Tips for knocking down price? Buying a new bike.

It's unfortunate that the situation at hand involves a dealer that has affiliation with this website, which is one of the main reasons why I was withholding the name of this dealer.

It is Kahuna Powersports. Apparently the salesman has a record of negative feedback?

Oh COME ON!!!

OP, Given Kahuna's reputation, I wouldn't think they are going to give you back the money. Try for an instore credit (even if its towards service). It's a long shot with them.

I sincerely doubt they will sue...

For sure not. It would cost more in lawyer fees than the $500,

I was contacted by the salesman from this morning and there was a discussion that occurred between my salesman and the GM. While the GM is unable to finalize the refund at the moment due to moving bikes around, the chances of me getting a refund are apparently 99.9%

Hopefully this is not to make me stop calling and that I will get a refund back. I will be calling again on Monday to follow up.

$500 is that hard for them to return asap
are they moving bikes into the trailers to return to the manufacturers before they put an out of business sign on the door

I'm going to be "that guy" here (No I do not work for Suzuki lol) and would recommend Suzuki Of Newmarket to a SMART buyer. Reasons why?
1. IF you do your research on a bike, you can get a great deal through them but I would not finance with them, instead go with a bank but Im sure that's with any dealer.
2. Service, despite all the hate (and yeah, people defiantly have their reasons)I've had nothing but pleasant service there and at a fair price.
3. Parts, I order most of my goodies online but the odd time drop in to order a few things (air filter, clutch etc.) and it gets shipped within the next few days and they've always called to let me know.

I'm going to be that guy. The only thing worse than dealing with kahuna is dealing with Newmarket. Stay away from both.

I speak from experience having dealt with SON and Kahuna. Not just for accessories but also big ticket items. (Absolutely no connection with either except as a customer)

The difference between the two is like chalk and cheese.

Son, Can not say anything good about them. They are utterly disgusting. Have no business etiquette what-so-ever.

Kahuna is vastly different. Never a problem. Always treated me with respect.

We all have different opinions about everything. I look after #1, Me. If a store treats me well. I am a happy customer, Kahuna have done just that for me.

Good luck to the OP.

Isn't the general managers job to manage all the slimebag minion salesmen and or other employees to physically put them in the trailers or whatever to move them.I guess his fingers are too busy to actually sign a refund cheque. Unbelievable of a business to withhold this kids $500 do they need the money that bad and if they do they shouldn't be in business. Can't stand any salesman motivated by a commission. Actually dread when its time to return my companies leased vehicles to have to deal with salesmen schleps trying to get their greasy hands in my pockets.

I was picking up a friends vfr 1200 there mid winter with a trailer and was thinking of buying a bike from this so called stealership. The famous words out of any auto or motorcycle salesman "give me a deposit to hold the vehicle" that probably isn't even physiically there and another good one "how much can you afford monthly" never mind what the vehicle is actually worth monthly.

Kahuna give the kid back his hard earned money and be done with all the negative feedback.Regardless of what is done at this point they have lost this potential customer

Some of us are pretty good, but it's pretty much a crap shoot.

Just my opinion :), I have no doubt the salesman I bought the bike from would be the same salesman that would sell a litre bike to a beginner rider.

Even if I don't get refund im more interested in making sure that the contract is cancelled indefinitely with nothing to do with me.

I think it'll be easier to cancel and such since they gave me the wrong bike on the contract to begin with anyway lol

I'm 100% sure kahuna will be happy to keep your deposit and sell the bike to someone else. Don't worry about that!

They said I should be expecting a call tomorrow but I get the feeling I should just call them.

If I can't get the deposit back should I try to push for in store credit like since people suggested?

Yes it's worth a shot. But just remember that they don't owe you anything really.

As I mentioned a few posts back, there is nothing wrong with buying a new bike. It's not as cost effective but heck, every bike once had it's first owner!

Make up your own mind with what you are comfortable with. Most people in this thread giving advice are seasoned owners on their 2,3,4,5+ bike purchase and are ready for the nuances that come along with buying a use bike. You may not be ready for that. Just my $0.02

Good luck!

OP remember the old saying you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar?? Well you had a great bargaining chip in your hand, (which has now likely been lost).

That was to be polite and courteous to the dealership and ask to speak with the GM. then when you had his attention ask for an in store credit for the amount of your deposit. Then state you are member here and you wouldn't want to see the dealership get any bad press over this unfortunate turn of events.

Now having said that you, (full credit for doing so), have admitted the dealership has really done nothing wrong in this transaction. They took the deposit in good faith and you at the time in good faith signed a contract which stated the deposit was non refundable.

The ideal outcome is the dealership works with you on this.

Now that you have named the dealership the GM has two options.

1. give your deposit back or a credit for use in store with them, (which you will no doubt post and "some" will be happy to say they are a good place to deal with.

2. Tell you he is not interested in your situation and as the contract states the deposit is the dealerships to keep and that is what they are going to do.

If they choose option 1. there will be some who say good for them but I am never going to buy from them regardless.

If they choose option 2 then there will be many who will say they are crappy and they will never shop there, (mainly those who have already said so in this thread).

Reality is he is not going to win those people back by giving your deposit back. This thread will go on for a few more days and then GTAM will move on to other shiny things to look at..lol There will be "some" who may use the dealerships name in the search feature and find the thread at a later date. But for the most part it will be gone and forgotten. By you having already named the dealership the damage is DONE, it can't be undone even if they return the deposit. So he can say well I have nothing to lose by keeping it at this point and $500 to gain. I ma not going to regain the loss of reputation by returning it.

I think you would have faired better had you followed your initial instinct and not named the dealership, UNTIL you were sure you were out the $500. But even then by your own admission they did nothing wrong.

Good call. I wonder if there are any stats on peeps flaking on deposits industry wide? I wonder if that factors into dealer response?

Welp, aint that the sour truth.

I've already prepared myself to expect not to gain anything, but hope this thread will provide insight on the decisions that come before thought.

While I understand that perhaps the dealership is not in the wrong, I wish they would stop slinging me around with sweet nothings and just end it.

I just want my contact cancelled and have nothing to do with it.

If I get a refund or get to push it for in store credit, cool.

I disagree, this thread is now at almost 4,000 views. It will be at 10,000 in no time.

The dealership has EVERYTHING to gain by refunding his money. A lot of people don't post on here, but a lot read.

Its kind of silly to pay thousands of dollars per year in advertising and then when having an opportunity for FREE advertising to sit back and do nothing.

Odds are Kahuna's watching this thread. If you're prepared to get nothing you might not be disappointed, if you know what I mean. I gotta hand it to you tho, the honesty is refreshing. Good luck:)

+1 I was thinking the same thing Paul.

Dealership has done nothing wrong. They should not give you the money back. If they give you a store credit then that is something very nice of them to do and you should be thankful.
