We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

Re: We know you ride, but do you Shoot?

Burlington is a good 24hr facility. Apply for a membership now, but it may take like a year for the thing to process due to high demand. You can show up as a walkin for the safety course (once a month) to fill the slot of anyone who didn't show up for it. If there are other walkins waiting for the spot, that's determined by the time of the original membership application. If you're gonna be shooting long guns (and you better.. they're FUN :D), your best bet is Galt in Cambridge. One of the top 2 facilities I've seen in Ontario. The other one is EESA, just short of London.

Yeah the 24 hr is a big plus and it close, but just looking at the pics it seems like an older crowd and Id probably stick out. Indoor is something Id really like to shoot all year round for the hand guns. And dont worry I have $5000-6000 put aside for a kick *** rifle, got my eyes on a MR762 or MR556. Just want to start with the pistols and training courses for shooting, handling and holstering.

Im actually getting ready to drive out to target sports to do some hand gun shopping, and possibly rent something to try out today! kinda exited lol

Re: We know you ride, but do you Shoot?

Target Sports in my opinion is very hit or miss. Some of the dudes working there are massive d-bags... they act like they're doing you a favour by doing their jobs. The range is expensive too. I'd go to Burlington over Target Sports any day of the week.

Don't worry about the "crowd" at Burlington, everyone should be minding their own business and your age doesn't matter.

Regarding the HK rifles... forget it, overpriced and restricted. I'd spend that money on a Tavor, XCR, or a converted ACR. Eventually you'll realize that owning restricteds is a pain in the dick, and it cuts down your shooting options too. If you can avoid being mandated to club memberships and bogus ATTs, do it.

There are people of all ages there.. Show up on an IPSC night and you'll come across plenty of people in their 20's/30's.. If you wanna go handgun shopping, you'd be better off going to Al Flaherty's even though the traffic in the Dufferin/St. Clair area can be nasty. If this gun http://alflahertys.com/collections/handgun/products/cz-75-sp-01-shadow-9mm feels right, buy it. Excellent outta the box, gets even better after $10-20 in springs, great for any kind of action shooting, very popular in the community. You will notice that it's a lot heavier than your 92's, 17's and M&P's, but that's a good thing.. Absorbs recoil better, for faster followup shots. Flaherty's has great service and competitive pricing. Target Sports generally caters to people who don't know much about shooting and/or what to do with their $$$ ;)

Re: We know you ride, but do you Shoot?

Thumbs up for Flaherty's for sure. Buy from them if you can, great shop.

LOL thats me!

If Flahertys has as good a selection I'll go there as well, I can tell the prices will be high at TS but the place looks decent in terms of selection when it comes to restricted. My first purchase I just want a regular old Glock. After that I will get into a gun to shoot competitively, the nice thing is TS rents the glocks so if I buy a 17 or 21 I can shoot it today before I buy one. Not that it matters it could be the worst gun in the world but being my first time shooting anything Im going to love it either way

Just like with my motorcycle hobby I buy way too much expensive stuff I dont need, so no doubt I will end up with a lot of guns and mods that I also dont "need". Like a gun squid I guess

Tons of people my age (mid 20's) that shoot, but like Firestart said, you usually see them at certain events.

+1 on the CZ. Great starter/ competition pistol. I went with the 92FS as I prefer the stainless finish and I shot it better due to the grip. Both the CZ and 92FS are tack drivers so you will get accuracy out of the box.

If you wanna try out a Shadow, my offer still stands. If you're free Wednesday night, we finish our "bowling" league with rifles around 10-10:30 and you can try it out along with an AR for the fun of it. PM me either way.

Glocks aren't bad guns and if I had to carry one all day, I'd choose it over the CZ platform due to the weight savings, but for any sport shooting fun, CZ is a lot better, in the same price ballpark.

You know you can buy your firearms in the US, sometimes it's cheaper, sometimes it's not, as with anything you need to know your prices and shop accordingly....

I purchased my XD in the US for 400 bucks here it was 900, I got my TRP for half of what it goes for here, but the Beretta INOX was the same price here and in the US

Maybe in the future, right now because Im brand new I want an in store service type purchase. I was going to order the Glock online but dont mind paying $100-200 more from a local store that I can actually see and feel the gun and ask questions and get real answers. The online stores would not answer my real questions, basically just the gun it on the site take it or leave it...

My snapon dealer that competes in IPSC has his guns custom built and moddified for him, he says Id be looking at the $4000-6000 range for something that he would compete with....Im not ready for that just yet

Then go to Flaherty's.. You're a lot more likely to get people who:
a) Know something about the product
b) Are willing and happy to help you out

Bring your PAL with you if you wanna fondle any of the babies. Considering their proximity to Parkdale and some other "choice" neighborhoods, it's a reasonable policy. Btw if the NEA AR's catch your eye (they sure are pretty), take a pass on one. AFAIK they still haven't sorted out their reliability issues.

I got an RPAL for a reason, that is my main focus restricted guns.....And I know the HK is roughly $5000 and mags are $100 each, thats fine if they have one at TS Id buy it today cash

You can compete in Production with a stock Shadow, just change the springs for $20. You could spend another $100-150 on a trigger job, but it's not absolutely necessary. That way you can run Production. Starting in Open is a very unusual path for a new IPSC handgun shooter with no real benefits.

It's your money, but that HK doesn't do a single thing that an AR for far less than half the money can't do.

Get this, spend the rest on ammo, thank me later.

Do you know any good gunsmiths? I have some work to be done on an Enfield. The bolt is mismatched.

Re: We know you ride, but do you Shoot?

So you go to US, Buffalo ? not far away....

http://www.buffaloguncenter.com/

go to all the local stores here, get a feel for what you like and then make your purchase where you save the dollars, more or less anything you buy here is not serviced here especially if it's under warranty it goes back to the manufacture to get looked at and fixed.

Let me clarify, most of the time it goes back......

Dealers here have pretty fair prices on guns and the good ones should be supported. Personally I wouldn't bother with cross-border shopping as there's a small level of uncertainty to be dealt with.

I'd come in to see Rodger. Hangs out Tuesday nights at BRRC or you can contact him directly http://darkinternational.com/

sorry don't agree with you entirely.....

almost everything in Canada is overpriced, why pay 900 bucks for a XD when I can get it for 400, but hey it's your cash.....but I did mention the Beretta Inox was the same price here and in the US, do your homework.....

and there is no uncertainty at all, unless you are doing it illegally.....
