Tips for knocking down price? Buying a new bike.

Dealership has done nothing wrong. They should not give you the money back. If they give you a store credit then that is something very nice of them to do and you should be thankful.

Ever heard the expression that the customer is always right?

Any successful business owner knows the meaning of that

I once put a deposit down on a used car at a dealer. Before picking the car up I tracked down the previous owner and he told me not to buy the car.

I was able to cancel the transaction because, for cars anyways, you have 30 days post delivery to return it if you wish (at a dealer).

Nothing like that for bikes?

Id call your credit card and get them involved. They can be helpful.

No such thing as a 30 day post delivery return policy. In fact, you can't cancel a contract unless the dealer misrepresented the vehicle.

Probably what.

Got slung onto their game, that's for sure. Called yesterday to get in touch with the GM only to get told call later, then "oh he has a day off"

Calling again today

That's a bummer. Maybe they're testing your mettle? Speaking of mettle did you know the Burgman 650 has a rubber band in the transmission?

I have heard that some people get their fax # and use their computers to keep faxing them a message such as " When can I come pickup my refund?" They do it in large fonts so anyone walking by can clearly see it.

Other people get results in these matters by constantly posting to the companies social media sites.
Just saying what other people do.

Or protest in front of their store naked

So any news? Been over a week, more than enough time to sort this out.

Is Kahuna gonna become the new SON? Perhaps do it like envy rides used to and call us "haterz" lol But atleast they acknowledged the problems...

No kidding a business desperate for $500 is pretty sad and very douchey for sure. About the protest in front of the store it can work but be careful what signage you go with.

I bought a brand new house years ago and had issues with it and they give me the run around so I made up a sign saying "THEY GOT MY CASH I GOT THEIR TRASH" and paced in front of the sales office and within hours got the call and all the necessary repairs done promptly along with some freebees shower door and kitchen backsplash to keep me quiet LOL.

You as a consumer have a lot of protection in case the dealer decides to screw you over. However if you decided to sign a purchase agreement and made no note of any conditions, that vehicle now belongs to you. You can't just cancel and ask for your deposit back whenever you feel like it.
Actually, they can take you to court and force you to carry on with the deal if they wanted to.

Think of the time the salesman spent with you, the energy the dealership went through to prep/certify the bike for you. And you think you can cancel without being charged a penny? Lol

Damn that's some cheap insurance, are you bush league or veteran?

Seriously? I insure two bikes for about 800$ a year (combined - not each).

This has been an interesting read, I'll pop back in a few days to see how it ends

Lol

We are talking about a kid that didn't know any better... if it was a middle aged dummy that made this mistake then fine he deserves the consequences .... He bought a brand new bike so there was no certification and as for the prep I am sure they weren't prepping it cause he wasn't picking up said bike any time soon in this damn weather.Oh and the salesman ya I guess he probably spent a whole hour with the kid instead of scratching his arse and he and the dealership deserves $500 for their hard work.

If anything I hope this young man MAYBE learned a valuable lesson with impulse buys.

While I would love to jump on the Kahuna-bashing bandwagon, I think we should remain objective about the scenario:

OP signed a contract, giving a $500 deposit as confirmation of his intent to purchase the motorcycle. Somewhere down the line, OP decides he can get a better deal... so now he wants his deposit back. The dealership is not in any way obligated to do so, as they had an agreement. OP can take delivery of the bike and consign it back through the dealer should he want to recoup his money, but even that won't really be beneficial to him.

In other words.. customer pays me a deposit, I start to make their product, they walk in later and change their mind and demand their money back. Doesn't work that way. Technically, I should sue them for the balance of the amount whether they now want it or not.. but it would probably be much easier for me to keep the deposit and re-sell it to someone else...

I stopped reading here. Absolute rubbish.

He made a mistake (no matter his age/income). Unfortunately like the rest of us, he might have to learn the hard way. Think about how many life's lessons you had to learn at a young age.

Ya, a little disappointed at the dealer bashing as it suggests a power structure that doesn't actually exist.

It's only $500 so I guess the lesson could have been more costly. Yes you are absolutely correct but I know if I was the salesmen or the dealership I would have handled it much differently... is $500 really worth all the negative banter coming out of this thread. Like I stated earlier in this thread I went there this winter to pick up a friends vfr 1200 and got there early and while browsing I was considering trading in my bike for a new z1000 this spring. If and when I do it will definitely not be at KAHUNA due to this situation.EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE RIGHTFULLY EXERCISING THEIR RIGHTS.

Age/experience has very little to do with it. If you make a commitment, follow through. Don't back out and act like you're entitled to anything.
