To be masked or not to be masked

In a hospital this afternoon in Kitchener. It was like trying to get into Chernobyl.

Well, as a grade 2 teacher I'm torn...I absolutely abhor wearing a mask for 6.5 hours...the only time it comes off is when I'm eating my lunch in my car...and that's usually 20 minutes as I generally have to go back in for duty (which is supervising 2-3 classes while the kids eat for those of you that don't have kids in school)...by the end of the day, my voice is hoarse, my throat is dry, and my nose is full of $%#@ (and yes, I drink lots of water through a straw, and I even have a voice amplifier)...it's hard to teach letter sounds, phonics etc. while wearing a mask...kids who are soft spoken, have an accent or any sort of speech impediment are very difficult to hear and understand...facial expressions are also non-existent and they make up so much of our daily communication...when I get home, I experience phantom mask syndrome (yes, it exists), not to mention the ear aches from the loops (I tried those extender things but I have a very small head and they kept falling off)...I do think masks need to go, but not sure right now is the best time (especially right after a break when a lot of families will be travelling)...I think a lot of people (staff and students alike) will be hesitant to stop wearing them, so it'll be interesting to see how many will continue to do so...what will I do?...I have no idea...🤔

The audio part is understandable. Try understanding a person behind a plexi barrier when they're wearing a mask and have a heavy accent. We may have to take up sign language. Maybe there'll be a keyboard and screen in front of the barrier. In some cases I dip the mask for a second so the other person gets a glimpse of my mug. When put it back in place I have the option of sticking out my tongue at them.

Masking in a restaurant is IMO marginally beneficial unless we find a way to eat through our ears. Masking in a crowded venue will largely die off if not kept mandatory. I see myself masking to protect myself but if there are no regulations I'll go to a more comfortable vented one to protect myself. The others don't care.

I don't see myself being comfortable in restaurants yet. Short of updraft ventilation going through a high temp heat exchanger over every table you breathe what the others breathe. Once you order you're stuck, unlike a store where you can walk out anytime you hear someone cough.

Public transit is almost like a restaurant. You can't leave and you're lucky to be not actually touching someone. If masks are kept mandatory anywhere it should be on buses etc. Dining out is an option. Going to work isn't.

******** with no masks on are already strutting around in stores like COVID has just vanished, and store staff just DGAF enough to do anything about it.
Just saw this. One girl flaunting around the LCBO with no mask and no one said poo to her. Her partner was masked but she wasn’t.

But she was looking for an argument. Was giving everyone in a mask the stink eye. It’s honestly not worth the breath needed to argue.

It’s going to be like this for a while unfortunately. Maybe she’ll be right in the end, maybe she won’t. Right now it’s a gamble and I don’t like the odds.

My wife, who's tired of wearing it, says the trick is to not make eye contact with anyone and people leave them alone.

For me it's just automatic, i only wear it when i go out and...i barely go out.

I’ll wear it until told it’s not required .

The ones strutting around looking for a confrontation have shallow meaningless lives and need feel cutting edge cool.
Girls should just leave their tits out , maybe they’d get a second look

“Maybe after March break, when kids get back,” Ford said for when mask mandates might be lifted. The Sun

A very confusing and controversial topic to say the very least.
I won't be wearing one on a regular basis once the restrictions are lifted.

I will keep one handy (office, glovebox etc) just in case I have to go into places where it looks like a mask would be useful.

I'll forego one where they currently make no sense. Will also keep one handy for where they might.

Pick out a nice one for your funeral then.

I assume that kids still make fun (bully) for just about anything that is a little different. I will happily shed my mask as soon as it's not required but I feel bad for the kids who will be picked on if they choose to wear a mask. I assume that there are parents who are very vocally pro/anti mask and it wouldn't surprise me if the kids follow suit.

If someone did that to me, it would probably induce some coughing, maybe sneezing...

Spent some time with my 2 yr old granddaughter last weekend. She keeps her mask in her backpack and religiously pulls it out for you to put it on her when going anywhere. Never a whimper.
