The "Official" Watch Thread and all Things Horological

Hate to drag down the thread with another budget watch, but I stopped at the Citizen store today in Milton, per @crankcall 's recommendation, and couldn't resist a Fugu at a very fair price:

Not much selection of automatics in the store, but they beat the best online price I could find by almost $100 when you factor shipping, so I did okay. The jeweller in the outlet mall seems to have closed, and the only other watch shop just had junk costume watches, Armani, Michael Kors, Diesel and the like.

Just need to figure out some strap options now, as silicone isn't my favourite. Not many custom options with curved end links, but I'm thinking maybe a shark mesh bracelet might work. Suggestions welcome...
I like that.

What about something inbetween chunky and the shark mesh? Vintage Beads of Rice Bracelet | StrapsCo

Funny you should say that, just ordered that one, an H-link shark mesh and hybrid beads of rice bracelet from there, taking advantage of the buy 2 get 1 free. Happy to keep all three, but will return any that don't work. Have been pretty satisfied with StrapsCo in the past. Not as nice as Strapcode, but way cheaper...

The jewelry store in that mall just disappeared about two weeks ago, they have another store in Vaughn mills mall , all the inventory went there .

I really like that red bezel watch ! I’ve been eyeing a few versions in various brands . I’m starting to think about thinning the herd and buying some stuff I might wear more , but I thought about that when I bought the stuff I have LOL

A red bezel Tudor is on my list , but the black bay has jumped $1000 in two yrs .

Well I feel better knowing that .

Watch Time magazine had an interesting editorial this month about accessability to premium brands , how the retailers are just making things worse by selling a 'special watch' to a short list of clients. Of course every dealer will have that list of whales, that make the salemans commission jump. They say yes to everything thats offered , and put it into the Grey market almost immediately , pushing prices up.
A Rolex Submariner no date with an MSRP of about 10,500 will sell within days at 15-17K . Who wouldnt pick up 5K for posting it on line. Even better if you score a Daytona and put 15K in your pocket.
The market itself is a mess on mid level luxury brands.

In general the entire line-up of the Swiss Holy Trinity does very little for me. Including that Patek. Good luck to the seller at ~3X retail just because it is discontinued.

Even if there was a price is no consideration epic Lotto Max win in my future...just don't like them.

What's the over/under on finding a bracelet or links for a Seiko SNP017? I think I may be SOL.

Post up a pic of the bracelet, it might trigger someone's memory.

I know I have a pile of links for my watches (when I sized them) and I have done a very poor job of cataloguing them. Even have some for watches long since sold. Someone somewhere has some, they may not remember....

Agreed. I appreciate the master craftmanship and beautiful finishing but there are a lot of other options right now that are less likely to get your wrists chopped off and a big discount from independent watch makers.

ALS is the only big name I'd pay for because their pieces are truly unique

This is it. The old Japanese adage "same, but not same-same" comes to mind with Seiko bracelets. Same model but different version may not be compatible.

I’d start with a guy that owns Watch’s to Buy in London Ont . Then DarLor in Niagara on the lake . They both seem to have been around a long time and have deep parts bins , one may help or suggest where better to look .

The good: I found someone in Boulder with links. The bad: raw stainless only. Now I'm going to need to find someone that does PVD. I'll contact buddy in St. Davids to see what can do for me. This has become a mission, but I like the watch.
