To be masked or not to be masked

A lot of people here in GTAM find DownUnder's posts and yours offensive. Being a senior, i take particular offence to them. Just so you know where you stand.I don't think you two do understand enough outside of your own personal bubble.

I see both sides of opinion's.

Took the go train today Downtown, first time since the cov's. Although it was the 5.15am train, everyone was masked and socially distancing. Will report back this afternoon when taking a busier train home.
Some places like public transit should be 100% masked until this thing is over.

Even I find some of my thoughts offensive. Logic without empathy does that and I generally use logic or rationality before engaging empathy.

Pretty much the same boat. I usually consider both sides of a story, which tends to upset people on both sides of the political spectrum because they think I'm for the other side or against their side.

One of my closest friends has extremely rich parents, he told me he never engages in politics (especially in China/Hong Kong/Taiwan topics) because there's no good outcome. Rich people know how to play these games better imo lol

I do it because I'm a **** disturber but he's completely right: my coworkers are anti-vaxxers/maskers, trying to get them to see the other side leads to me getting insulted (you don't like your freedom, government has too much power, masks don't work you dumb ****, etc. etc.); and the massive irony in this is we work for big pharma lol

Same for the other side outside of the STEM graduates I know. From where it stand, it looks more like everyone else is insane outside of the few that can argue both sides without getting emotional....some food for thought @Wingboy

It's disturbing to me that there are going to be a few sick in the head, but fully vaxxed people who know they have the virus, and will knowingly try and infect others. We've seen it with other diseases, this one will not be different. Some of them will seek out unvaccinated groups, where they can do the most damage, in the shortest time. :(

....have you heard of gay trains where they give each other HIV/AIDs?

I read it on Reddit then heard from a gay friend. Nearly threw up after. Maybe someone else will throw up now if they're curious enough to Google this lol

I agree, if someone is immuno compromised or elderly they should get the N95s with the vents and protect themselves. There's no reason the entire population should have to bubblewrap for a small minority of the population that can do something to protect themselves ie. Vaccinate, wear an n95 mask, social distance, sanitize frequently, don't hang around big crowds indoors etc etc.
OK, so their rights and freedoms (which is pretty much the rallying call of the antivax / antimask crowd) are worth less than yours, just because they're old?

This is the first I've ever heard of anything remotely close to what you're suggesting.
Closest would be the dumb@ss antivaxxers having Covid Parties so they can all get infected.

I remember hearing about those….they were looking for natural immunity…didn’t end so great for a few of them. Maybe immunity from life.

Remember the bubble boy from Seinfeld? There's a reason he was in a bubble and not the rest of his family and neighbourhood.

No, and possibly the wrong question.

Depending on one's *******/psychopathic level, they're in the way. You can apply this to both sides. This is very likely the "base" level emotion/reaction we're dealing with.

My attitude towards anti vaxxers was not fully about compliance: the rationality was simply "okay, if we're gonna save as many ppl as possible, put the mask on and get your vaxes, or kill yourself so you don't slow the recovery down and get in my way."

Not hard to twist that the other direction.

Closer might be people who run motorcyclists off the road "to teach them a lesson".

It's very very infrequent, but it's out there.

Comedy tv show. Ya, that's close to reality. Post something useful and stop trolling.
Not trolling at all, used it as an example everyone could understand. If someone is in danger of something, they themselves need to do everything they can to protect themselves... if I were allergic to peanuts, I'd be checking every food package I pick up to make sure I wasn't putting myself at risk. I wouldn't be expecting the govt. To ban all peanuts and peanut products from the country.

From my understanding this is a traditional "right" spectrum thought pattern; let those who need help figure it out themselves, the community (aka. government) should not be forced to help.

I'm putting this out there because we're very ******* left, left to the point where I had to learn wtf right meant so I don't blindly go left till we're "New China"; I'm pretty damn sure a bunch of posters/readers are in the same boat.

Correct. Right thought is “me first, screw the rest as long as I have mine” (A direct quote from an American friend that’s a hard-core Republican).
As for us being very ***** left, here’s a reality check….. Biden, is at best, middle, not left at all. Sanders is left, and is beyond the Canadian left.
The US political climate has moved left to middle, middle to right, right to far, far to extreme.

For example, Scandinavia is socialist, and left. They have some of the highest living standards in the world.
And the right vilifies them as being the worst thing possible on the plant. sigh.
Feel free to disagree.
