To be masked or not to be masked

Not everyone over 60 has a peanut allergy…so the analogy falls pretty flat.
No, but more than 96.8% of COVID deaths were people aged 60+ in the chart I presented & referenced.
Being Canadian we look to the government to protect us like it or not.
There doesn't appear to be much time, money or effort being spent to protect these people that are most vulnerable.

That’s kind of my point. All the “it’s over, let’s get on with life” people right now really mean “we don’t give a **** about the others, we just care about us”.

That's because that group for the most part is capable of taking care of themselves.

11,513 of the 12,574 deaths in Ontario, say you're wrong.

Rather what that number tells you is to put your bloody mask on in groceries stores and quit whingeing...
Population in Ontario over 55 and that was three years ago..it's higher now
Ontario1,787,8202,374,210
and I guarantee you they pay more in taxes over time for the healthcare system you so casually diss.

You sound just like a seatbelt or helmet whinger except it's others health you are impacting ....a LOT of other people's health. 4 million and climbing.

These guys get it ....

Other businesses have committed to keeping them in place, even without provincial mandates. It's conceivable doing so could lead to legal challengesalleging a contravention of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms or provincial human rights code, although it's not clear if they would succeed.

At least one Ottawa restaurant is going to try for a hybrid approach. The Hintonburg Public House recently announced only those with at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine would be able to attend on Thursdays.
Local grocers are offering special shopping hours to seniors.

Seniors, and people whose immune systems are compromised, are at greater risk when it comes to COVID-19. Area grocers are designating special hours when these vulnerable groups can shop together to reduce their risk of exposure to the virus.

Below is a list of grocers offering special hours in your communities. Please note hours may change or be reduced as the COVID-19 outbreak evolves in the coming months:
You don't.

You are absolutely correct. I was looking at the elderly from a different perspective and just shouldn't have even tried to relate. My thoughts on ltc and the elderly are messed up in my brain right now. Carry on and stay safe. Ric

My wife took the kids to a scouts event yesterday and basically nobody was masked any longer. Mind you these are a bunch of Polak Karens that are all shilling on each other and egging one another on about how BS COVID was.

If it wasn't for my son enjoying it so much I'd pull him from it.

Correct. Right thought is “me first, screw the rest as long as I have mine” (A direct quote from an American friend that’s a hard-core Republican).
As for us being very ***** left, here’s a reality check….. Biden, is at best, middle, not left at all. Sanders is left, and is beyond the Canadian left.
The US political climate has moved left to middle, middle to right, right to far, far to extreme.

For example, Scandinavia is socialist, and left. They have some of the highest living standards in the world.
And the right vilifies them as being the worst thing possible on the plant. sigh.
Feel free to disagree.

I don't disagree actually.

I'm trying to understand the right because I'm...confused where I stand lol

I think the example with Scandinavia (very left) works for the same reason why Japan (very right) works; their population/culture is homogenized. And I think the biggest issue with "free help" is defining "help" and "what threshold"; speaking in a way where if I were to build a robot and automate this, what are the triggers? I've gone deep down this rabbit hole before and came out confused af.

I think the Scandinavia countries are the ones that have rehab centers that let you shoot up/get high (controlled) without social stigma right? This is obviously a million times better than paying tax money to throw a drug addict into prison and think they'll magically come out not addicted/jaded/****** off.

I completely agree with your Scandinavian comments but most western countries are not in a position to copy the European / Japanese models. We've never had the unified national identity / pride.

The western theme seems to be making the individual rich instead of making the country rich.

Trickle down theory you say. What American company got to build Bezos' half billion dollar yacht?

We might get forced to adopt the European styles later. While the "hikikomori" phenomenon has an official term (not derogatory apparently), my gut screams it's the same phenomenon I've noticed with the younger generation because "**** you're rat race, we're not playing this game."

As you mentioned, it doesn't make sense to me to grind my ass off to make someone rich outside of myself right? Hell, even the country makes a hell of a lot more sense than an individual.

If forced, the cure might be worse than the disease. The US economy is based on profit and sharing that by educating the poor and opening clean facilities for the drug addicts etc would crash the market short term. Greed is only interested in quarterly reports if that. More like monthly.

I’m not a fan of Japanese culture but a few things stand out as positives. Their treatment of the elderly and the communal following of rules for the betterment of society.

The current narrative from some in Canada is pretty disgusting. It’s almost like anyone that gets in the way of you living your life to the full should not be allowed in society at all. If that’s the way you want things to be I hope when you get old you sit back and accept whatever ****** behaviour comes your way without complaining.

I have two bugbears that I just can’t let go of. I can’t stand cheats in any form and I can’t stand selfishness and this pandemic has brought those two things right to the fore.

I think this is intolerance, strengthened and repeatedly amplified by feedback loops that exist in North America because of our mash of cultures.

I can't put my finger on when and how it started happening, but I've definitely noticed unnecessary animosity developing within myself for certain groups; I picture myself as extremely hostile to anyone that gets angry if I use the wrong pronoun but I've never actually met someone who got ****** at me using the wrong pronoun.....hell, my hairstylist told me they're trans and I proceeded to say "cool bro....oh ****, did I screw that up?" and they just laughed.

I'm certain this isn't happening to only me (blacks and Asians have been pitted against each other via media as well.)

...probably all for profit right?

The European and Scandinavian styles did not work at all for my family , which is why we are all here. I like it here , I also really like it there , but I'm living HERE.
I adore the cultures, traditions, festivals, music and foods brought here from all over the planet. But leave your politics and racist culture where you left and love what we have here. We do not need to make 'here' just like 'there' . That's why your here

You could fill 10,000 pages with nonsense of how awesome it is , somewhere else, yet here they came.

Grass is always greener on the other side right? I know my buddies that were all planning to go back to Poland really shut the hell up pretty quick once inflation started, and the war started...seems like Poland may not exactly be the best place to go nowadays.

Mind you, with the war eventually passing, there will be a massive building boom in Ukraine where a lot of money will flow from European companies to rebuild the shelled towns and cities. But when will that be? 2-5-10-20 years?

Not trolling at all, used it as an example everyone could understand. If someone is in danger of something, they themselves need to do everything they can to protect themselves... if I were allergic to peanuts, I'd be checking every food package I pick up to make sure I wasn't putting myself at risk. I wouldn't be expecting the govt. To ban all peanuts and peanut products from the country.
I wonder why the packaging says “may not be nut free, etc”

Small minority…should be able to research this stuff themselves. Why do I have to pay more for packaging that doesn’t apply to me.
