gen3) complain about improper cycling with 115 grain especially the really cheapo stuff

Wont be a huge issue for me anymore as I am buying a kit that comes with 2 recoil springs to run both

I thought if you purchased one part, and then another it was under the 500 dollar, I take it then it's a combo of parts that total over the 500 and those parts cannot be split up, I get it....

your only call would be to the RCMP or the CFO and that is if they will answer

I've run all sorts of ammo through my glocks with no problems. I do also have a lighter spring kit in my 17 along with other mods, so perhaps thats helping. I shoot whatever the dirt cheapest ammo is. If you have to buy better ammo to shoot a glock, something is wrong.... it defeats the purpose of the gun? That's the sorta stuff thats expected of match grade 1911s, not Glocks.

To function test the gun after assembly you rack the slide and pull the trigger. If it goes click, the gun is fine. You disassembled it yourself so you know how dumb of a device it is.... there's nothing in there that you could do wrong that would still allow you to rack the slide and pull the trigger, but NOT chamber a round. For this reason I said you don't need snap caps. They are also not indicative of how real ammo will function. You could very well have FTE/FTF with snap caps while real ammo will work perfectly fine.

Regarding bringing in firearms parts- its the US export which will pose you problems, not the Canadian import. This is especially true when it comes to things like barrels.

could be what is known as limp wrist, causing the failure, it will cause a failure to cycle as well

I did notice that because the snap caps are aluminum they dont slide properly and the ejector chews them up. Id prefer to get a real brass casing, but only see those online...

As for the export, they said its no problem for them as long as I have an import doc. Basically if I can get a import lic for them (meaning they are leagal for me to import) then they have no problem getting an export permit.

I have looked on EXCOL but Im not sure if that is the right or best place to apply for my import permit? I would prefer a complete service if anyone knows of a place that will do most of this for me...Basically I just pay and give my info and they do all the leg work for me...Or at least some direction of how to do this properly, I dont even know if that online form Im about to fill out is the correct one for what I need
